    Fancy seeing you here Lucas.

    Lucky with the weather. Hope it continues. If shelters were ever considered I guess this campsite and perhaps the Fourways might be the ones. I'm thinking of the simpler types one sees on the NZ trails.

      Yeah there weren't many places you could make an unofficial campsite on the range because of the buttongrass. I recall one place a short way on from Bare Mountain (on day 5), but not all that much else.

    On this same day I was flying over black bluff on a scenic flight with another you tuber the wandering foxbat! Amazing scenary and black bluff seemed to have the most snow on it. The wandering foxbat channel has some great videos of him flying over the mountains etc. Worth a look.

      Yeah I've seen quite a few of his videos! And I seem to recall watching a light aircraft fly over us that day! Was September 28 the day you were up there?

      @@LucasChamberlain Haha not surprised! Yes September 28th. Would have been around 2.30pm ish in the arvo. Flew up past mount Roland and black bluff to cradle and barn bluff, then right back over to black bluff again before heading back to Wynyard. Got a real good view on black bluff on the way back.

    Enjoying this series of videos mate. I'd definitely heard of the trail being from Ulverstone and it's great to see it in the videos you've made of the walk.

    A long but awesome day for you both. That snow looked slow going. A great location for a camp but didn't expect you to have internet connection. Another great video.

      Thanks! Yes it was a bit of a surprise to have coverage there, given it was semi sheltered. I certainly wasn't complaining though!

    Thank you Lucas. Another days hike another beautiful video presentation. Snow is always prettier to look at than walk through it. Those camp sites look great.( better than my backyard in Melbourne atm )

      Thanks and no worries! Yeah I know what you mean, it's beautiful to look at, but ploughing through it is very draining.

      Yeah despite the struggles in the snow, I do look back fondly on most of this day of walking. 🙂 It was definitely a great place to set up camp for the night. 👍

    amazing series so far lucas! have you ever had to set your tent up on snow before? just wondering if it would melt through the tent bottom or not?
    any tips on snow camping if you have done it.
    cheers!

    • @LucasChamberlain
      @LucasChamberlain  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks mate! No I haven't actually set up a tent in snow before, which I put down to umpiring (as a result, no real time for multiday winter walks in snow).
      I don't think it would seep through into the inner, unless the hydrostatic head rating is very low. But yeah, I'm not actually sure, as I've only ever packed up with snow around, not setting up.
