    That Toth tool with the squeezer is the best method in my opinion. I’ve used rivet jigs and pneumatic squeezers but I always go back to the Toth tool squeezer. It gives me more control. And as you have shown, it’s quite easy to correct a lopsided rivet head.

    Word of advice when doing your through rivets and forming the tail, try and avoid hitting the center and try and form a dome shape with no flat to the face. The more you form a flat face the thinner the edges will get, may make a pretty rivet but it will form a dome shell because the rivet wont swell properly leading to a weak rivet job

  • @AKS-74U
    @AKS-74U Před 2 měsíci

    Are you supposed to countersink the receiver into the rivet holes before putting the rivets in? Or does installing the rivets sink the receiver into the dimpled trunnion holes?

    • @VEightMerc124
      @VEightMerc124 Před 2 měsíci

      Technically you should not countersink. The point of those style rivets is the sheet metal deforms down with the rivet into the dimple and increase bonding strength. If the sheet metal is straight it is going to cause a shearing action at the neck of the rivet.

    • @AKS-74U

      @@VEightMerc124 are all 6 rivets like that or just the rear two?

    • @VEightMerc124
      @VEightMerc124 Před 2 měsíci

      @@AKS-74U depends on what you are making. Some over the years had rear swell necks. Others just as the front in the magwell area. And some rpks have it in the front too as a long rivet. So best to research first and rivet kits are usually complete

    In a combat rifle it isn't a sniping weapon, however the HK is remarkably accurate. Mine has the polygonal barrel. I have never seen it get dirty. I like the mushy trigger. On rapid movement, I don't want a light trigger. However I like it to break cleanly when it gets done traveling around ! That is easy to modify by anyone at home. The FN Gas operating is fine and tunable, but has a lot more parts to clean. The HK has only 2 main operating parts. They either work or they don't. Replacing the bolt and any part in the action takes a few seconds. And parts are inexpensive and easy to get. They made MILLIONS of HK's. The HK is also easier and faster to strip clear down to all moving parts to replace, fix or modify and has many more spare parts that are cheap and easy to buy. The entire trigger group is interchangeable with several of the full auto, and semi auto guns, and is simply made out of stamped steel. Easier for home repairs, very easy to do your own trigger job. Almost any of the similar models to the 91 can interchange parts. It does have a bit more recoil. I can't tell the difference in a fire fight! It also has much better iron site with the rotating rear drum sight. The HK does throw brass!! No one is going to flank you on the right side ;-) That brass can go 15 feet. It won't pile up in your fox hole. We simply extend the ejection port and glue in a small rubber bumper. It won't dent brass that way and with your dremel tool you can modify it to toss brass from 1 foot away to 20 feet away anywhere from the 2 oclock position to the 5 oclock position. I have reloaded dented brass several times in a row, with no safety or reliability issues. I don't recommend it, but have done it thousands of times during the 10,000 rounds I have put through the model 91's. You can easily put in the machine gun model recoil buffer and significantly reduce felt recoil. You can put on larger hand guards and larger bolt latches and a better magazine release on the side button. And we put a tab in our magazines to hold the bolt open on the last round. You can insert a magazine in the HK with the bolt open or closed, or even with a round in the barrel, it doesn't care. The flash hider on the original is fine but all the other brands needs to be replaced. The FN is a fine rifle. Easy to carry. The HK is simply a much tougher gun and can work in dirt and freezing mud that would stop the FN even with it's tunable gas ports. The HK will probably last forever, or longer if you remember to clean it, or even if you don't. And it makes a decent boat paddle.

    I had the opportunity to use both rifles during my duty in army. The G3 is a toy, easy to loose the target - specially for inexperienced shooters and gets VERY hot VERY fast. The FN FAL is simple a COMBAT rifle.....the only minus is the long (very long) barrel....

  • @terrydavis5141
    @terrydavis5141 Před 4 měsíci

    I have run both extensively. The FAL is a fine piece of ordinance as is the 91 - G3. The roller delay actions require more on the tuning and, as any roller delay system, if you reload - you can forget it on these. Roller delay actions destroy the brass. The recoil impulse is much more violent whether it is felt or not.
