Thank you Dr. Ross Perry for teaching me all the care even vet tech procedures showing how to work with birds. I learned a lot. I even was able to rehabilitate a yellow bellied sap sucker and release it back into the wild. It also helped with some birds we rescued from my uncle's place where they were not being cared for and in a terrible building with no food or water and messy cages. My uncle had passed away and my cousin wasn't taking care of the birds. I rescued them with my dad and took them back to my parents' place and nursed them back to health. I was able to draw blood from the jugular vein and send the samples off. Surprisingly, their tests came back negative for several diseases. They were in good health with me. I had invested in trauma kits a vet would love and was able to buy a lot of supplies and meds from vet and animal supply catalogues and on the internet. It had stuff for dogs, cats, birds, etc. I had the money for all the things needed well past first aid. Anyway, I worked mostly with cats and dogs, but I even had a leopard gecko before we acquired the birds and my sister had a hedgehog. I even worked with the animals and exotics at Petco and grooming dept too. I've gotten experience in just about every field or career with animals, settling for vet clinic work and I started out as a kennel person but they had me giving shots and meds and doing a lot of tech work too. I learned about birds from the best, you! And I enjoyed every minute of it, except for the sad stuff. I also learned from books and videos here on youtube. Never thought I'd have a lot of skills normally that a tech would have, but I learned quickly and with practice. Thanks for the awesome videos!

Stop being selfish! Cockatoos live over 100 years in the wild with a partner. So leave them to be free! Help them and set them free!

Hello doctor! My female budgie is pregnant... Her vent is swolen... and I am concerned because she lays eggs every month which are not fertilized...I bought a male budgie for her and its been a year since i bought him but i keep him in a separate cage as he chases her ,(he plays with her) but she gets exhausted (they even preen eachother) ... recently I bought a big cage for them and decided to keep both of them together in it... its been 3 weeks since they are living together in that cage... she got pregnant again but she is not laying her egg and her vent is really swollen ... I separated the male budgie from her as he kept chasing her , didn't let her rest for a moment and she couldn't eat properly as he would follow her around everywhere.... its been two days since i separated them (he is in a different cage which i keep beside her cage) but she still hasn't layed her egg... she has started to breathe heavily with her wings open all the time.... she is still playful and immediately jumps on my finger whenever i move my finger close to her...the breathing and tail bobbing (she is panting alot) maybe because its 45°C in my country ... please tell me what to do i am super worried .. i luv her so much i dont want something to happen to her (shez two years old by the way)

DoctorRossPerry I have 2 budgies, Star & Luna , sister's who are coming up to 4yrs old. Just recently, Star has started squeaking when she breaths, and her tail bobs. Apart from yhat she is her normal self. I have been watching the videos of Casper you saw, who had same problems. I listened what you told them regarding the paper on cage floor, food, but Star is still squeaking . The perches in the cage are natural ones with bark anyway as I don't like the others. Can you advise me please as I don't have any avian vet near me. I look forward to any advice you can give me. Thanks, Josie

This is the problem I have with my male pigeon [Biggie]'s brother, "Wings". I got him like this, and the owner didn't know what was wrong, either (irresponsible owner, it was technically a secret rescue on my part). I suspect he was heavily bullied by other birds in his loft, and was just left that way until infect set in and it healed horribly. I'm not sure if it's a break, or if he was pecked with dirty beaks until a feather cyst got infected and scabbed over... I suspect, though, that something like a cat bit him, because there are two separate infected holes on either side of his wing. He can stretch and flap, but can't fly well. I've been applying medicated cream to the areas in case it really is just an infected area that scabbed over, because earlier in the day a bit of his scab dropped off at some point and I noticed blood---and I immediately began applying pressure to the underside of his wing. I thought, to my horror, that a bit of his bone fell off/out!? But it appeared to just be a rotting scab of an old feather root. Gave him cream and let him be (he absolutely hates every wing cast I've given him, no idea how he worms out of them because I'm pretty good at them!) and he's been stretching his wings more and more (caught him purring yesterday). Overall he's a shy, but friendly bird who still wants to be a part of his flock. I'm not giving up on him. There's no way if it's a break I'll be able to afford a vet putting pins into his wing or the anesthesia...Not in the big city where everyone is struggling to make money...I'm so worried about him...

My local vets just try to euthanize birds with broken wings; completely lazy and unethical. Lost a healthy magpie this way when handing them over to a "rescue" and I'll never forgive myself...

You know if you give your birds the opportunity to stand in the shower they can usually clean that stuff out on their own.

I have many cockatoos visiting my house throughout the year with this disease, if I am able to help one where would be the best place to take it as most vets I have called near me are not interested in helping… very sad to see them deteriorate .. I hope a cure is found .. thanks for the video
