    "I finally think it's reached it's final stage."
    That's a super hard hitting quote from hJune, It seems we truly don't see happiness until it's gone. In my playtime from 2014 up until today, my focus has always been on the relationships, even though I never used the AK or was a competitive player in nature, I enjoyed the community it brought with the entertainment and drama from the clans who played. It really gave life to the community. I feel a lot of players miss that community for something to obsess over. I really hope Rust can revive a cause like that again to enjoy. Great reporting man, glad to see you back in action!

      Honestly I stopped playing rust because of how it was on console. Can't tell which servers ping is best for me and beyond that it's the zergs that eventually made me sick of it. They'd destroy every base in the area every weekend.
      Console needs balance I don't mind getting my ass beaten I do mind clans that wipe the map every couple of days though.

      You cant expect to play like a clan when you are a small group or a solo, just like in real life such environment scenario, smaller groups/solos would have to go the scavenger route. I was in the monuments all the time with big groups, not knowing how to play, sneaking and avoiding them, taking scraps, sometimes more risky plays with db and so on.
      T2 was meant to be the maximum for solo/small playere, with a few occasional ak's.
      Now its irrelevant though, you can finish rust at vanilla as solo in 1 day.
      Go outpost, hit some barrels, buy yourself a base, find a place with no rads low tier monuments, like supermarket, gas station if outpost is nearby its ideal. throw some bags, just suicide kill yourself and farm that shit, scrap it buy tier 2, at that point its 2-3, hours into the wipe and you get influx of t2 weapons for 500 surf from clans, buy it you are set.
      If you have 12 hours just do that on repeat and you will learn every blueprint you need and tier 3 wb.
      Drones made it too safe to buy shit, tech tree is the worst change ever, imho and its coming from solo, there is no prim phase anymore 2-3 hours and everyone runs with t2 guns... except the guys who suicide farm.
      Back in the day you had to go to rad towns to get some shit, if you get clothes you might as well grab some bow or shit tier weapon, it was more fun and more frustrating, but there were always stakes, now you can farm everything by being naked and suicide spam shit and use drone. no need to roam half the map for these garage doors on foot (if you are solo) it was thrilling to risk like that.
      Now low risk high reward gameplay is what kills rust.
      Damn i remember when clan traded me a full bolty with 8x for freaking vertical embrasures, cause they could not find them at all. since they dropped from lower tier boxes and they were busy at oil rigs :D
      Or me and my noob friend (just started) strat, everyone were beaming us, guns were hard we would spend all day farming 1300 scrap to buy l96 make a tower and i would snipe kids and he would run and collect their shit and we were wondering why we were always raided :D
      But we had no other means to get shit and only shot the geared players for their gear. fun times.

    The old PVP/recoil made the game super competitive for me and that was when I enjoyed it the most, I could actually see me slowly get better. Now PVP is just lifeless and every wipe feels the same. I would love to see them bring the old recoil back as a server option for server owners or just outright revert to the old recoil.

    • @BunnyEZ
      @BunnyEZ Před 5 měsíci +6

      I didn't like the changes to the recoil for the longest time, but I just had to swallow my pride and move on with the idea that old recoil is never coming back. I'm fine with it now, I love rust. Yes it was awesome seeing yourself become better, that was the thing that drove me as well, I'm extremely competitive that's why i found rust so amazing. I mastered the mp5 and It was so satisfying when you tripled someone from longer range. Wasn't good at ak, it was difficult to control, but I liked that only people who were experienced at the game could properly use a weapon like that. Also I was practicing ak as well, so slowly I was becoming better. It was similair to counter strike with the recoil where you had to master a spray pattern, now everyone can pick up a weapon and shoot, which lowered the skill ceiling and even bad players with better positioning have an upper hand.

The core substance isnt actually there anymore and what we are left with is all this junk that we actually didnt need in the first place. All new additions with each update were ment to compliment what we already had but it has instead just taken its place and what we once loved isnt actually there anymore. Sadly i dont think we will ever have our beloved game back and it might just be time to move on, once and for all.

    My biggest gripe about the changes in the game since I started, probably back in 2016 or so, is the community. Back when I started, every time you started a new wipe, and logged on after that, there would be a new story to tell. Players interacted with one another. Even when playing solo, and you were getting raided by an 8 man clan, there'd usually be hours of drama leading up to the raid. Nowadays, no one uses the mike anymore. There's no interaction anymore. You get killed, the guy who kills you loots you, says absolutely nothing, as if he's just looting anotger barrel or box. I've got a ton of cool stories I could tell from the old days on Facepunch's high pop servers back in the early days. You used to get on there, interact with one another, make friends, and make enemies. Not so much any more. It's turned from a survival game into a first person shooter with survival game elements.

    • @slampfezhat8876
      @slampfezhat8876 Před 5 měsíci +1

      thats so true. The interactions use to have so much more meaning and even though it was mostly banter, the alliances to be made and funny rock fights or bow fights would be great and so much more common. Now all my interactions now is with people 2 seconds before they raid me.

    • @BunnyEZ
      @BunnyEZ Před 5 měsíci +5

      @@slampfezhat8876 actually true wtf, I didn't even think of that. I remember having "neighbours" that we'd either roll with or be the biggest enemies with. It would literally be a war in that one square we used to live, you would grub each other, door camp, wait for your enemies to come back loaded from somewhere just to take them down and loot their full inventories. Now It doesn't feel the same for some reason and this doesn't happen as much as it used to.

  • @vayr880
    @vayr880 Před 6 měsíci +53

    Don't really see why they can't just have server owners choose what recoil they want for their servers. They say it's a balance issue but old recoil servers are competitive, I don't really see much balancing needing to be done once everything is in a good spot, competitive doesn't need constant new features and updates like Fortnite. Old recoil servers would have the exact old version of gunplay, no excessive bloom, RNG, etc. Maybe more people would play old recoil servers than new recoil servers, maybe the developers should realize that if that happens that is probably due to people preferring old recoil more and new recoil is a waste of time to make updates on. Rust doesn't have to appeal to everyone that is why it's unique. But what do I know, I'm not a developer. Just feel like they're making their game more generic to gain more money without caring about veterans or people that actually supported their game. Pretty stupid that they ripped away the version of Rust that 99% of the people supported them for without listening to any feedback except from the newbie popular Twitch streamers that are going to play their game for a week and leave anyways.

      Well i agree that they had to lower the difficulty of recoil, maybe 30% or 50% i dont know, but they straight up deleted it if you press ctrl.
      On top recoil added more nuisance if you were not a sweat you would pick 1 weapon and stick with it. Mine was mp5, i could not control ak as good as mp5, i would train it until i was beaming, i was taking mp5 over any other weapon, had some friends who never let go of tommies, etc
      Now you pick whatever best weapon you have, 0 issue or consideration which one you mastered the best. I know this wont fly close to sweats, but it was another charm to the game.
      At least now scripts are not an issue, i guess that was the main reason they did the change.

    Things that are killing Rust in my opinion(5200 hours played since 2018):
    - Cheaters out of control
    - Pay to win skins( camouflage, arctic hazmat etc...)
    - The way we learn blueprints in the workbench is too easy, back in the days everything was double the price and you should go out to find the bps or take it from someone.
    - Limits to creativity like auto-turret limits and bag limits.
    - The new spray and the new 8x killed pvp in long distances and the aincone is just trash.
    - Rust is getting easier and is attracting people that just give up at the first problem.
    - Have the map know from the star killed the exploration part.
    - It is so easy to get guns that the primitive faze of the wipe is practically dead.
    - Guns like the LR and the mp5 were killed by the new spray.
    - Back in the days we saw people that were good with different guns and now it is just thommy and ak.
    - Rust is dying as a survival game and is becoming a easy pvp where people play for a fell hours and quit even if things are going well.
    - No one wants to defend a base anymore, people just quit and star in other server everyday because it will be easy to restart.
    - Back in the days you could play rust in 1080 ultra with a weaker pc than my and now my RTX 2070 super with a i7 can't do that.
    - Rust is losing its aesthetics. things were more "rusty" in appearance, even the ground was redder, looking durt of rust, now everything is too realistic and clean more like cod and bf than rust.
    - Every map looks the same, every server have the same monuments.
    - We have too much T3 monuments now, what makes people hold it for more time.
    - In the past you should get out and get stuff, and it was difficult, now you farm a monument for a few hours and you are done for the wipe.

    11k hour player thoughts- I'm about even on like vs dislike of recoil update because there is a lot more AKs out and about which is good, but I also miss the skill gap. I think tech tree and drones removed a lot of the risk and exploration which leads people focus on safe play now. MLRS is one of the worst things to happen to the game. It was aimed at helping the solo/small group but gets abused by clans the most. An otherwise winnable raid defense is usually foiled by 3-5 MLRS strikes. The thing that finally made me leave the game about a month or so ago is the increasing amount of cheating in the game. Its wild how bad the cheating is and really kills the fun factor.

      The game is better now than it's ever been before imo. The only downside I agree with you on is the MLRS being way too abused by clans. The recoil update was pretty much necessary and required, no more recoil scripters and no more getting lazered from 300m by some no-life who spent 30 hours ingraining the recoil into their muscle memory. That just rewards people who sink the time into programming their muscle memory, that's not skill. We want to feel the same fun as the older days, but what really changed is us, not the game, we just grew up, or played it too much and now that everything has been done, there is no fun in playing the same thing again and again, whereas when we started rust, there was endless possibilities of things to do or try. Not to mention that it was also much more hardcore and challenging as a newbie, which gave us such a strong addiction to the game

So many fun and fun updates since then but i just can't accept the fact that all my hours playing ripped off of me in an instant with the recoil update. All my work and all my skill were just gone, and all I could do was hope that not many people are better. I played 1 wipe, and got completely stomped by people who only won because they had more teammates. I couldn't enjoy my favorite game anymore. 2018 Rust was so amazing... Like right before they added Minicopter and everyone roamed on their 2 feet. No electricity, you could toss turrets down wherever and just turn them on. No tech tree, so you actually felt the progression. It felt so amazing to find an item you had been missing to finally be able to research it (this literally made every wipe progression unique). Recoil was very skill based. So even a solo who was decent and put in the work/practice had a chance to counter the constant 3-4 man teams.
    I think Facepunch really loves their game tho, and it's a passion project and it shows. But sometimes they add in stuff that no one really asked for or wants. Like subs and vehicles, anti aircraft, mlrs, homing missles, drones, engineering, etc... Like it's just getting too complex with all the systems. Wish there were some official "old school" servers. Kind of like how World of Warcraft did Classic WoW or OS Runescape. People want to play the older versions of the game and I think it would be very successful if they added a couple servers at least, and not detrimental to the overall progression of the main version of the game.

      This is also my main complaint, it's not boots on the ground action, it rarely is. It's live anywhere, drone stuff from outpost, repeat.
      Rust is beautiful because you can play it however you want, but it used to be difficult to make it to tier 3 if you lived on the beach before oil rig and droneshops came.
      Now you make a farm and sell cloth for scrap and get everything through drone sales, or you make a boat base and take oil rig, instant tier 2 and potentially guns in the first hour of wipe.
      Get a heli and you can go to any monument or safezone easily and relatively safely.

    I started playing Rust this summer and I used to watch Rust content very frequently before that, Ramsey got me into it. Always wanted to play Rust. Don't get me wrong I enjoy it, but I gotta say, the best part of Rust is when you are getting your base set up. From the first wood until the last auto turret set up. As soon as your base is fully built, the thrill is mostly gone. Then it becomes a repeated cycle of "lets do cargo" "lets do oil" "lets do bradley" etc. Barely 3-4 hours in wipe and you already have teams fully built with armored doors, sheet metal core and honey comb and compounded. It's a bit sad, because it is way too easy to get the t3 tools stuff. If there was some way to extent this "exploration phase" "building base" phase, that would fix much. Because when you have everything you need, AK, Base and loot after day1 of wipe, no wonder you will have bored people constantly roof camping and griefing etc. Idk, thats my 2 cents.

    I been playing Rust since 2018 when i was still college student which i still have free time to play Rust day and night, but now when i'm working now its hard to spend time on the game where everything you did yesterday can be reduce to 0 due to offline raid. So i tried to mitigated this by playing on 2x 3x 5x server, but then the loot will be too inflate and people will come at you too fast and you can get raid in 1 day again, which point back to I dont have enough time to play Rust.
    As for other stuff the recoil patch i agree with you, it made bad player to average player but i still think that the good player is still good, just that they now have to be careful now that people skill are improve by a lot. I agree with a lot of this video. I would like to see the team system just turn into an ally system; which is already in the game. With the ally system your "friendlies" name doesn't pop up until you're pretty close to them. However you can extend this quite a bit by waving with a "wave check". Maybe get rid of the team system altogether and incentivize people making allies and making it somewhat easy to see them. As someone who's played since early 2015 in groups of 1-5. Having the old system of bi-weekly wipes made it a lot more fun to go around a server with old decaying bases almost like they were player made dungeons. However this was before TC locks were added. Instead of just looting the bases and researching before the next real wipe we'd actually stay on and play because wipe wasn't for another 7 or 6 days. I just feel like they went into a weird direction with the npc quests, drone shops and on a side note the blatantly pay-to-win-esque dlc/skins. I really wanted them to incentivize people talking to one another on the map and making dynamic player made content their focus. They already got zergs why not bake into the game to show their power and make them an enemy of solo's everywhere incentivizing them to team with randoms to just hurt them. Ive played Rust since Legacy and Although I haven't put in that many hours into it. I keep playing because when it first announced, And when I saw Frankie1080p playing this, I was so hyped, I enjoyed the good times on Legacy, I didn't get much of a big chance to play Rust during its Beta, I rejoined in during the time Mini's were added, And I kept playing because I loved the direction the game was going. Even with the Recoil rework (Which I personally do Enjoy) I still keep playing no matter what, the True enjoyment of playing rust was more than just the killing, It was the raiding, The building, Losing and then getting back up and claiming your revenge. Sure the change is debatable on whether its good or bad, But is it stopping you from playing? Not really, I'm not giving up and going to another game, Ive been with rust since the near beginning Just like I was with Team fortress 2, and Like both of them I love and devote myself to spending time and making new good times as I can.

    You gained a sub my friend :)
    I miss the old Rust... Not only for the old recoil (because i was kinda good at it but not a PvP Chad either, i was average... Winning good amount of fights but still loosing sometimes) so yeah i miss old recoil but it's okay, the thing i spotted the most is... are the Rust's Devs tryna kill solo gameplay ?? Like, have you guys noticed how LITERALLY every update, changes something that give even more advantages to groups and disadvantage for solos? They modify and remove things, in a way to make Solo's life a nightmare... (either it affects stealth ,so solos have a harder time to sneak up and groups and make some plays) either it affects PvP (as you said in the video, with that new recoil, groups are like a Zombie hord), there's that well known sentence in Rust, when you pvp: "There's always one more" (Basically when you're a solo, you wipe an entire team of 6,just you alone, you feel happy and proud of what you've done, theeeen there's a 7th member of the group that jumpscares the shit outta you and kill you. Nothing more frustrating than that... So yeah i'm running out of examples but am i the only one to feel like every new updates, makes it harder and harder for solo players ? As if solo experience wasn't hard already...Basically if you play alone in Rust, with no-one to watch your backs, you struggle soooo much, it has become so hard to make plays and clutches as a solo vs groups , even fighting a Trio or Squad has become hard. A solo vs a trio is hard nowadays. Back in the old Rust, if the trio had bad communication, or lack of gamesense, ooor bad recoil control, etc, you could just take them down one after the other, making them running in circles tryna find where you hide, outsmarting them, until the whole squad was dead. Now they just all yell in their Discord VCs "GEARED GUY 160° ON THE COMPASS !!" and they all mag-dump their gun in your direction and you die in less that 1.5seconds (talking about gun mags, wtf is it about that extended magazine accessory?? 38 bullets in an AK47 is fucking OP even more with that new ,easy af recoil the Ak has...anyway).

    I play rust console and when it 1st dropped since SOOO many people didn’t know how to play nor control the weapons it actually felt like a true survival game😂 there wasn’t a lot of pvp such as roams just pvp at events and whenever you catch someone farming and running monuments it was truly about out survival and that was it then in about a 2 month everyone learned what to do and everything changed

      Bro the first few months of rust console was insane. I saw less than 5 multi TC bases in the first 6 months of playing. It was crazy.
      Now we have crazy huge teams with Cronus all the time, and the devs have added split glitch back into the game like 3 times, and I still don’t think they’ve fixed the boat glitch. It’s mad

    started playing during the old recoil day and racked up about 2.6k hours. Gotta say the game has definitely changed to something else but I try to stay optimistic and enjoy the new era. i Can't see myself putting the game down for a while even if newer changes aren't great or necessary.

    I still FULLY believe that the recoil change was the worst thing Facepunch ever did to the game. When I started playing I couldn't use any of the guns besides the revolver, it was impossible. Then I started practicing, I'd go on UKN for an hour before I went on the actual servers. Doing this over months I got really good at recoil control, then I translated that into the actual game. I slowly progressed and actually became fairly good. Then BOOM they take it away and replace it with guns that don't have recoil. It was a slap to the face.

    Agree with everything but you have to adapt to win.
    Large numbers comes with its cost as well.
    Easier to deep on, pick off kits and learn their movements to jump teams.
    Larger rewards too when beating a group.

    I think they could fix most of the issues by simply adding a feature for servers to switch from old recoil to the current one and add more diversity for each biomes, like waterfalls, actual rivers, actual Mountains etc, cause it looks too much similar and limits the survival aspect.

  • @ChazMcClure
    @ChazMcClure Před 22 dny

    For some reason people always talk about how the game was "originally" aimed at competitive players with the recoil patterns. But originally the game had random recoil, then aimcone, and then it finally went to patterns. It was always aimed toward casual players. The only one that wasn't aimed toward casuals was the patterns. Thats why most people who have been playing since legacy or early new rust quit at that time.

    A lot of players who are content creators I feel like devoted so much to rust and it was their only game that they don't know how to move away from it. Like frost used to be in a constant group and almost all of his old friends from before recoil change have now left the game. Hes stuck playing though, its hard to tell if hes enjoying it or if he doesn't have anything better to go to.

    I have like 5k hours and I find myself getting off after a week 1 on monthly servers. I duo with one of my co workers and that is what revived my passion for it because with home, I played different. It’s a lot to experience from the game I would suggest switching it up doing different things. My first 3k hours was farming and staying in a general area. Hemp farming to get scrap for explosives vs farming sulf noids. It’s still farming and take time to turn in the hemp but it’s different from traditional bode farming.. it’s things like that you could change.. on wipe today I will build by oil for the first time ever and try it out. I play solo servers btw.. and once I get tired of that I’ll move to main vanilla and go against groups like the content creators do. But I am tired of playing my style and I miss opportunity by staying in general area..

    Didn’t have a pc in those older days of rust, bought it on ps4 when it came out there and despised the sweaty kids spending all night waiting for my old ass to go to sleep.
    Eventually elevated to pc gaming and now enjoy rust on a calm pve server that’s got the vanilla grind and just lets me do as I please. At 42 I don’t have time to focus exclusively playing this game. I got other things to do, so it’s nice to know my base will always be there the way I play regardless of how busy my day is.

    i couldnt have said it better, there is too much of too many things. sometimes less is more and i wish someone in the facepunch team had realized it sooner rather than later😔 i havent played rust in a coupple years now but even towoards the end of my time in rust a coupple years ago i started enjoyig pvp less and less..... this lead to me going in to my deamon arc, becoming one of the most hated player on any server i played, i love the grind, i love getting good, but when the skill expresion you could reach before was removed the skill gap was too small, i ressorted to just being the most PERSISTANT MOTHER FUC*ER and literally just farminng, i love the grind, sure the grind back in the day was more fun, but this was a new way for me to grind the game, how much sulfur can i farm and how many bases can i offline raid, how INSANELY RICH can i get.... i know this is looked down upon by most of the community but to be honest i think it was a great way to end the game, i had become what i used to hate more then LITERALLY ANYTHING..... i had reached the end of my journey to take a different path..... i had finished the entire "sircle of life" (rust) and my journey had come to an end, now i cant hate on facepunch too much, i must give credit where credit is due and for the better part of the games lifetime it was great, for me at least. i have had lots of fun and met lots of good friennd and i will NEVER take that for granted♥ sadly its just not for me anymore🥺

    One thing people tend to forget is that the server limits used to be like 50, and that seemed like a lot at the time. Now the servers everyone plays on are 300 players or more.
    Even if you do try low pop, the map is still massive so its harder to even find people.
    I played before and after recoil, and I personally don't think that made a difference. I think the recoil just gave script bros unlimited power.
    I disagree about guns, I feel like there are hardly any guns anymore. Most of the gun crates are super trash, and you have to do the monument puzzles to get the elite crates, which still have a lot of junk in the loot tables. The only people who get guns are the sweaty try hards who start on wipe day.
    I think they made the game to grindy. They really leaned into the tech tree and made grinding for scrap too important. I miss when I could find guns at monuments and immediately get into some good combat, instead of having prim gear until I either strictly follow some try hard meta or grind endlessly.
    I think we've both had 2 very different experiences, I've played Rust since legacy.
    I played Rust, you guys played Repopulation. Unit. Survival. Test.

      Tbh guns are only rare on wipe day or maybe 2 days if bp wipe, bith sars and tommys are rather cheap, i usually see ammo/meds as more expensive/valuable. I do think the game revolves around bps to much now and that creates a rather boring meta.

    I personally think that the tech tree should be time limited, for example you can only tech tree to tier three stuff at say day 3 or 4 of wipe. Where as going out to find guns to research is rewarded by being able to research them early, this would incentivise players to roam for guns early wipe to try and get an advantage over others creating more pvp and disincentivising just campaign a monument for scrap till they have enough to go straight to ak.

  • @gg-rf4ym
    @gg-rf4ym Před 6 měsíci +1

    Yup, the skill gap made sense. Now it’s just ak within a few hours and raiding in 6. As a 3 man.
