Mine will Not Work!!!!!! Does Not Record wtf???????
sensor = tape heads
I need to know how to remove the tape when it is stuck and won't pop up to be pulled out
12:20 so you have to manually do every frame on the negative? no automatic scan mode?
Yes. You must slide in every one then hit the scan button
The exposure with the zoomed out was probably affected by the large area of white in each frame from the socket holes.
Yes. I thought that as well
Yeah no one ever did that , we used tape cleaners ( a VHS tape that you ran for x second to clean the heads )
Thanks for watching
@@TheMediaNerdMTNP , with the price of them back then , no one would dare open it 😉
Hi. Great explanation. Can I ask, is the quality from 8mm digital tapes as good when they are transferred to the PC?
It depends on your capture settings
Good points, but, cleaning, oil, and a little google research go a long way. This also isnt brain surgery. I would say, get in there and learn, just start with expendable film first.
Thanks for the comment
There is another video on CZcams that compared this same issue on the Wolverine, a couple of years ago. The concensus was the same as yours. The difference is negligible.
I agree
Wait, is it ok to scan them sideways like that? Or do you have to correct the orientation?
It’s ok to scan them in any direction as far as I know. You can correct the orientation on your computer easily
I'm not that smart. I'm on a PC. I have micro cassettes and the recorder. But the confusion is 1. Do I need master avcap? 2. Do I also need Audacity? What are the basic steps for a pc user? I cannot find a good video anywhere for my learning style. Like a bullet point for a pc lol sorry! Why do I need a DVD maker? I don't want to make a dvd. I want to make digital audio files from my vintage micro cassettes. Thank you for any help you can offer! This is the recorder I have to use: ge model no. 3-5377a
Tengo el error c 31 22 y no sé cómo quitar la goma de la cinta que causa el error 😢
2:05 there are significant differences between the scans. The Kodak seemed to have a slight edge enhancement present but this might have simply been due to the increased noise from the high resolution punishing the compression algorithm (Either at scan time or from CZcams). The Wolverine did not present as much noise but at the cost of some detail.
It worked! THANK YOU!
I had to mute the audio, very hard to watch this with those non-funny non-sense noises, very distracting.
I fail to see why 8mm is bad. Just keep any projector in good condition, test it before you run a film. Get it serviced before hand if need be.
Most people don’t do that and finding a person to service a project is rare.
Terrific Video - thank you. As an FYI - I ended up buying the USB 2.0 Video Grabber (I have Windows 11). That USB audio/video was less than $20 via Amazon (vs. the $50 for the recommended I-O Data USB ) - they worked without issue (No separate driver download - Windows supported them).
Awesome! Thank you for your nice comment and watching! Please help support the channel by subscribing if you haven’t already.
Total neophyte here, taking this on as a newly retired guy so looking over the USB 2.0 Video Grabber listing on Amazon is daunting, perhaps you can share the one you used so I know it will work with my new Samsung Laptop with Windows 11 and no CD? Thank you
Hello Mark … if I sent you an audio cassette would you transfer and provide the transferred audio to me and would I be able to upload to CZcams to share with others? Cost?
Please go to my website which is in the channel description to contact me to discuss
Great video. I can't get past the error message "please connect the power supply" when trying to record. PS is connected of course. Other times it outputs "please recheck film's place" on the same moment. The unit "preview" works fine. It is just when it tries to record.
Sounds like a software issue. Return it.
@@TheMediaNerdMT thank you. I will call Wolverine tomorrow, and if that doesn’t do it, I’ll return it.
I like Kodak reels much better. Same price. I like the functionality much better. I have a video on it which you should check out.
i’ve got a canon 814xl and want to know what i’d need to be able to film on it and get it over to my pc afterwards… any advice?
You are going to have to do a google search to see who develops film unless you can get a developing kit off of amazon. Once that you have it developed, you can use a transfer machine like the Kodak Reels. I do like the Kodak Reels over the other 8mm transfer machines. However, if you are shooting super8 with sound, you won't be able to use the Kodak Reels. You can check out my video on the Kodak Reels to see what you think. Best of luck and keep me posted! @PrinceTobiYT good luck
In 1986 I had a Panasonic VCR that could record anything !! Macrovision or not. I could copy any movie I wanted to !! Of course back then VCRS still cost nearly $ 400 dollars :)
That sounds like it was a great VCR!
This is a great channel !!

Great video !! Self threading machines I have never liked
Thank you for watching. Self threading machines are tricky!
@@TheMediaNerdMT Yes they tend to chew the film up. Sometimes you can't remove the film from the machine with out breaking it. If it is a magnetic sound film they are very tricky to splice. You can't cover the stripe with tape
I do know how to load the film correctly. I have been doing it since 1976 :)
In the late 70s early 80s, I was the kid that always volunteered to run the projector in elementary school. I loved loading the film. I think my career choice was planned way back then!!!
@@TheMediaNerdMT Me too !!! I just turned 60 years old and I have a massive amount of movie projectors and films !! 16mm sound and silent, super 8mm sound and silent and standard 8mm sound and silent
That's cool. I have a few 8mm projectors along with a ton of old video cameras (8mm and vhs). When people bring me there media to transfer, they sometimes give me there old cameras instead of throwing them away. I really don't have any idea what to do with the stuff, I just put it all in storage. I am not a packrat but I hate to throw that stuff away for some reason. Good talking with you!
I understand it is your business to convert film but you are leaving out the experience of viewing as people did in the 1950’s etc and watching reels with friends and family. It’s the cool, history factor that makes it fun and amazing to those who never experienced it I collect Bolex and other cameras and projectors and with a bit of know how from CZcams, this is a fun and unique experience in this digital age
I do remember the days my father would pull out the slide projector and screen to view photos. He never shot on 8mm film. It was a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, the projectors being sold on eBay, thrift stores and garage sales are not refurbished. They are sold as is and for some reason, people just think they will work just fine and then the family film gets destroyed. It's sad and I have heard of this from time and time again over the past 20+ years.
Hi. How do you start to scan if you've just finished the whole film roll?
Sorry. I don’t understand your question
Great help thanks. I may be doing something wrong, but the audio track is not in sink with the video. Any help?
Check your audio sample rate setting. The standard audio sample rate 44.1kHz. 48 khz is also a standard rate. That may be the issue.
Thanks. Will try that later
Have changed it from 48 khz to 44.1. I thought it had worked but no syncing. Could it be a problem on vhs or some other setting? Thanks for all the help
@@samp5266 What digitizer are you using? The digitizer that is going between your VCR and your computer.
DIGITNOW! Video Capture Card ?? Is it this?
1. Don't touch the heads with fingers the oil will damage them 2. Don't touch the heads with a cue tip the fibres will tangle on the heads leading to problems also. 3.don't squirt a duster since the dust will get inside the drum heads. With patience pick up the dust with a cue tip and 99.9% iso propyl alcohol. Use a folded piece of paper to clean the head drum - plenty videos showing this. Cleaning a vcr requires patience and there's no simple way to do it properly without damaging it.
Everyone has there own way. Thanks for your comments.
This is very helpful. my case is slightly different as the Tape ripped in the middle rather than slipped off. I assume I can use the plastic tape to fix this, but which side would i apply the tape to, the top or bottom? thanks!
Both sides. I have a video showing how to splice.
Is there an Alternative to the swabs because I don’t really feel like spending $30 on a pack for only one or two of them thanks
You could carefully try and use QTips. The fibers of the QTips could get caught on the head. So you have to be very cautious or you’ll ruin the head. If I were you, I’d just get the swabs.
Great trick! I do video transfers and normally I take the tape apart to fix them but this saves me a lot of time! 👏
Great! I’m happy to hear that my video helped you!
You won't get an Oscar thanks to the extra sound effects and background music.
Thanks. Your opinion means soooo much to me. I’d be lost without you.
I just bought that exact model and came in today. wooohooo! Do you which cables I need to transfer videos from camcorder to 2020 Macbook Pro with USB C port?
I would use a firewire cable. since firewire cables are old school now-a-days, you may need an adapter for the c port.
@@TheMediaNerdMT thanks I got a FireWire to usb a to usb c adapter. It didn’t support usb a I think.
Definitely jumping on this instead of overpaying for half a$$ overpriced scans from a shop. Thank you for the detailed review.
Glad to help
Out of the box, my new Wolverine captured 8mm film very blurry. Any suggestions about the "fixed" focus.
Sorry to hear that. There wasn't protective plastic that you might have missed unpackaging? Did you try multiple reels? Did you do a factory reset? If it doesn't work, send it back for a new one.
My vhs came out the player with the tape sticking out of the case a little bit. I got it back in by opening the lid of the case and using the edge of my finger to slip the tape back in, but I’m paranoid if me touching it like that has damaged it
On the side of the VHS housing is a little button close to the lid on the side. You press that in to release the lid. On the bottom of the tape there is a hole in the back middle. Use a pen to press the little flap down which releases the gears to the spools. You can then manually wind your tape back safely. To answer your question about damage, I doubt it. Tapes are tough, you may get a little static from the part that got creased or some kind of blur from maybe getting finger oil on it but you should be ok.
I've been currently transferring hi8 tapes and theres atleast 3 tapes so far that needs to be repaired.. Will I lose footage by doing this method? I really dont want to risk messing up my tape further more or destroying the camcorder I just bought. These tapes are really special to me and I want it transferred. Please help 😭
And I've transferred 6 of my hi8 tapes so far so I know it's not the camcorder
you will loose a little bit of footage when you do the splice. Just make sure to make the splice tape as thin as possible so it goes through the machine properly.
@@TheMediaNerdMT I might just have the few tapes I weren't able to get working from your website. Is it additional cost if I want my tapes transferred on a flash drive rather than having it spliced?
@@itsollieyx3 Please go to my website where my phone number and email contact info is and I will be able to discuss your project. www.coloradospringsvideo.com

VHS Is No Longer in This Product Their Old! They Don't Make Those Anymore! All Done VHS! Delete The Video.📼
With a little over 45 thousand views since March of 2023, you really don't know what you are talking about. Go troll another channel.
I saw a video showing to NOT zoom with the Wolverine and do the crop later in post editing. This makes a huge difference. The video with the digital zoom of the converter is riddled with compression artifacts. The video with no zoom is virtually artifact free.
I did a zoom comparison using the Kodak reels which will come out next week. Subscribe so you can check it out. I will do a zoom comparison with the Wolverine to see how that does. Thanks for your comment and watching!
Why is the wolverine side so jumpy in comparison the Kodak ?
I think the kodak is built better.
The colors are absolutely unstable and sometimes unreal from one scene to another. After countless tests I gave up and returned to my Wolverine pro, which has stable colors throughout the whole film. With reduced tint, it improved but the effect still remains. -For instance a gray background of a title scene becomes red when it`s after a previous scene with a nature take or other. I `m hoping, that Kodak cares about this and provides an update of the firmware (I have 2.0 American version). With this issue being solved, I like the features of the Kodak Reels and I would take it back from the junk room.
Thanks for your comment. I have not seen any color shift using the Kodak.
Thanks for the answer! and I apologize for my comment. I have made another attempt with the following settings: Exposure:-0.5, Sharpness: -1.5, Tint: -1.5. The colors are much more realistic. Redshift after extreme green scenes no longer exists. Kodak Reels comes back to service, with it`s nice stable scanning!
I'm glad it is working out for you.
Great video. You helped me save a 45 year old, 3 hour long VHS video of my family's birthday's christenings, parties and other occasions which included many relatives that have since passed. Many, many thanks. 😃👍
Wonderful! Thank you!!!
Why did they include a USB cord with this viewer? Can you plug into computer to view the slides with this cord???
The USB is for an alternate power source. You can plug it into your computer for power or if you have a USB wall adapter, you can plug it in that way for power.
The link for the RCA cables does not look like the one you use in the video. Am I seeing this incorrectly?
Sorry. I fixed it. Here is the correct cable link. amzn.to/4ew5hK0
"white gloves" ...are you alright man, like really!
white gloves are good when handling photos and film so finger oils don't get on it.
What if I try to replace the damaged reels with reels that don't have any damaged areas while still with the same material on both of them?
I don't understand you question
Is it wrong for anyone to sell used VHS tapes that had reel splicing from this certain method?
I wouldn't sell a tape that was damaged and repaired. Why would you want to do that anyway?
@@TheMediaNerdMT I'm only checking in.
Curious: what process do you use when you're transferring video for a customer?
I use my Mac and Final Cut Pro 7. The video is captured using Firewire. Once it is captured, it is a .mov file which is extremely large. I then put it through wondershare converter to make it a mp4 file. It reduces the size significantly while maintaining a good image.
@@TheMediaNerdMT Thanks!
