More on Curt here!
Curt Bisquera started out touring live with bands like Morris Day and the Time, where he perfected the impossibly difficult groove on “777-9311.” From there, he went onto studio success by playing on hits like Bonnie Raitt’s “Something To Talk About.” Shortly thereafter, Curt joined Mick Jagger to record his Wandering Spirit album, touring afterward in support. Curt’s career only continued to soar from there.
He’s played drums on many incredible albums, like Tom Petty’s soundtrack for She’s The One. Curt’s also played on movie soundtracks produced by Hans Zimmer, even having joined Vinnie Colaiuta and John Robinson on a drum-centric recording for a Jason Bourne movie soundtrack.
While this studio work makes for one impressive drumming resume on its own, Curt’s live performances are just as incredible. He’s played Madison Square Garden with Elton John, performing alongside legendary drummer Nigel Olsson. He’s gone around the world with France’s largest grossing artist, Johnny Hallyday. And he’s joined countless other chart-topping musicians on the road too.

Pro Drummers SWEAR By Six Lug Snare Drums...But Why?
zhlédnutí 16KPřed 6 měsíci
When you think of professional snares, you probably think they have ten lugs, right? If it's good enough for top-of-the-line drums from Tama, Pearl, Ludwig, and the rest of the big manufacturers, then it's gotta be the best, right? I'd like to challenge that idea today and show you what you can do with a solid six-lug snare (even if it was the snare that eight year old kids used in the 1960s)! ...

I had steel Mastercraft and WISH I had never sold it. I got the drum with a 5 piece pewter Imperialstar set from around 1982.
Yeah, those were really great drums - the snare and the kit. And what's crazy is that even 10 years ago, in the US, you could still pick those kits up with the snares for a few hundred bucks. People just weren't hip to them!
when did Frank Black start playing drums and doing drum review uploads on YT ??
😂😂😂
If I’m correct they use Keller shells
They had these proprietary shells manufactured by Keller for the first run or two. Today, they use another shell manufacturer (there’s really only one other one, so that’ll limit your options). 😂😂
Six lug snares are awesome. To me they 'feel' better to play. Actually, most of my vintage snares are six luggers. Not only do the old WFL/Trans Badge 3-ply snares sound awesome - but the early 1920's nickel over brass snares are insane with 6 lugs. They sound way bigger than they look. My favorites are my late '40's WFL 3-ply with 6 lugs that is a 6.5x14, but actually measures about 6.7x14 - and with brass hoops - so much tone and body. The other is the Ludwig 1920 6-lug nickel over brass 2-pc shell.
You've got some really great drums in your collection! And I totally agree with the sentiment that they feel comfy to play. That's a great way to think about it!
@@timbofromkeno Maybe one day I'll get some proper mics :)

@@JackNiles That would be wild. Dave recently reached out to me and I made some content for a video he's working on . Fingers crossed he includes it in his video in the near future!
@@timbofromkeno How many snare drums does it take for my girlfriend to breakup?
@@JackNiles LOL
Great video. If only we could afford them.
Give it ten years. I think the vintage drum market will likely crash (and probably start doing so as soon as five years from now), and that'll give us all a chance to own some dream drums! : )
Question: Whats the difference between a Black Beauty and a Super? One is black nickle over brass and the other is chrome? What are the other differences? Shell thinkness? Magic vs ????
There's definitely some magic involved. lol They didn't start making the modern Black Beauty snares until the late 70s, so there's definitely some differences in the machining. And the COB Super 400 shell has a crimped snare bed, which seems to really affect the sound of that snare. Another big difference is the hoop style. The Super 400 has 1.6 mm COB hoops top and bottom, and that makes a HUGE difference with the tone. My newer Black Beauty had diecast hoops on it when I got it, but I put cheapy steel 1.6 mm hoops. They just let the snare resonate in a way that's a little more preferable to me. I think that's honestly about it. Hope that helps shed a little light on this stuff! : )

Each cymbals will sound different especially when they're hand hammerred different of the USA companies they're machine hammered I personally prefer hand hammerred love Turkish cymbals now the Master Murat Diríl it's using Bronze ( B) 27 his cymbals are high end with an unique sound.
Hey Uzziel! Yes, I like handmade cymbals too. I think there is something special about that. And Diril makes some incredible stuff. I know there are a few manufacturers who make high tin content cymbals in the B25 (25% tin) range, but I don't know if anyone is doing anything higher than what Diril does. So so interesting!
@@timbofromkenoMurat Diríl it's a cymbal god that person knows his stuff and has produce and created many cymbals models of the known companies. He's know it's building with Bronze 27 and the quality and sound it's impressive the beauty you can custom made them in term on weight finish , logo etc . I've been contacted and the prices he had provide was tremendously low , I used to be Diríl Cymbals distribuitor for years and I learned about cymbals along the way. Thank you for always make this amazing videos.
I dont think i ever saw a matching r.c. snare like that.(red) most were steel.back then anyway... Pretty sweet. I have a 90's r.c. kit. That i ordered in 91 ish. Still in love with them. Im only 2 hrs from u (Near the valley). Cool video . I always stuck with remo pins on it but recently tried a evans eq3 frosted on the b.d. (22×18) holy hell! Its like a whole new drum...fell back in love with it all over again. May switch batters soon.....any suggestions?
Hey! Yeah, that wood snare is so so special. Such a great drum. And with the tom batters, if you're into more of a mid- and low end-heavy sound, I really like the Evans Onyx top and bottom. But if you're looking for something like a Pinstripe, but just more modern, you should definitely try the Evans EC2S Frosted heads on top. They're awesome!
I got one of those olympics from a rehearsal room for £50... it has 7 snare wires on it & sounds insane, in the best way!... amazing drum! Premier are fantastic!
They have tremendous body to them, so I would assume that quality only multiplies with less wires. I'll bet it sounds huge. So cool!
How about a versus video. Most expensive Ludwig versus cb700 or cheap Amazon snare drum etc. or Supraphonic versus the hum of a refrigerator sample or kitchen blender. 😂hahaha
LOL I love that idea. I'll queue it up!

I have a premier xpk fusion set from 99. Still love it, still sounds great. Premier as a company had issues with staying in business throughout it's history. That inconsistency is probably why, especially in America, we dont hear much about those drums.
Possibly! Though, I’m glad brands like British Drum Co. are rising in popularity. I hear nothing but good things about that stuff!

This is definitely an American experience. Many of the baby boomers had schools FULL of Acrolites and often with a pile of Supraphonics too. They were beyond plentiful and so so cheap for a long time!
Tons of acrolites on ebay for $60 around 2011. Ive always wanted a 6.5 blacrolite, but those were pricier at the time. So I slept on 'em. Wish I hadn't.
In Britain anything from Ludwig secondhand is like gold dust only ever had a Ludwig Gold sparkle 4piece tryde to keep it but had to give it back to the store as it was only on loan ,wish I had money to buy it back then 35 years ago Thanks God Bless all you drummers out there AMEN💛🧡❤️💜💛🧡❤️🌞🌜🌟🌎🙏🌼🌸🌳🌴☺️

They're incredible drums. I gotta find one of my own some day! And thanks for the kind words!!
2:44 <-- interesting to know. It depends on friction. if tension increases it - sure, that helps - if it doesn't, then it's worse, and more tension means more loosening of something without much decent friction.
With this old stuff and the 50 to 75 years of gunk in 'em, you certainly get some friction! haha
GREAT SNARE WELL PLAYED ENOUGH SAID
Thanks Michael!
Some swear by them, others swear at them. I had pioneer 6 lug, jazzfest 8 lug, and equiv shell in 10 lug. 8 is happy medium for me. 6 too sloppy floppy, which can be cool for certain vintage styles but thats about it
lol I love that first sentence. I’m gonna quote you on that moving forward. 😂😂😂 But I totally agree on eight lug snares. I feel the same way as you!
@@timbofromkeno Ha yeah that is an original line I just came up with right now. I turned to 8 after never being able to get a decent more vintage tone with 10 lugs, which to me just sound too clean and controlled, too professional precise. I like 60s 70s music best, not 80s to modern, unless it's modern groups doing vintage styled music, which is a big thing in many genres more lately. They seem to either go w/ 6 or 8 or pull a ringo by placing a tea towel over it.
BTw I like your dumming and style and tuning. But no wood snare drum is going to get my Supraphonic off a gig for it.
Thanks for the kind words. I really love my Supras too. Good stuff!
Camco endorsed me in Los Angeles.1979 I have a 7 piece 24" down to 12". Camco LOs Angeles badges. These drums slay any DW you bring. I mean any over priced DW you want.
Camco LA shells are the stuff of legends. I've owned Oak Lawn and Chanute Camco kits, but never an LA kit. I'd love to get my hands on one some day.
The snare shown in the video appears to be a yd-9000 manufactured between 1984 and the first half of 1985. From the second half of 1985, the name was changed to recording custom, and the design of the hoop and snappy guards changed.
Thanks for the insight! : )
I was curious, thanks. When i ordered my kit there wasnt an option for matching snares. Only steel in the r.c.'s (1991-92) ...been looking for an older r.c. snare since i had several snares when i ordered i just got the steel r.c. 14×5:" i believe, but traded it for a Tama piccolo....opps.
