    Frank Sinatra, born December 12, 1915, was only 31 years old when this program was broadcast. Johnny Mercer was born November 18, 1909 and was 37 years old and has already composed many great songs..

      This was the fourth in a series of annual Music For The Wounded benefit concerts held at the Hollywood Bowl. The concerts consisted of classical and popular music as well as comedy acts. It's likely, given the cause (raising funds for the wounded veterans of World War II), that all of the concerts were sold out.

    Interesting points he was making here about the low quality of pop songs being partly because all the good writers were "doing picture scores" and Broadway. Back then many of the great songs came from Broadway and the movies, rather than simply being a "pop" song, so different from today
