Thanks for the great advice on here. Looks like I will have to call the local vet for my little budgie Purly. Tail bobbing, barely eating, puffed feathers and unkempt feathers. I have her in a heated environment now but will take her ASAP to the local vet. I'm definitely purchasing the book!

My budgie bobs her head when I take the sheets off in the morning. (or if she has woken up before). She starts bobbing ferociously, and you can hear her breath being labored, her mouth clicks, and she just does this for a good 5 minutes, after that she is okay for the rest of the day. You can hear her breathing hard throughout the day though. it was not always like this. Problem started at least 2 months ago.

Whenever I take my budgie out of his cage and flies around for 10 minutes I start noticing that he breaths heavily and his tail starts bobbing inside his cage he starts relaxing and doesn’t show those symptoms any suggestions?

      @mamathecockatiel3659 Před 4 lety +6

This is normal, its just relaxing from flying or exercise thats why they breathe hard.

    • @KKoKoRR
      @KKoKoRR Před 3 lety +2

Yes it is different thing. I assume you know budgies have no diaphram to breath, they have muscles that connect to lungs and their tails.
Your stiuation is like moving chest when breathing after running or excercising for human. It is compilately normal. But if someone does that without any excercise and if there is noisy breathing, it shows some respiratory problems. It is same for budgies but they move their tails insread of chests, up and down. And sometimes they breath with their open beak, after flying.
I have a budgie that bobs his tail when he's breathing but he's doing that when staying on perch, even if not flying. That is not normal.

Hello Milly. I am registered as a bird specialist and also care for other pets as a holistic vets. Please privately message me in Skype DoctorRossPerry or email drrossperry1@gmail.com and I will explain the terms and conditions. You may contact me @ 0419693279 for your appointment.
To help you and your Budgie I either need to physically examine him as a vet or to work remotely as a scientific dowser. The legal situation for vets is: Remote bird health advice and help
Veterinary Law internationally and locally makes it illegal for vets to give advice without having physically examined the animal recently and /or without being asked for another opinion by a vet who has done so.
Perhaps you can ask your vet for a referral to me to explore holistic options for helping your bird(s)? or I can take my veterinary hat off and work as a scientific dowser using a series of charts I have created including diseases, drugs, body parts etc of people and a range of animals including dogs, birds and remotely tune into your bird's quantum energy field and evaluate answers on an exponential scale from 0 to positive 180 and 0 to negative 180 re status, wisdom, vitality etc. This work costs $70 for up to first 15 minutes with the
first 15 minutes pre=paid, payable to drrossperry1@gmail.com via paypal or direct transfer to Perrecca P/L NAB Bank BSB 082330 account number 516897373 and thereafter $65/15 minutes or part thereof. I can also do transformative invocations and evaluate the almost immediate changes that occur with many of the above parameters. The wisdom of giving various drugs, remedies and courses of action can also be evaluated. None of this work is a veterinary diagnosis, veterinary advice or veterinary treatment. It is a remote reading of probabilities and possibilities as determined by scientific dowsing. I would anticipate 30-60 minutes work for
full work up etc. tho you/we should have a good idea of probabilities and possibilities in first 15 minutes. You can Skype video call DoctorRossPerry while I m doing it and I provide a summary print out of key findings within the time available.
Let me know your bird's name and send me at least one preferably more macro photos and/or videos of aspects of your bird and a detailed history of veterinary care so far if at all possible if you want to proceed.
      Blessings, Ross Perry

Hello doctor! My female budgie is pregnant... Her vent is swolen... and I am concerned because she lays eggs every month which are not fertilized...I bought a male budgie for her and its been a year since i bought him but i keep him in a separate cage as he chases her ,(he plays with her) but she gets exhausted (they even preen eachother) ... recently I bought a big cage for them and decided to keep both of them together in it... its been 3 weeks since they are living together in that cage... she got pregnant again but she is not laying her egg and her vent is really swollen ... I separated the male budgie from her as he kept chasing her , didn't let her rest for a moment and she couldn't eat properly as he would follow her around everywhere.... its been two days since i separated them (he is in a different cage which i keep beside her cage) but she still hasn't layed her egg... she has started to breathe heavily with her wings open all the time.... she is still playful and immediately jumps on my finger whenever i move my finger close to her...the breathing and tail bobbing (she is panting alot) maybe because its 45°C in my country ... please tell me what to do i am super worried .. i luv her so much i dont want something to happen to her (shez two years old by the way)

She still has the same symptoms, but her feet are hot and she seems reluctant to fly (even though she can still fly perfectly). It’s that high pitched squeaking noise that bothers me. It happens after she eats, when she drinks water, and sometimes just randomly several times. Other then that she plays with her toys, this has been going on for a year.

My budgie missy just sarted to breath heavy. Its not super fast but more like shes trying to catch her breath. Shes eating, drinking, and playing like normal. Her droppings also looked normal. Im unable to take her to a vet right now though i really want to. She also isn't off balanced or sleeping an overwhelming amount. I am certainly keeping an eye on her to make sure nothing abnormal is happening, but i did notice she'll breath heavy, stop and breath regularly for a few minutes, and continue heavy breathing.

I don't know whether to take him to the vet or not since he doesn't have any nasal or cere discharge and is relatively active and noisy throughout pretty much all of the day. Should the tail bobbing therefore be a concern? If so, what is it most likely to be a symptom of?

And yesterday I saw my bird opening and closing his mouth rapidly, not making a sound. Today he didn’t do anything like that. My budgie is tail bobbing and it lives with a mate. Its behaving normally other than that. I don't have any avian specialist in my area. Everything else is normal with it and it's just as active as it used to be. It may be pregnant because my birds started showing signs such as the male feeding the female and them eating together. I would love your opinion on this matter. Is it normal or do I have something to worry about?

I would among other things check the abdomen for enlargement. It should feel concave, caved in between end of sternum and anus. Your budgie can't be pregnant but she might have a retained egg or diseased oviduct if she has not been provided with a nesting box.. I would let her breed 1 clutch a year.Read my budgie e-book via www.goldcoastbirdvet.com. blessings, Ross

If not tell me if you have any left over antiobic tablets or capsules. @@haseebsaqib9186 what is your budgie's stuation right now, is it fine?
And if you don't mind, I want to ask your opinion and unoficially advice.
I got my budgie 4 days ago. He eats and drinks well, his poop seems good, poop has tootpaste consistency and green-brown color.
He has no illness signs, he just little bit foreign to new home but he eats what in my hand in the cage. He flies and chirps when I play budgie sounds to him.
He is sleepy sometimes in the days, not all the times but I think it's because of he can't sleep well at nights because he didn't adapted yet to new home.
The room temperature is between 22 and 25 °C, never belows under 22 °C and *he never pops up his feathers. That's because I guess he has no fever and any infection in his body. I'm not sure, need your opinion for that.*
Only sign is *tail bobbing.* Sometimes he is really bobbing his tails, not doing that when he is active. and sometimes he breathes noisily when he is sleepy but barely noticible even I listen carefully near him. I'm not sure it's noisy breathing or it's come from his beak because it sounds like just one tock per breath and it doesn't all the time. He sneezes one or two time when he clean his feathers. No dirty nose. But it has some dull color in his cere to me, not bright pink color. He is under 4 months old.
I gave him spearmint and carrots for vitamin A because you know many bird seller only feed them with millets.
But that tail bobbing makes me worried. It's been just 4 days, I know it isn't much time but I want to know if it isn't caused by any infection.
Mr. Haseeb I'm very sorry for this long posts and sorry my english. but I'm worried about my budgie. Do you agree with my guess? What is your opinion? I suspect he has vitamin A deficiency. But I don't know when he will be good by just eating carrot and mint leaves for vitamin A.

      @@KKoKoRR Thanks for asking.
My budgie is absolutely fine. The sneezing was just due to seasonal shift.
The tail bobbing you see your budgie doing is most probably due to stress.
When budgies are stressed/ adapting to a new environment, they breathe heavily sometimes and move their tail up and down, especially when a human comes near them... Hopefully, this will be resolved within a couple of days...
Also, regarding the nutrition; you should feed your budgie a good quality seed mix supplemented by fresh green leafy vegetables like spinach, beet root greens, chickweed, collard greens, etc.
You can also feed your budgie carrots, apples, celery, coriander leaves, mint etc.
Also, clean, fresh drinking water should be available all the time in the cage.
For calcium supplementation, cuttlefish bone can be hung inside the cage and the budgie will nibble on it whenever he likes.
Good nutrition, proper exercise and a stress free environment will make your budgie a cheerful and a healthy bird.
If you want to know more about keeping budgies as pets, contact me on my email: haseebsaqib2221999@gmail.com.
      P.s.
If the bird suddenly becomes lethargic and the tail bobbing intensifies or a wheeze develops, please contact your local avian veterinarian.

Hello Dr. Good evening. My female budgie is 6 months old and has a partner who is 3 months old. My female budgie has been having loose and large poops since day before yesterday. She is having tail bobbing and sitting with open wings often. she is eating well and drinking water. but very often runs inside the nest and sits inside. She is biting me and I tried to keep her male partner inside her cage and stays happy for sometime but tries to mate with him and fights at times. I saw them mating day before yesterday and kept them separate as the male is not mature enough. I took my female budgie to a vet and he checked her poops and said nothing serious. But my female budgie is sitting with the wings open, labored breathing, tail bobbing and large poops, dull eyes and eyes closed at times too.. Can you please advice what is the issue with her Dr. She is my baby and I cannot afford to loose her Dr. Thank you in advance for your advice Dr.
