Mt Sprent Walk

  • Mt Sprent lies out at the far end of the Gordon River Road in Tasmania's southwest. It marks the beginning of the off track traverse of the Frankland Range, but can be accessed as a daytrip owing to a steep track that leads up from Serpentine Dam. Be prepared for all conditions if attempting this walk! As you'll see upon viewing, cloud, wind and rain are all common in this part of the world. The walk is approximately 4-5 hours return for most walkers.

Just told us this walk yesterday, sunny so could see the ocean from the top, favourite day walk so far but so steep

Great vid. I did this walk about the same time last year, probably one of the most painful day walks I’ve done.
You were right about the views from the top though, when the cloud disappears it’s an awe inspiring view.

Was the pain from the climb or the side ways hail?

      Thanks man 😀
I'm already hoping to head back when the weather starts to warm up and the sunny days are more common. 👍

They really are great views out west, beyond the concentric arcs of western ranges, in finer weather and rarely seen by many interstate visitors. Tyrone Thomas had Sprent in his first Tassie guide but then dropped it as it's pretty exposed. Another family guide to Australia once showed a walking route to the Olegas Truchanas pine reserve.

Yeah I think he took a few walks out from his more recent publications, so makes sense Mt Sprent also got left out. I really want to see those views!

Wow Lucas that looked bloody freezing mate, I felt cold sitting here in my lounge with a roaring fire... I think I'll consider that one a little later on the calender. Did look like a nice walk though and I'm keen to see the views in good weather.
Thanks for your time and effort in bringing the video to us enjoyed 👍

I'm glad it looked freezing because it was! I was very relieved to drop out of the clouds on the way back down. It's one I want to try again, especially in the warmer months.
      No worries 😀

It feels like it never stops raining on Mt Sprent. I have been there twice and it has rained both times, maybe 3rd time lucky, still some nice views over Lake Pedder & Gordon.
