Birds of the Bunya Mountains, Queensland
The Bunya Mountains are located in south east Queensland, and is home to the largest stand of Bunya Pines in Australia. Aside from that and its magnificent rainforest, it is a well known destination for birdlife, with a wide range of species present.
The footage in this video was compiled over a period of 9-12 months. Despite being such a lengthy period, I was still unable to record a Paradise Riflebird. Thankfully there are a few of the elusive species featured in this video.

I really admire all you people that go on these wonderful out- of- the- way hikes.I have done the "Overland " walk many years ago which was unforgettable in so many ways however being a "mainlander" with little real hiking experience I took the "soft" option and stayed in the comfortable cabins!I have however hiked to the summits of "Mt.Roland"and "Wellington" both of which were terrific.I wish that I had met people like you Lucas when I was younger, who love the outdoors and are always interested in exploring off the beaten track destinations, and of course you are SO LUCKY to live in "Paradise"/Tasmania;If I was younger I would live there;for me it has a magic all its own and I have travelled all over the world.I wish you and your colleagues many more safe and exciting Tassie' hikes.Cheers!Rod. Ps.Can you recommend any hiking companies that go to "The Walls of Jerusalem N.P?"It is an area that has fascinated me for many years;I would like to go there when the "scoparia" are in bloom and with some snow around;am I asking for too much?!!

Yeah you just follow the gravel road up from the carpark. You can cut some of the road walk out by using the track around the edge of lake Dobson, but you can't avoid the switchbacks. @LucasChamberlain Kosciuszko NP has a lot to offer. You have to do the Main Range track at least once. Sure it's a popular route and is "well developed," but the views over places like Carruthers Peak and Lake Albina make the 26km walk worth it. If you're going in-land NSW, I HIGHLY recommend Warrumbungle NP. A route I'd recommend - start from Pincham Carpark 2hrs before sunrise, get to Grand High Tops for sunrise. Take the route down the saddle to Mt Bluff Summit and enjoy the views for morning tea, then either take the circuit back to Pincham or if you still have energy, try and summit Mt Exmouth for early afternoon. You gotta do that National Park at least once, and pick clear weather for it.

Most difficult section was following the fault line between Junction Lake aalong Cloister Lagoon to Chapter Lake as it was unmarked and very rough back in 1990. Thats a big day out Lucas, not something I would have considered for a day walk. Are you going back to Qld?

So the original plan was to do it as an overnighter, camping at Junction Lake. Unforeseen circumstances meant it became a daytrip. But its about 15-16km one way from the end of Mersey Forest Road, and all on a track or cairned route, so I figured it might be doable. I'm actually back in QLD already, I did this walk a few days before Christmas, and flew back on the 27th. I'm coming down to Tassie in late Feb/early March for a week for some more walking though.

Yes I figured that was your route, well done. Very brave of you to jump back into the frying pan of Qld.

Have certainly missed your Tassie trips mate, as we know these sorts of videos are now being regulated by ridiculous and ancient law

That iconic currawong, I was planning a multiday through walls, chinamans, mountains of Jupiter back to overland and out. You have inspired me to actually get up there.

It's a really awesome area to potter around in. Junction Lake and Mayfield Flats were much more interesting than I was expecting! I assume you'd be going through the Never Never? I'd like to do that one day.

Good to see you again Lucas. You're a great spot there with the mountains all around. Enjoy.
