Dairy Farm Reproduction Strategy (119)
We were on our way from South Dakota to grand forks today we took a detour found your store bought some cheese milk yogurt and 3 kinds of ice cream all excellent also got to meet your brother in law told him we watch all of your vids then went over and took a bunch of pictures of your place
Hey can you describe training for your staff? And the process of keeping everyone on the same page on that size of the farm your family has. I think that would be interesting for people to understand.
Piet, You look like you may be suffering from hay fever.?
Safe and happy Independence Day Piet, thanks for sharing.
You are close to Fargo? Did you ever see that movie?
Thanks for the update on the 3/4 lines.
Good day sir are you hiring?
Enjoyed the cheese making. Would love to see the rest of the process, even thru aging.
Nice looking Fendt MT at the background ?
We had a 938 MT on demo for a couple of days.
Do you have well water there? Thanks for the video!
We have a well and a rural water line coming by the farm. The majority of our water use comes from the rural water line, that gives us consistent water quality.
@@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047 Right on! 👍
Looking forward to how the new grass seeding works out.
Nice setup with the new watertank! Maybe its possible to install a circulation pump, so the water will keep mixing up. Just a litte pump can do a lot of work in 24 hours!
Ik ben ook erg benieuwd naar de grasmix. Hopen op goed weer....
Love it. I used to do this work on a big place. Al, Mike and Freddie
Interested to see how your forage mix works. Alfalfa is pricing itself out of the market I think.
Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance.
♥️🇵🇱👍
What rotation of forage production do you have? We are in Italy and mostly have green rye which is chopped at the end of April at the beginning of May. Then comes maize, which is chopped in September, followed by wheat or barley, which is threshed the following year in June/July. Then field grass is sown and harvested, and green rye is sown again in October of the same year. Grass and Alfafa are grown in a 5-year rotation and are always alternated.
We don't have a specific rotation we follow. Currently about 30% of our acres are in this forage mix, 10% in alfalfa and 60% in corn for silage. Our season is too short to double crop corn after a spring forage but if this forage mix works out that becomes an option to follow a spring crop for us.
@@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047 nice
Thanks for the explanation of the water situation. The new tank should help your needs. Thanks Piet, for the video.
Another interesting video!!!
Are you guys close to Carrington North Dakota
👍
Yes, 3.5 miles from Carrington.
been a pretty nice growing season so far up in here in Manitoba. I'm not sure exactly where in North Dakota you are but compared to last year it doesn't even same we are living in the same hemisphere. Don't want to jinx it but maybe the drought is finally over for the long term. I know my cattle can't even come close to keeping up to the grazing rotation I need four times the cattle.
It's definitely been a little strange getting rain every 3 or 4 days. That doesn't happen here very consistently, I'm sure it won't stay like this all summer.
Sure nice seeing some equipment on your farm that has the right colour green paint! LOL!! 😂 Another awesome video Piet! I love seeing everything is so neat and tidy! That’s the same way I grow up on the farm as well. My Dad was very fussy!! We milked 8 cows by hand and shipped the cream to the local creamery. They would come and pick it up from the farm in this 5-8 gallon metal cream jugs.
Riverview dairy's has announced announced plans to build a twenty five thousand cow Dairy in trail county. Would like to know what you think of that.
I toured one of their 10,000 cow farms a few years ago and thought it looked well run and clean. I don't have any personal experience with them, but 25,000 cows under one roof on one location seems like a lot to me.
Good pile alfafa I use also barrier oxygen from SILOSTOP, good quality product.
May I ask how many acres you farm and do you grow all your own forages?
We farm 1200 acres, we also purchase forages from neighboring farmers.
And lovely, the break has to be in the SHADE!
Your barns, barnyards and piles are always neat and tidy. I love seeing that. You’re obviously on top of that, I know you must be busy with other things
Awesome drone footage!!Happy Birthday Ian !
Thank you!
Ik ben benieuwd Piet. 20 cm zand over heel de kuil is garantie op succes maar onbegonnen werk voor jullie volumes. 😅
When you take a feed test to see the quality of the alfalfa do you sample it right away or let it ferment and sample closer to feeding time?
I'll take fresh samples when we're harvesting and our nutritionist will pull a sample again when we start feeding it.
Could you do some videos from inside the tractor with the blade and show how it works with seat facing backwards Thank you Happy birthday Ian take a day off work if you can 😊
Yes, I can do that in a future video.
Lol, good old North Dakota wind, alway makes things tougher.
Is this a lite crop for you or good crop
This was a good crop yield wise.
👍🏻 From NC. I know how hard this work is…
Happy Birthday Ian. 🎉 🎂 Nice drone footage, shows how big those fields really are 👍 Hope the new plastic works out for you and glad the company sent you for trial.
Thank you!
It may be late but Happy Birthday Ian , hope you had a good birthday.
I really enjoy this video
Thanks!
Happy Birthday Ian. Hope it's a great day. I was wondering why the pile was in the yard and not in a bunk ? You've got many different piles spread around the farm. You're gonna pile corn silage there later on. Now I get it. it is interesting how in different areas, farms are either doing very well, or are under water from excessive rain in the last couple of weeks. You've got sunny weather and blue skies and good silage right now, that's a good sign.
Awesome! Been out several times and always missed the tour - this is great! Thanks for sharing!!
I love being the first view and comment
How often does this whole process take place, draining the ponds and applying to the fields
Twice a year, in the fall after crops have been harvested and in the spring prior to seeding the next crop.
How many acres of alfalfa do you have for first cut?
The two fields we made haylage on are about 330 acres total.
Have you seen any changes in your mouth quality or quantity from when you put the new 3/4 hoses on
It hasn't affected milk quantity, I think it might be too early to tell if it will have a noticeable effect on milk quality. In theory, it should be positive for milk quality long term because it's lower vacuum on the teat ends of the cows.
That is one big arse tent.
GREAT JOB THANKS FOR YOUR FARMING WORK TOO FEED PEOPLE ENJOY
I wrote my bachlor thesis about alfalfa silage in dairy diets. Queen of forage! What is the cutting height? The stubble look very small.
The cutting height is about 6cm.
Your place blows my mind! I used to farm and I know how you feel.
That nice mower how many acer can do hour?
Depends on condition, but I was mowing between 35 and 45 acres per hour.
👍👍✌️
