  • @BackyardAstronomy2018

    Nice TC. I have been working on my (multi-static) SGTC for the last ~2+ months (nearly 3months now, actually). I have had it producing streamers that would occasionally hit the ground (toroid center height of ~36"{+ or - a few inches} above the ground). However, running it without any current limiting isn't desirable for several reasons that I won't get into ATM. I have been trying different things for current limiting (such as the primary coil(s) from junk MOT's I have lying around), but I just can't seem to get it working well enough to fulfill my needs or achievement goals I wish to accomplish! My current setup is undergoing a major design change to the MMC Bank, Primary Coil, MSSG, etc. and I've been trying to figure something out to get the best *gain/sacrifice* ratio (an unfortunate consequence of current limiting my Dual "MOT" power supply😐) so I can get the power output that is/should be- acceptable for the PS setup. I was mainly curious about how you might go about trying to best address the issue?! If you would be so kind to offer me some helpful suggestions for designing an RLC circuit, or perhaps, maybe only using a specific design and arrangement of calculated hand wound Inductors?! Or, perhaps, just Some other ideas you have tried/would try?! Any advice on how to best achieve this "ideal"- reliable, consistent performance with a "Current limited-Dual MOT" SGTC design, you would most certainly be greatly appreciated!👍😉

      @felixb.1756 Před 2 lety

      Consistant, reliable and good performace is really damn hard to achieve with SGTCs. I built a large one myself a few years ago and it is just a mess. The spark gap gets hot, the transformers draw too much current and are extremely deadly. I would suggest looking into DRSSTCs. Thats what I did too and heck I'm 16 years old and build a 9 feet tall DRSSTC producing over 16 feet long arcs. If you need some info/help reach out to me.

    Hi Tony. Thus is great! We own litter robots and are very frustrated with their flakyness and have been thinking about doing something similar. When I stumbled across your video and realized that we may not have to reinvent the wheel, if, of coarse you are willing to share. I can code and my hubs can do circuit boards and other hardware things. Are you willing to post details of how you put this all together? Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

  • @MplsBarry
    @MplsBarry Před 4 lety

    Hi- Nice project. I have often thought of doing something similar, although chiefly because I have over the years found the circuit boards on my LRs to die or become wonky and it just drives me nuts to have to replace them. I am extremely familiar with programming for the Pi and am fine on the hardware side needed. However, I was hoping to avoid monkeying around with my multimeter to read the signals or loads on the various pins for state changes and driving the motor. Would be great if you could post your project on Github or similar. Thanks.

    I know this is an older post, but exactly what I am looking for. I got a hold of the Nuts&Volts article. What if you use a little lighter wire, as long as you get 9-10 ohms, would that still work, I have some #30 instead of #28, I also read somewhere (I think on your pendulum) something about connect a wire to the outer trace for some reason, is that you. Thanks

      @@teslacoil so I sort of got it working, but I need a real big strong magnet for it to run, which is throwing off my adjustable length for timing. I didn't have a 1M variable resistor, so I put in a regular 1M resistor, if I reduced this, what would that do, make the coil stronger? thx

    • @s3rkanAGA
      @s3rkanAGA Před 4 lety

      @@teslacoil what do you mean the outer wire stops the circuit going into oscillations? I have tried many two transistor circuits for my pendulum clock. One of them worked correctly but it not stable. It works very well with an aa battery over night and at morning I find it vibrating with no oscillation. I couldn't understand the reason. I have a coil with around 45ohms wound with 0.2mm wire.
