I never really cared for the competetive scene of the game, I just liked old rust for being a silly simple survival game to play with your friends. It's way too complicated and grindy now.

started playing during the old recoil day and racked up about 2.6k hours. Gotta say the game has definitely changed to something else but I try to stay optimistic and enjoy the new era. i Can't see myself putting the game down for a while even if newer changes aren't great or necessary.

I could run rust on my PC in 2020 I know its 4 years ago but has that much been added that it cant run anymore even on Potato

and yet since 2021 the game has been booming in popularity... ever since november 2020 the game has been retaining more players then ever before as the heights of rust BEFORE then was march 2020 with 125k, july 2019 with 93k, december 2018 85k to the LOWEST since the start of 2021 being September 2021 at 106k which was more then most of the peaks beforehand (the only one being over that being march 2020). This has shown that no, rust has actually been increasing in popularity and for most players the updates being quite favorable.

You forgot about old rust arrow raiding glitching into rocks in Old Rust with a wooden door and when they added wooden shutters to the windows you could do the same with those after they fixed it with doors.

"with the recoil change, a lot of good players became average" lol they were not even good to begin with, recoil is just ONE of the aiming pillars and even with that any not rock bottom player knows that game sense talks A LOT more than monkey spraying a target at 120+ meters. Majority of those so called "good" players that still cry to this day and claim to becoming average after the recoil change its almost certainly means they paid 20$ with mom's credit card for a recoil script and that alone was all they had to maintain a competitive edge against the legit ones that were still on the learning curve period. When I was still new to rust and hop on UKN to learn guns mechanics I could not count the amount of times I found players with laser perfect sprays that could triple tap me at 128m range but on scrims would still lose 90% of the trades against me because of their cockroach reflexes and boneless pizza awareness, aint no way a legit player that puts thousands of hours on practicing don't develop a slightly bit of those skills alongside with the recoil. At some point I learned the recoil and enjoyed it while it lasted and after the update personally to this day I don't see myself losing more gunfights compared to before and I strongly believe it is not just me, every single legit pvp chad is still killing it after the recoil change.

If you think the zero-skill aim is a problem for pc rust, try playing console rust where 80% of people are using zen (scripts). The official servers have zero moderation to get rid of them and anyone who isn’t scripting like me and my duo, have to be 10x smarter or better than anybody to kill them. This isn’t even factoring in larger groups that plague servers offlining everyone indiscriminately.

I miss the days of beta. No upkeep, those caves were so OP too. I've been complaining for years about the darkening indoors. Your eyes adjust to make indoors BRIGHTER, why do they make it darker???

Imagine making a history video and you dont know what the fuck you are talking about...... crossbow 1 shot?? What about the hidden caves on legacy map? Do you even play rust?

Playing Rust, there is no longer "Tiers" that players move through - prim for a bit fighting like a savage (really the only time we use melee unfortunately), then you hit tier 2 and you have a whole new world of tactics and strategies you can use to go to war and environmental elements to have fun with, and then you hit t3 and you are just on a completely different level - none of that progression happens anymore. The meta exists because devs allow it - you just get to Tier 3 endgame content in the first hour after wipe. Rage for a day and a half and then not play at all complaining that the "servers dead." I dont like getting to Endgame content in a videogame when theres so much meat you just SPRINT through to get Tier 3. Devs should time-lock tier 2 and tier 3 monuments, making them completely inhospitable with rads and stronger scientists' hp/dmg values, then scale it back to normal as hours/rust days pass on the server. Otherwise, lets be real - this game is just a sandbox arena shooter, except you're required to forage and slave away just to get your loadout. F*cking stupid.

Ah the good old times. The multiple crossbows & water pipes in bar meta The building so close turrets completely cover pumpjacks and deployable queries meta The good ol "you can find a rocket breaking barrels" The good old no workbench, you have to find shit meta.

For some reason people always talk about how the game was "originally" aimed at competitive players with the recoil patterns. But originally the game had random recoil, then aimcone, and then it finally went to patterns. It was always aimed toward casual players. The only one that wasn't aimed toward casuals was the patterns. Thats why most people who have been playing since legacy or early new rust quit at that time.

yk when I started rust I was bad af with guns since it was hard af, but after playing for some times and practising my aim and seeing it becomes better... I was feeling accomplished like "finally I have done it" but than some random dude comes up and kills me and that pushed me to get better at the game. Now days I cant get that feeling anymore, everything becomes pointed on luck no need any skill only need some gamesense and luck and that's it. oh And I remember the times that me and my bois go to oil rig with bows and pumps to get weapons since it was the easiest way to get good guns and some good loot. but now its does not matter who goes to oil first anymore since all you gotta do is farm scrap and unlock it from workbench. nowadays having playtime over 1k does not matter since there is no recoil.

How is attack heli “broken meta” 2250 scrap to buy one that will last maybe 2 hours. Not to mention 2k on top of that researching to HV. Yeah no not at all fitting for the definition of meta

Only noobs with macros and no game sense hates the recoil change, no one els. Classic cheaters to whine about a change like this. And no, I do not have a bad aim, I can handle the old recoil pattern fine, but there is a fine line between those streamers who uses mouse macros like that warrior guy. Even aloneintokyo used Mouse macros and he was busted doing a few rare times on his videos, example once he picked up a m249 with a silencer on. anyone who knows how these macros works knows that attachements on will disable the macro or make it not work. Aloneintokyo could not handle the recoil and the m249 went straight up, you could clearly see he was trying his best to control the recoil but failed horribly. He then removed the silencer and boom m249 didnt even move while he sprayed down the people from long range. Be more critical to these wannabe noobs, it is all business for them which is why they do anything to cheat to make money.

I really think that rust should have added a matchmaking system instead of removing recoil.

those werent good times for average player. everyone had either macros or sweated out thousands of hours in the game making this game unenjoyable for anyone who has life. Rust did a good choiceletting new people breath air and if someone considers himself "good at Rust" then they will still overpower casuals just not in the overwhelming way like before.

I like to play competive but I also just enjoy game with not insane skill needed

The recoil change didn't make everyone average it was the Aimcone. Gamesense, aiming, and whats left of recoil already create a big enough skill gap. Aimcone might just be the dumbest mechanic in the game.

Rust is not a pvp gunfight game only and it must be much more difficult to win than just learn a fck recoil. The fixed recoil removed the fun from this game and actually many OG players left because of this. They were replaced by pvp only players like posty etc. I am actually buying a new gpu just because of this update. I hope the adrenaline will be the same as it was when recoil was random. Go and play counterstrike or some other gunfight games of you're mad and if the only "skill" you poses is learning a recoil paternt for 1000 hours practice.

1 thing u forgot about the compound bow meta was that people placed bags and boxes with compound bows on top of the electrical towers
