From memory I extended it 2 inches to make it 9 inches as the stock is about 5 inches I believe. Even with my stock set up I probably could have gone another 1-2 inches without it looking too weird, so I’m sure you would be able to go 4. Even prop the bike up on something so it’s sitting and the angle you want it and measure out how far the kickstand is off the ground and work from there.

As far as extended stands go, '89 to '03 XLH stands are longer than Rubbermount ('04 on) ones. My '06 Roadster now has a1'' extended for a pre-rubbermount Sporty as I fitted 340mm shocks on the rear and Trackerdie extended dampertubes on the forks raising the whole bike. There are many different lengths for rubbermounts - the longest was for the'04 to '06 Roadsters(my bike) but it wasn't long enough -reckonI might just make one myself after seeing your vid as the extended '89 to'03 is stilla bit short. If you haven't found out by now, that top surface material is not ideal if you spill any liquid on it. It appears to be medium density fiberboard, aka MDF. Also known as Medite. Even a few drops will erupt into blisters and leave that spot a bit weaker. I would suggest a few coats of paint; something you might use for wood decks or stairs. And, it has no directional strength. You really should have used a decent grade of plywood.

    • @thewhiskythrottleclub

Thank you. Unfortunately I have moved on from the 500 and onto a Sportster, but the 500 was a great bike!

can't wait for a rainy day? keys rubbing on wires woo hoowa. the weirdest bike death yet.

You’re not wrong. I’m glad the spark plug wires are rubber and the kill switch is on the handlebars, otherwise I would be in trouble for sure!

@thewhiskythrottleclub have you never seen sparkplug wires ark? I've seen brand new ones throw an ark at the cap. Also a coul and capacitor have the ability to store energy and even get energy from atmosphere. Its a risk i wouldn't take but you do you. i would have at the very least turned the coil wires down instead of up.

Nah I haven’t seen that to be honest. Yeah I’m on the hunt for some different boots so I can swap them around.

@thewhiskythrottleclub i urge you to look under the hood of an old car at night while its running. If the wire makes contact with anything metal and has for a while you'll see it. I worked in high line power for a long time and watch guys who trusted in rubber die. water is a terrible conductor but the shit thats in it will kill you when electric passes though it. like i said you do you but im almost 60 now, never had a guy die on any of my crews but i requested or should i say pulled bodies out many times.

nothing like getting shocked with 100,000 volts when reaching down to turn off the bike.

I will admit, it’s in a bit of an awkward position but I think changing the boots around on the spark plug wires will make a big difference.

Being as a lead will carry up too 45.000v which is less than half of your 100,000. And is covered in a very thick rubber coating too prevent the voltage from jumping. I think you'll be fine.

100%. Plus it’s only sparking after I have hit the run switch, which is no where near the spark plugs.
