I'm soo looking forward to this! Thank you for starting another series. This war had such a domino effect on human history, yet so few people know about it.
Imperial force defied, facing 500 samurai Surrounded and outnumbered 60 to 1, the sword face the gun Bushido dignified It's the last stand of the samurai- Sabaton 🤘
Without this, Japan might not have been modernized so rapidly, might not have had the power to embark on an imperious expansion in East Asia, and therefore, would have been very unlikely on a collision with the US in WW2. Thus, one can say that the Black Ship sowed the seed that affected Eastern Asia history for the late 19th - to first half of the 20th Century.
And here it is at last! Great work Stefan, I'm sure that such a fascinating part of history coupled with your delivery will make for an awesome series!
The Black Ships and Matthew Perry have always piqued my interest ever since I first learned about the expedition during my days at university. And I have a family connection to the Black Ships as well Stephan - my 6x Great-Granduncle, George Henry Preble, served onboard the USS St. Lawrence which earned its place in history as one of the Black Ships and he later spent time surveying the Japanese coastline.
@@JapanatWar From what I have heard, George considered his time in Japan one of the more interesting periods of his naval career and always held a deep affinity for the country and its people afterwards, which was passed down through the years to myself.
@@JapanatWar Its nice when something I enjoy leads me down a rabbit hole of education. Recently learned about german philosophy, human biology and am now learning Japanese history 🤣
Right on stefan. A lot more depth than any other telling I've heard of this story. Glad to help your channel as much as I can; you always remind me of Azai Nagamasa, true samurai honor. Have a great day, you cheered me up. I'm definitely making pork katsu tonight as I rewatch. Ichiban! Aloha brada
At least Perry brought gifts to Japan. Things like new easier to mass farm foods like corn, guns which helped put an end to the feudal era, and probably most valuable a scaled down model locomotive train set that Japanese could reverse engineer and create railways for Japan, basically advancing the entire country from post middle ages to the industrial age.
it's been such a long time since I last watched your videos, I really missed the energy that came with these videos and I am thrilled to see you uploaded again. I also made a new Instagram account where I uploaded samurai armour, I hope you don't mind if I follow your account. Also sorry if this comment came out weird, I don't often comment on youtube videos.

It was inevitable that the industrialized west was going to conflict with the pre-industrial leftovers of the world.
