  • In this week's video, I'm servicing two skid steers and our telehandler. I'm changing the engine oil and filter and looking them over.

    It is great to see you working all aspects of the farm, cattle contact, records, maintenance and all the rest. You are an active part of the operation not just a sit back and manage. Great job I wish you continued success.

    Hey Piet. 1pm Wednesday. It's 6c there and 10c in Montreal. Not bad. You know what's coming tonight?? A snow storm in Montreal. 15 to 20 cm overnight. UGH!!
    I am always impressed at just how much knowledge one needs to work on a farm. And I am sure there are no "fine tool" University Degrees to be had, it must be all "On the job" training, as it were. If not Moo Cows, then Milk, if not milk, then Machinery, if not Machinery, then Farming, and if none of the above, it's POOP !!! Because as I am well aware, it's ALWAYS about the POOP!!
    Hope all is well down there.

      On the job training is typically the best way to learn anyway! I hope we don't see snow again until next fall.

    'With the Case skid steer I got in the habit of extra tightening the oil filter because they would come loose..." - For a while now the engines used in the Case skid steers is made by Shibaura and one would think they would have the oil filters figured out by now. It should just be a matter of getting the amount of contact surface on the gasket and that should equate to some diameter and pitch for the filter bolt.

      This was probably 10 or 12 years ago. They had the filter mounted remotely for easy access, we had them come loose on several occasions.

    I’m curious if you ever do add up all the hours on machinery in a year? I’m sure it’s pretty staggering! I’m also curious how it works out on a per animal basis? I like your oil sample idea every 1k hours that’s something I should look into doing more of.

    Did I miss hydraulic oil filters?

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I replace the hydraulic filter on our skid steers every 2000 hours, tellehandler every 5000 hours, I didn't change them this time.
