Handshake Drums out of Ohio is making some of the most beautiful new snares on the market. Today, we're going to take a look at 13x7" Salesman Sample and 14x6" Tequila Sunrise 1/2" maple stave snare drums. Each comes equipped with eight lugs and 30 degree/roundover edges, Evans drumheads, and Sonique Drums NATO-1 strainers. Visually, these drums are stunning. And sonically, they produce some really interesting tones too. Check it out!

The man behind Handshake Drums already paints and finishes for your favorite drum makers and drummers alike - from C&C Drum Company to drummers like Mario Calire (famously drummer for The Wallflowers and recently with Jewel). Whether you've got a Tama or Yamaha snare that you want to add a little visual spice to OR if you're working with a custom drum company like SJC Drums or getting a Gretsch USA Custom drum set, connect with Handshake Drums to get your set looking as good as it sounds. A one-of-a-kind look will turn heads when you're drumming on the weekends and keep you smiling when you see it in your home studio!
Alongside the snares, I've used a 1987 Yamaha Recording Custom kit in Hot Red finish that has Evans heads top and bottom. I've also got Turkish Cymbals going here too - 15" Millennium hats, 20" Meta Crash, 22" Millennium Ride, and a 24" Prototype Special Dry Extra Thin Ride.
Audio was captured with two Universal Audio Apollo x8p interfaces using 1073 preamp modeling. Mics include:
    - SE Electronics V-Kick (Kick In) - Beyer Dynamic Opus 65 (Kick Out)
    - Shure Unidyne III SM57 (Snare Top)
    - Rode NT55 w/ Cardioid Capsule (Snare Top)
    - Audio-Technica ATM650 (Snare Bottom)
    - Sennheiser MD-421 (Each Tom)
    - AKG C414 TLII Pair (Overheads)
    - Apex 210B Ribbon into Soyuz Launcher (Room)
    - Shure 588SB (Vocal)
I use Logic Pro X, Waves Audio plugins, and I enjoy consuming salted potato chips.
And that cool mic cable? It comes from Sorry Cables in LA. - www.sorrycables.com/

Great stuff again Timbo, I’d buy that snare just so I could tell people the ‘salesman’ finish story 👍🏼

i'm quite sure (but not 100% sure) the Ludwig salesmen used small sheets of samples bound together with a small chain passing in holes pierced through each single sheet (and not an actual drum) and when someone at Ludwig came out with such a wrap they called it that way because it resembled the samples kept together in that way.
    Great looking drums BTW!!!!!!

They also had those wrap samples, but if you google “Ludwig Salesman Sample drum,” you’ll find several examples of drums containing many wraps to accomplish the same purpose. They’re much rarer, but they’re wonderful looking pieces of history. The drummer from The Black Keys famously plays an official reissue of the wrap from Ludwig too. : )

Now dats-a spicy couple-a snare drums!! Gives off a custom order vibe. That throw off may need to go to Weenie Hut General though...idk I just like to be able to twist the tension on the wires

Lol I totally understand the apprehension with the stainer. I tend to use an Inde universal throw more often than not for that reason!
