    I always wondered, if your carb is an appropriate size for your engine- why are there differences in fuel economy between say a 32/36 and a 38 DGAS? If you drive normally, shouldnt the carb only give the engine what it is asking for and that determines the economy?

    • @carburettorrebuildservice8964
      @carburettorrebuildservice8964 Před měsícem

      hi, thanks for watching my videos, it all depends on the setup, in other words, the main jets, air correction jets, emulsion tubes, auxiliary venturies and the float level. you can have the correct size carb on a engine and be using load of fuel because the main jets are to large.

    Hi just looking for some advice. I have just fitted a 32/36 webber to a 1600 twin port beetle. I made my own non restrictive manifold , from head to head. I appears to be too rich on the first stage and too lean on the second. The first stage is terribly agressive compared to to solex. Idle mixture out 3 to 4 turns , to run smooth , but ten causing a popping back fire, upon acelleration. Second stage. works initiallly but flat spots out on the road, will run with a back off and second application. Looking for suggestions for jets etc.

    • @carburettorrebuildservice8964
      @carburettorrebuildservice8964 Před měsícem

      if you have to turn the mixture screw out that much it indicated that your idle jet is to small, try one size up and see what it does.I dont have a jet chart for your carb on a beatke but this is for a 36 DCD weber on your engine - VW 1600 BEETLE venturies 23/24 main jets 110/120 Idle 45 air correction 190/180 - I would try 130 mains on first and second choke and i would use a 50 idle.

    In my experience with these, close attention needs to be paid to sealing the float window. I’m not sure quite how, I’ve just had to keep gently tightening the screws when it starts leaking again, but the reason the metal bracket you have is bent from over tightening is because these are very, very prone to fuel leakage around that rubber seal. The factory installed carb on my car had one of the ears that the bolts thread into broken off by some poor, frustrated sod absolutely cranking the screws in just to make the bloody thing seal. Had to buy new carb bodies and try and make one good carb out of 3! Also what you pointed to as the electronic choke at the start is actually a fuel cutoff solenoid for automatic/emissions controlled models.

      @carburettorrebuildservice8964 Před měsícem

      Hi, thanks for watching my video's, you are correct, it is not the choke but an anti dieseling device. thanks for pointing that out. Regarding the float glass, 10.49 min into the video a explain hoe to straighten the carb casing that was bent by guys over tightening it and 32.32 into the video i explain how to correctly reinstall the float bowl glass.

    Hi Gert, the 32/36 DGEV on a larger 3.3L engine- is it possible that the power valve might struggle to open normally due to high engine vacuum and as such larger jets will need to be installed? Chasing a bad fuel economy issue that I've emailed you about but just had this thought.

    • @carburettorrebuildservice8964
      @carburettorrebuildservice8964 Před 2 měsíci

      It is a unusual situation, i have never put a 32/36 on a larger motor, i always use a 36 dcd or 38 DGAS for that.the only two fuel enrichment system that cause cause a high fuel usage is the carb power valve in the float bowl and the calibrated bush in the carb top, drawing fuel from the float bowl. the 32/36 only has one. what emulsion tubes are you using, if you use F6 you can probably get away with using smaller main jets without a flat spot.

      @carburettorrebuildservice8964 Před 2 měsíci

      Hi, thanks for watching my videos, much appreciated. Please watch the video to the end for clarity. In the application that i have explained, we use a carburetor that was designed by the engineers for a large cc engine (1600-2300cc) on a small 1400cc engine and as a result the the calibrated bushes fitted to the carburetor is to large for our small engines and as a result over fuels. in some cases so bad that the engine stutters. That is the reason we block it off in some applications. We have over the years tunes it into a fine art. We also monitor the air/fuel mixtures with a gauge fitted in the car.
