I mean it's more a new adaptation of the novel Shogun than a remake of the 80s miniseries. As good as it looks, nothing can top the novel by James Clavell. Idk how someone with a channel called Japan at War hasn't read or listened to Shogun. Highly recommend getting a premium audible account and listening to the audio book. 54 hours of great historical fiction
Whilst I cannot speak on behalf of the new series I can say that the novel is one of the most effective depictions of cross culture encounters I have ever read. James Clavell is certainly an individual who has drawn from his own experiences of being a prisoner of war of the Japanese in world war two, something which affected him deeply.His experiences, meticulous research and the fact that he loosely based the novel on the historical figure William Adams' own experiences is reason alone why you should have a closer look.

Always great to see a video from you! Personally I'm cautiously optimistic about this show. I loved the book and even enjoy the 1980 miniseries. It's the story that got the teenage me to take an interest in other cultures.

Something similar to shrine by wwe(lord tensai theme song[first and second themes]; not a big fan of the wrestler, but the theme song rocks heavens!
I would highly recommend actually reading James Clavell's novel before going into depth about commenting on the ins and outs of the series. Or, stick strictly to the trailer and don't try to read into it or interpret it for your audience. Having both read the novel and seen the 80s mini series, you were way off base with most of your assumptions about what was going. Again, read the novel, it makes a difference. 🙂
Getting a real girlpower sense from this. Hopefully they don't turn the woman into a marysue who's good at everything ala Marvel since Disney's attached.
Does anybody want to see clean armors in a drama series? It's not a documentary to please historians. it's a show to entertain people. As far as I'm concerned I don't want to see clean "anything" in a project like that. People would be thinking the armors came out of a store and the costume dept didn't have time to break them down. My two cents.
