  • Major Milk Parlor Upgrade - This week, we're upgrading the milk hose in the parlor from 5/8" to 3/4" hose. The increased hose size will allow us to reduce the vacuum level, which will benefit udder health.

    Great video, never thought about using 3/4 milk hose, we do get some cup slip or complete fall off with high producing cows especially new heifers. Can you do a follow-up video in a month or so and analyse how the change has gone with cell count and cup slip. Thank for taking the time to make these videos.

    Your guys sure keep things going. Being an old beef guy, I can't get over how uniform the teats are. We had hereford cows and the bigger the bag the better (not).

    GOOD MORNING

  • @wolzer90

    The technology in the milking parlor looks very familiar to me. We have the same GEA milking parlor, but 60 places, a deep, narrow pit (we only have one-sided return to the barn) with a lifting floor and the Apollo milking unit with backflush and dipping. Tomorrow I'll check what diameter of hose we have. Greetings from Germany.

      How has your experience been with the apollo milk unit, is it reliable?

    • @wolzer90

      @@pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047 We have had good experiences with the Apollo milking unit. The technology is solid and well-developed. With the automatic dipping and backflush, we can milk 270 cows per hour with 2 people (1 milker and 1 milker/pusher). Our milkers are all on-the-job trained workers from Ukraine with no apprenticeship. With the automatic vacuum shut-off, no dirt gets into the milking unit, but you don't hear it falling down so directly either.

      @wolzer90 Thanks for sharing, that's very efficient! Automatic post dipping in the liner is something I'm interested in to potentially install on our farm.

    How many robot milkers would it take to replace your parlor?

      It would depend on how we would retrofit them in. It would work out to 28 to make it work with our pens, but then we'd need to add cows to make the robots more efficient.

    Is the milker unit outlet still 5/8 and the inlet to the milk line still 5/8? Not sure what you would gain without increasing all connections to 3/4.

    How big is the vacuum now? when you talk about 125 what unit of measurement are you referring to? In Italy we talking about-0.41kpa of vacuum
    Thanks

      After changing to the larger hose we're consistently averaging 12.2-12.3 in Hg at the milk unit, that's about 41.5 kPa. We've reduced the large fluctuations in vacuum that we used to have with the smaller hose. The vacuum is set based on the liners we are using on the milk units.

    Hey Piet, ga je dan het vacuüm handmatig verlagen als er een laagproductieve groep binnen komt? De vacuümregelaar verder opendraaien of is dat elektrisch te regelen? Interessante vlog.

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  Před měsícem +1

      De vacuum blijft het zelvde voor alle koeien. Met de kleinere slang konden we het vacuum niet lager zetten omdat de vacuum te laag dee zakken bij de milk unit bij hoge productie koeien. Nu blijft het meer consistent bij ale koeien.
