I saw your video and note your complaint before buying the Kickped from NYCeWheels. Before I placed my order, I specifically asked them if the spacer has been installed, and they replied "all Kickpeds now come with spacers installed!" (exact quote). Guess what? The rear wheel does not roll smoothly and stops quickly, and there is no spacer in the rear wheel!! I dunno why only one wheel has the spacer. I am still waiting for their reply and explanation on why they lied about the spacer being installed, and I am waiting for a replacement spacer free of charge.
I agree with you totally Tony: if you loosen the lock nut, the wheel appears to spin a little smoother and longer, but never as long as the wheel with the spacer. Plus the axle starts to wobble if you loosen the nut too much for the sake of less binding. The front wheel which has the spacer rolls smoothly and for a long time, without needing to adjust the tightness of the nut.

Two weeks and two emails later - no reply from NYCE. I am not bothered calling and starting a shouting match. I ordered and received new spacers and washer (a washer is also missing on the rear wheel) from Dave's Motor www.davesmotors.com They are really helpful and stock most of the Know-Ped aka. kickped parts (except the rear fender brake).

The currently shipping kickpeds include the bearing spacer. One thing to note about this particular scooter, though, is that the bearings are sealed and of a proprietary size. This means that (a) you can't really clean them yourself, (b)you cannot lubricate them, and (c) you can't replace them with with upgraded skate bearings. The machine bearings that come with the scooter are okay, but you will definitely feel them holding you back when next to a xootr or one of those larger razors. In all honesty, if I'd known this going in, I might have gone with one of those other scooters.
That said, I do ride this to and from work every day, and take on BART, and it gets the job done nicely. Good luck!

I was wondering if you could change the Ped bearings to some well-regarded fast skate bearings so am disappointed to see they would not fit. I suppose if there is ever a bearing problem you could just get new Ped bearings of the same type. Thanks for answering this question.

    Say Tony,
I just got my nyceWheels kick ped. After doing research on kick peds came across your video. I called NYceWheels and they said everything has been fixed, and I asked how my scooter will come. They said perfect.
So with this in mind, Im taking the time to let you and youtube know, My scooter is very fast and very smooth! NO ISSUE at all. Very FUN!
Might want to think about removing your "trouble" video soon. As there is No issue.
All I see here is someone way over tightening their wheel,, and making a video.

Tony Tiger My brand new kickped spins just like the one in this video. I received it ten minutes ago. I will look to see if it has bearing spacers

The front wheel is not spinning nicely in this video simply due to the axle nut being overtightened.
If you back off that axel nut a bit it would spin just as nicely as your rear wheel.
Currently All KickPed Scooters ship WITH bearing spacers in both wheels,

Steve, that sounds great, except mine was just unpacked and the front real does the exact same thing. So does that mean it ships a bit over-tightened?

FYI The website for this scooter now says "Now including bearing spacers! "

At 0:47 in the video below, when Peter from NYCewheels spins the front wheel of the Kick Ped, the wheel doesn't spin freely (indicating, as Tony Tiger says, no bearing spacer). Why did Go Ped (the manufacturer) do this? Why isn't NYCeWheels just coming clean about this?

A while back you had a link to some photos of a kickped wheel which had failed/collapsed - do you still have that link?

    Tony,
I just ordered two of those spacers for my new Knowped. I just got it today and one of the first things I did was the wheel spin test like in your video. My wheels hardly moved. I did loosen the nuts a little and that helped. I ordered my spacers from daves motors. They were $2.00 a piece with $3.00 for first class shipping.
Is it an easy install to put them in? Any advice would be great or pics would be much appreciated!
Thank you so much for making the video!

    Hi Tony,
I ordered the Kickped from Amazon that will be sent by NYCewheels "before" I read your post. I called them today and they indicate that the front wheel will have "two" spacers, while the rear wheel will only have "one" spacer; they indicate the rear wheel has "one" spacer due to space constraints. I'll know more when I the scooter arrives; however, curious whether you put 2 spacers on the rear wheel also?

Tony, great video; thanks for sharing!
In debating making a similar "modification" to my new kickped. Would you say that adding the spacers has made a noticeable difference to the scooters performance, either in terms of speed or coasting range?

Tony Tiger Thanks for the quick reply. I just put in an order for two. I'll report back in a couple weeks.

Hi just wanna ask you for an upgrade about this bearing spacers issue. I have ordered a kickped and I am from UK, so it was quite expensive and I would not be very happy if it still has the same problem. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Thank you for this video. One question in one of your comments below you said that the Know Ped has the bearing spacers in both wheels, is that correct?, because this can help me to make the decision.
Why shall i buy one or the other, i mean KnowPed or Kickped.
    Thank you

I was in the same boat as you a few months ago and decided to go with the knowped. Main reason was it was almost $100 cheaper getting a knowped through amazon than buying a kickped from nycewheels. If you have prime, amazon offers free 2 day shipping also. I simply got a knowped and got the board for $35 from nycewheels and my total price was still over $50 below the kickped. And the wheels spin freely with no bearing issues whatsoever. Another reason i got the knowped was because it came with hand brakes which the kickped did not. Hope this helps.

Hi Tony Thanks for the video.
Could you point me in the direction of the item or link of where for where i can buy the spacer from the Goped website ? - presumably I need to order two?

      Tony G Awesome thanks!
How much postage did you pay? When I try and put it through it says about 15 bucks to NJ !!! Does your scooter feature the new sideways handlebar fold? If so could you post video? I'm looking at buying one.

Tony Tiger The spacers you linked to are not in inventory. Would these work? secure.go-ped.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=1038A

  • @AlexanderNovikov
    @AlexanderNovikov Před 10 lety

you need to loose a bit front bolt and everything will be ok, you tightened it too hard.

    • @AlexanderNovikov

Tony Tiger I just ordered kickped and not yet tried it, so I need to look closely to the truck construction, but I do skateboarding for about 12 years already and nuts never unscrewed for me... And I never used any spacers, just tighten my nuts till 1 mm space left before bearing and that's it. And because for skateboard trucks (and I believe for kickped too) are using special nuts with blue paint inside to prevent unscrewing... And it's not right to tighten it too much because you're compressing bearing and basicly after two runs you can throw it away.. Tho it's just my experience. But yeah you can use spacers too if you want, nothing bad about it.
