- 2023 update - This pendulum has been running non-stop since 2007. I replace the battery every 3 months.
The single electromagnetic coil in this circuit serves a dual purpose. It's used as a timing and feedback sensor and is also used to repeal the magnet keeping the pendulum swinging. The pendulum will swing for 3 months on 2AA batteries. This pendulum has been running 24/7 for the last 15 years. My cat will sometimes play with it. The control circuit uses only solid state components and will never need any adjustment or repairs. The pendulum arm swings on a single skateboard bearing. For me this technique look like a solution on sustainable energy sours but I never read anything about magnet pendulum as a energy source... is there a reasons why they do now use it? any disadvantages?

Use BEMF to recharge the NiCd battery ;) or use bifilar coil to get more power from kinetic energy of pendulum. Transform this device to be self powered.

its not an energy source. It only converts electric energy in kinetic energy, like every electric motor.
