The Northwest 747 was a really early bird. Number 27 made in 1969. The nose section is now in the Smithsonian. So cool.
@@ItsAlwaysRusty thanks for the info 😀
Departed for Vancouver..YVR...June 01/78...CP AIR stretch DC8....Times have changed, but Prestwick Airport.. EGPK remains...The more the things change...the more they stay the same....Thankfully. Used to watch Gulf Air do touch and go's on that very air strip.
Wonderful ! Thank you for this Time Machine
Another great video of some of the older planes that used to fly but never see now, but apart from that I did enjoy this video greatly appreciated.
It's so mad, as that 1-11 (G-ATPK), is the same aircraft that I flew on back in 89, from Manchester to Monastir. It was operated through Dan-air then...but still...amazing to see it in the 60s here.
0:45 Britannia airlines then became Thomsonfly and air 2000 became first choice and they merged together to become Thomson And now tui is now the new plane operated after taking over Thomson franchise And as for first choice that airliner is gone
Rare Peach Air L-1011 in the background
It’s not 1986 .as Caledonian Tristars did not enter service until 1988 after the merger of British Airways and British Caledonian
Those little BAC 111s were incredibly noisy inside, they were usually the Ringway to Heathrow shuttle to catch a connecting flight.😬
Loved the sound of a one eleven engine start😀
Noisy, smokey Speys from the BAC-111s and F28. Beautiful!
British Airways, BEA.❤
Great Airport even today. I used to work for Northwest Airlines, they used to fuel up parked overnight B 747 to stop the wind from causing damage to a/c .
My memories of Prestwick is up in the viewing lounge watching the planes with my Dad and young brothers . I remember the German Starfighters parked up . Oh please bring them days back to me
I remember the starfighters f104s great days😀
@@johnstewart5363 absolutely yes .. love your channel you got new sub thanks

Well done Jhon I was here on this day mate
It was a fantastic time at pik😀
I was here that day
Remember when Canada was a proud nation. Ruined by the traitor Trudeau. Canada will not recover for these treasonus cun.ts.
Great stuff Jhon
Love the three holers. Sure miss them.
Great to see the old pik airport I started there in 1976 and was with air canada cargo from 1978 until 1996 when we moved to Glasgow Met some great people and had some memorable times
We loved prestwick airport of old! I’ve got an inside the airport clip we filmed with an air Canada DC8! You might be on it😀

Heh, it's nice to see that one mound of dirt has been used for planespotting since the mid 80s!
It’s been a great place for watching planes for years😀
Kind of crazy to see the Air Canada jumbo at Glasgow when they now don't even fly there anymore. I recall seeing in one of these videos a Manchester to Ottawa flight on a Wardair 747 which would now be impossible. I guess those really were the effects of high amounts of immigration to Canada from the UK.
I flew air Canada from Glasgow on 747 C-FTOB great plane😀
@@johnstewart5363 Glad you enjoyed it! Did you go on vacation to Canada?

@@johnstewart5363 Glad you enjoyed it! Did you go around Ontario or just stayed around Toronto?

Glasgow good old days excellent fun Jhon
Loved it too😀
So many airlines that were well known at the time that are no longer in existence. Its also amazing how liveries change over time as well. Fantastic video thanks :)
Fantastic video! When was this filmed?
Think about 1990s🤔
@johnstewart5363 yes looks like it. I believe your DC-10 was wearing the battleship livery which was introduced in 1993, so had to be after then. Thanks again for the video! Great blast from the past
Thanks for your information! What was the battleship livery?
It’s ok got it from google! Yes that was the livery! Didn’t know that’s what it was called😀
Jeebus Freddie Lakers DC-10's were steered by throttle & rudder Look how nose happy it is
Nostalgia rush to see the old firms like Caledonian and Britannia Thank you for posting this 👍
Love the horizontal stabilizer movement on the Air Canada L 1011.✈
My Mother was a air traffic controller there in the 60s
Didn’t know that had US commuter lines in Europe. Trans World Express. Foreign carrier are prohibited from providing domestic service in the US, assumed Europe would have the same rules regarding US carriers in Europe.
They used to make the jetstream at prestwick, it was painted in the colours of the airline before delivery 😀
Cracking video, my Dad would have been 20 yo at the time, living in the Biggar area. He loved aviation and passed it on to me when I was a wee lad, he passed away 3 years ago at 81.
Flew wardair once going to Toronto.
Me too! 747 though and not the DC10 😀
I worked there for BA in 1970 and we had a daily Super VC10 service to JFK with feeder services with either a Viscount or Herald from both EDI and BFS. Had several European diversions when weather there precluded landings of trans Atlantic flights. Including Pan Am, TWA and Northwest etc. Prestwick always remained open protected from storms by the Aisle of Arran.
BCAL
Remember when it was NW Orient
Didn’t get any footage of that back then😕
Good old air2000
We used to call them air two bob😀
@@johnstewart5363 got us cheap flights to Toronto, then they went belly up & became Canada 3000.
I remember the UASAF desk being right at the end of the check in desks.
I remember that too! Great days😀
@@johnstewart5363 do you remember the bank of black & white tvs that you had to pay to watch? They were at the bottom of the stairs just before international arrivals.
Used to love going to preswick in the 70s & 80s picking up family who flew in from Toronto on holiday or us going on holiday to see them. I remember flying laker going to Toronto & the plane had a defect & we were bused to the hotel at Glasgow airport for the night.
Watching that Northwest DC-10 land, pretty sure I never saw #2 engine deploy TR.
I remember laker as a child and the DC 10 and then the drop of his Airline on the news I remember all His DC10s parked together for Sale
Air Canada did not fly out of Glasgow till may1990
Flew AirUK and British Midland many times from London to Edinburgh during this period, but never knew Loganair once flew 146s and BAC 1-11's. Anyone remember what routes they were used on?
All those are classic beauties, but My favourite is the BAC 1-11. Fond memories of the Gulfstream 1 as well.
Plenty of BAC111 action one of my favorite vintage jets Worked on the ramp at Pittsburgh for Allegheny /USair in the 80s my ears still ring from those Rolls Royce Spey's
no sound why bother
Your right! I’ll take it down
Should I take the old cone film with no sound down too?
Have I to take it down! Still waiting for your answer
Great video don't take it down versatile Prestwick airport at its best thank you

LN-BWG; an interesting-albeit temporary-addition to Ryanair's fleet, too!
Wow that’d be great to have seen😀
@@johnstewart5363I agree! It was briefly used by Ryanair in 1988 to fill in for the upcoming ATR 42s. Unfortunately, its presence on YT is scant; there's only one video of it in Ryanair c/s there.
Hello John, Would you allow me to use some seconds of footage from your video at: czcams.com/video/Ku2CO7IPtzE/video.html to add to a short trailer I am making for a book I wrote about Prestwick Airport some years ago for my CZcams Channel?
