Shogun 2024 Miniseries Reaction
2024 is looking like it could be a great year for samurai fans with the upcoming Shogun mini series. FX's page confirms that this is indeed a remake of the 1980's Shogun. Which itself was based on James Clavell's best selling book, also named Shogun.
The book, and show, will be centered on the fictional shipwrecked English trader, John Blackthorne. Which mimics the real life of William Adams.
Our main character will eventually come across the character Lord Yoshii Toranaga, played by Hiroyuki Sanada, and has information that can be used against a shared enemy. The jesuits.

The Asano Brigade is a piece of history that often goes ignored. After the Bolshevik Revolution the White Russians fled Russia. Many of them would relocate in Manchuria, later renamed Manchukuo. I think that the Imjin War & the later Second Sino-Japanese War are similar for they both show Japanese military prowess, remarkable discipline and determination against the foes they invade. Unfortunately, both wars showed that the Japanese were extremely brutal adversaries who are highly successful at incurring the wrath of their foes, to the point that unbridled rage would alas spell reckoning against Japanese forces.

It’s “mon” meaning crest not “mum”. They ground them off for multiple reasons but enemy powers not possessing the “Emperor’s property” was not the only one. It was more about the shame. Kuomintang and many other opposing forces used captured Japanese rifles (because most bolt action rifles made by the US/Japan/Russia/Italy etc were usually pretty good weapons) during WW2 and they weren’t scratching them off then.

Japan's historical distortion, historical revisionism, is too absurd Germany reflects on itself Germany teaches history accurately The Japanese should emulate Germany Come to Korea and study There is a lot of historical evidence Every country has a dark history. That's one thing. Whether they are ashamed and regret the wrong doings in the past and not cover it up is another the Asian Holocaust the Asian Nazis Japan should reflect on itself Germany knows how to reflect on itself, but Japan doesn't There is a lot of historical evidence in Korea It's an accurate history At that time, Japan was a serious, twisted evil empire As soon as industrialization succeeded, it invaded the neighboring country I must say that American soldier was necessary and it saved at least 20x more lives considering that Imperial Japan never wanted to stop doing Asian holocaust. Thank the American soldier for stopping the Asian Nazis The adults told me a lot of stories But Japan denies history You have to reflect history correctly to get along well in the future For future generations, too

Terrific video! But there are many far more immediate and strategic reasons the Japanese sneak-attack on Pearl Harbor was A TOTAL DISASTER for the Japanese high command war machine! #4. The Japanese war machine was SO WELL HONED by Dec 1941 that they didn't need a sneak attack - look what they did to the Philippines hours, days after their surprise- attack war was out of the bag. And though many criticize Gen. MacArthur for not doing much to resist the Japanese tidal wave, the grim facts were with a direct pipeline of fighters, bombers, and top notch naval ships from the (Japan) homeland to the PI invasion, NO American resistance in the Philippines would have lasted long - the U.S. simply didn't have the aircraft available, and there is no way the Navy could contest the IJN around those Philippine islands #3. As you allude, the sneak attack murders of U.S. sailors and soldiers at Pearl Harbor really provoked righteous outrage and vengeance among millions of American people - it's hard to quantify this contribution to the U.S. war effort, but it was clearly _huge_. #2. besides the fanatical dedication of Japanese soldiers, airmen, and sailors to give up their lives to kill the empire's enemies, the Japanese navy had TWO SUPER-WEAPONS: not, not the mighty Yamato and Musashi super-battleships (though they would have been hell-on-earth had they bombarded any U.S. Marine resistance had the invasion of Midway proceeded) but the Japanese had these SUPER torpedoes, "The long-lance" which were far superior to even late model (1945) U.S. torpedoes - they were bigger (far deadlier, more explosive power) and they were pure OXGYEN POWERED, meaning they were faster and longer range. Had the Japanese met the U.S. battleship fleet in open ocean, these LONG LANCE torpedoes - from destroyers, submarines, and aircraft - would have damaged OR SUNK the slow, older U.S. battleships - exactly as the British HMS Prince of Wales & Repulse were both sunk near Malaysia with negligible losses to the Japanese just a few days after the Pearl Harbor attack. #1. The MIGHTY "kido butai" JAPANESE AIRCRAFT CARRIERS ATTACK FLEET - it would take the U.S. navy OVER TWO YEARS to put a strike package of SIX large carriers in one raid - and that was with the Japanese PROVIDING FREE INSTRUCTION at Pearl Harbor! Where SIX large Japanese carriers with well-honed aircrews, not only expert dive-bombers, but torpedo bombers carrying those god-awful Long Lance torpedoes - the U.S. had nothing like it! Had Pearl Harbor not happened, would the U.S. have put 6 carriers together in a COORDINATED STRIKE PACKAGE as they would not do until 1944 - AFTER having LEARNED THE LESSONS of Pearl? Now while U.S. naval anti-aircraft fire was hellacious _(as all the early carrier battles showed, even in defeat like Lexington, Yorktown, and Hornet's defensive AA fire downing many Japanese aircraft)_, had all six of the Japanese carriers caught the U.S. fleet - even U.S. aircraft carriers - at sea, it would have been a nightmare - EXCEPT that as the VICTIMS at Pearl Harbor, the U.S. navy LEARNED AN INSTANT LESSON in the PRIMACY OF AIR-POWER, and put their CARRIERS at the FOREFRONT of ALL naval planning and attacks from 1942 on. But JUST IMAGINE the old, slow U.S. battleships steaming out to fight the Japanese navy IF THERE HAD BEEN NO PEARL HARBOR - they would have been easy pickings for the combined might of Kido Butai's torpedoes. The above is a partial list...and Japan's BIGGEST mistake was NOT AIDING THEIR treaty ally NAZI GERMANY by ATTACKING RUSSIA when German panzer armies were knocking at the gates of Moscow (Dec. 1941). Had the Japanese helped the Nazis knock the Red Army OUT of the war, the British and Americans would have had a FAR TOUGHER TIME FIGHTING Nazi Germany's "Fortress Europe," and the U.S. military high command would have been able to use even less effort in the Pacific against Japan.

It is interesting to compare the differences between Ming China and Toyotomi Japan during the late 16th century. On one side, you have a large empire that is internally corrupt and incapable of fully utilizing its resouces, both natural and material. On the other side, you have a newly united and highly militarized state that seeks to massively expand its relatively small territory. A recipe for conflict.
