I have a Walther pq 22 waiting at my FFL.I got a pretty good deal ($214 otd) and the Walther name sold me. I've never fired a 22 cal but decided to buy one to save on range ammo as 9 mm gets pricey. Thing is I'm a relatively new shooter at 68, so I depend on reviews like this.I hope I have better luck with ammo,as some say it is brand specific, then some say theirs eats anything.I hope I fall into the latter category. Also I've heard that Walther has ironed out many of the FTF issues inherent to the P22,with the newer PPQ model.Good luck.
Thanks for sharing. Go Navy! I'm carrying my Taurus 856 at this moment.
Go Navy! Thanks for watching. It’s so comfortable even without a holster, just in my pocket. But a leather holster completes its so well. 👍🇺🇸
@@FirstNatureBackland I'm carrying my Taurus 856 in a leather holster at this moment.
Gun shops don't show this firearm to new females because Walther doesn't pay off gun stores like Glock and S&W
Excellent point! Incentivized sales is a part of the industry.

Could you please recommend where I can purchase the vertical grip and slide
I don’t have a vertical fore grip or an aftermaket pump. So I cannot make an honest recommendation on either. But there are multiple options online.
Maddy’s a little camera shy! Great job on leveling her up from a 22. Great video!
Just got the ruger max 9. Solid. My wife loves it also.ty for this video.
I'm getting up in years and I have been shooting 55 years, revolvers and service automatics. I got my first Micro 9mm and it was like what the hell! I actually had to use technique to comfortably rack the slide because it was about 35Lbs or more of effort, but I'm sure it's +P rated. Like lifting a fallen over motorcycle, technique can help but a beginner should start out with a light motorcycle in my opinion. Another 20 years and my carry pistol might be my plinker, at least it will be well known.
Yes sir, there are some great micro 9mm pistols out there, but they all give the perception that they are “easy” to load, “easy” to fire, “easy” to handle. And while that might not be difficult for some, it is not “as easy” as it is in a larger platform, just due too its size. Similar to lifting something that is 50lbs and the size of a shoebox versus something 50lbs and the size of a sofa. The size alone makes it difficult and awkward to handle, dare I say unsafe. Like you said, technique must then be more closely examined and carefully focused on just to prevent a back injury. All because of its size. Great comment and thank you for watching!
Q: primer sizes for each?
To Commiefornia you mean.
I recently took my neighbor lady to the range. Her husband bought her a .22 revolver single action, no hammer. She cannot pull the trigger without the gun being nowhere on target. She tried my P22 and was able to rack it and at least put all shots on an 8 x11 target. She did start to get closer to center as she got used to it. My P22 is a little fussy. I have polished the ramp and the hammer. The suggestion is that choice of ammo should be greater than 1200 plus out of a rifle. I use Federal Punch for my EDC. Good ammo. Spendy but then again so is 9MM. I really like CCI minimags. Using hollow points makes no difference in my mind. If I find a deal on CCI minimags and hollow point, I will use them. I have found that all .22 ammo is not the same so I don't expect my guns to cycle everything.
Good on you for showing her another option. Yes P22s can be very picking on ammo. I prefer the CCi minimags too. Blazer aluminum usually works for me too but not from the bulk boxes. Thanks for commenting and watching!
A single action gun with no hammer is a no action gun. 😜
I have a LC9 and think the Max addresses the trigger pull, plastic rod and adds 3 rounds. Will say Ruger is a top notch company. They pinned the front sight (loose) and replaced the plastic rod (slightly bent causing the slide not to go into battery). Both at no charge. I’m local as well (Elk Grove).
I’ve never fired the LC9 but I know it’s a popular choice. I really like Ruger as well. I have the PC9 carbine with a Vortex Crossfire II red-dot. I plan on doing a video soon. Plus they are made in Prescott, Arizona. I lived in AZ a long time and I love that town. Elk Grove has grown a lot. I want to check out that new casino out there. Thanks for commenting and watching!
My p22 only cycles with cci
How's the p22ca feed federal target grade 22 bulk? Can any one comment on that

I’d like to get one, but I’ve heard that folks have feed issues with the KS7. Have you had any serious issues with it?
0 feed issues. I’ve also seen some people have serious malfunctions. But I have not had one, and I’ve never cleaned it. It’s had about 300 rounds through it since I bought it in 2020. That number is bound to increase now that it’s more comfortable to shoot.
I just was thinking you look familiar you said you're from citrus heights and that's where i am. Thats so funny lol

The federal TSS were made for the Carlson's Heavyweight TSS turkey choke that has a .640 constriction. I want to try a Primo's Jelly Head and Tight Wad. Thanks for the test on the tight wad. I currently use the the Carlson on my Tristar Viper max and I use the Cabela's Black Maxx .665 constriction on my JTS EG200. I do use the Federal TSS #9 with the Carlson and I use Winchester Long Beards on my Black Maxx.
Nice. Every time I see Win Ling Beard I want to pick some up, but I can’t use it in CA. If there is a tungsten version I haven’t seen one. I plan on picking up the Carlson Heavyweight for next season. I can’t wait to try it out. Thanks!

I just took my KS7 to the range and after 30 slugs I have the deepest bruise ever. I never bruise and if I did you couldn’t see it. KS7 killed my shoulder. Can’t wait to order this recoil pad.

Nic navy pictures I was in the navy 87 to 91 and the max 9 is my cc now over my p365 feels better in the hand and more accurate
I like the Max 9 over the P365 too. I shot the Sig P365 once. I didn’t like the feel. The grip to me felt too thin. The Max 9 fits much better in my hand. I served 2011 - 2018, ET2. Thanks for your service and for watching, brother.
Despite the efforts of many manufacturers in developing an specific .22lr ammunition for self defense, I still rely on the so proven, time tested, CCI Target Mini-Mag 22 LR 40 Grain on pistols and revolvers. Yes, I am among those who believe .22LR could be used by civilizians in self defense situations. As somebody once said, the minimum caliber for self defense is the largest one the person can handle at its best. Kindest regards from Brasil.
Fun fact, the additional front sites are not backups in case the front site falls off; they are for different ranges so that you can have some elevation adjustment. Also, DO NOT try to run Winchester .22 LR in this gun. I just bought one and I like it but it does not like Winchester ammo. I shot about 100 rounds the first time I took it out and I had a jam of some sort in just about every magazine
Was it bulk? I think you could weigh bulk ammo on an accurate scale and the heavy ones will be fine and the light ones will be underpowered. If the ammo has sat for a few years and suitably boxed, you can rap it on the table a few times to fluff up the powder and prevent squibs because the priming on a rimfire it's that powerful.
@robertkubrick3738 interesting. Yes, it was a box of 500, all the rounds just loose in there. About 60% of the jams were caused by underpowered rounds, and 40% were light strikes
@@ProductBasement Ammo in the 100 round or 50 round plastic boxes with each round individual, or bulk placed in an empty 50-100 box, bang them on a table a couple times. Or just old ammo. The powder can clump. Or some of it is just inconsistent ammo but taking out a variable can help. I learned this watching a video of a guy shooting Winchester brand and he had squibs that were barely making it out of a rifle and he cured it by banging the ammo on a table. He still had a couple that might have been a little underpowered but no outright squibs.
Hevi-x strut Hevi-metal. Those are about the only other types of shells you can use that are better than steel alternatives a little different than what you have here. And i believe both are cheaper than the magnum blend by a decent amount. Obviously there are other brands that load bismuth, and other heavier-than-steel waterfowl loads that you could try. But basically covers the majority.
I’ve been curious about trying waterfowl loads for turkey, but I’d hate to waste a shot and injure a bird. I’m certain it’s been done before though. Hunters of generations past didn’t have heavy tungsten loads. Lead loads are out of the question in CA but interestingly they are still sold in stores. 🤔 thanks!
That gun is a total piece of shit . I regretfully own one. He blames the ammo on the failures to feed and eject. BULLSHIT. I have other .22’s that have zero failures with the same box of ammo. I’ll meet anyone at the range to prove it.
Every gun is different. I attributed the FTFs and FTEs to the gun being dirty. But it sounds like your other 22s shoot great. 👍. Too bad you didn’t name the models. But again, your “others” may like all the ammo in this video. 👍. Well mine doesn’t perform well with Aguila. It never has. You see, guns tend to be that way. Even two guns of the same model may shoot the same box of ammo differently. Gun people know this.
I agree, I have a Walther P22 it shoots good, most of my FTE or FTF are on Federal Match Ammo. Me and my cousin both have same year manufactured (1979) Marlin model 60, mine absolutely hates Winchester, but shoots Federal flawlessly. His hates Federal and CCI and Remington, but will rapid fire Winchester without a single malfunction. Guns are like people, what one person likes to eat, another cant eat it.
@@FirstNatureBackland the “others” are the Ruger sr22 and mark 4
@@chrisburnsed6349 When you get 10k rounds through them, they seem to become less finicky. When I get a new pistol I usually sit and watch a movie and rack the slide or bolt for two hours about as fast as I can. This simulates thousands of rounds of firing and I don't have to clean them or waste ammo to get them smooth as I want them. If you take the slide off and catch the hammer not letting it hit the frame you can wear in the sear engagement, resetting and pulling the trigger several thousand times.
A .22LR is also good choice if you want to spend a lot more time at the range. .22LR is cheap compared to larger calibers. I also like the DA/SA system of the P22Q. A hundred round day at the range is going to cost you $25 to $35 for higher caliber ammo. .22LR runs anywhere from a third to half that of the larger calibers like 9mm. I've seen it occasionally online bulk at 5-6 cents/round but usually around 7-8 cents/round. If you want to really up your game to 400+ rounds a month, well, you can do the math. BTW - I tried ARMSCOR in my Walther WMP and didn't like it - it kept peppering my face with blowback bits. Otherwise, it cycled fine. I'll try it again in the P22 and see what I think. It is quite a bit cheaper than the other brands.
Well put. It is significantly easier on the wallet. I’ve never experienced blowback like that from any brand. That sucks. Thanks for watching.
Just a PERFECT EXAMPLE of how the state is GOVERNERD...!!! "TRASH"
Thx for the video. I have bought from Mike in the past. Good guy. I was wondering can you add additional sights to this Ruger? Thx
Fantastic! Yeah Mike, owner of American Tactical Firearms is a good guy. Unfortunately, I heard through a friend, that this might be his last year in business. His business is falling victim to California’s SB1384. Unfortunately the CA version of the Max 9 does not accept red dot sights due to the loaded chamber indicator. At least not at the moment. The front and rear sights can be replaced. Maybe someone will develop a red dot that can replace the rear sight?

You are welcome! 🙏
You don't have a trailer brake controller either.
Nope. Good eye. I ordered that after buying the truck. It took about 6 months to arrive, but it’s on there now.
Sacramento black rifle just got some in, looks like a great first handgun for my girlfriend thanks for the tips and great video !
Thank you! Just remember to clean it after a range session. It will likely have to be you. In my travels I’ve known 0 female gun owners who clean their guns. Not to knock the ladies. Just think how many women you know who change their own oil. They are out there, somewhere. Personally I’ve known 1.
I was just in that store, and they had 6. The guy looking at one at the counter was talked out of it by the store employee . Even they know that gun is crap. He said he couldn’t sleep at night and recommend the gun. That came from the store employee who sells it.
It’s interesting why they would have 6 guns in stock that they “don’t recommend” because they “know are crap”. 🤔 hmm, 6 guns that they don’t want to sell? That’s a fantastic way to run a business. Or, you are full of 💩. Stop trolling my viewers.
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Did the grips reduce recoil I love mine but when I shoot It the oem grips grooves dig into my hand
No the OEM grips were comfortable. I just don’t like the feel of rubber and I wanted a classic detective look. Thanks.
Interesting the Aguilas gave trouble, others said they were good. But then everyone says don’t buy bulk packs, but Aguilas often come in bulk pack. Strange.
Yeah most of our issues that day were due to the gun being dirty as mentioned towards the end. But I have had problems with Aguila out of that gun before. To your point, they were from bricks. But my Rossi 22 shoots them just fine. Hey that’s guns for ya. Thanks for watching.
Wow. That’s Cali I wouldn’t have guessed with all the tree huggers Your right!! That makes us all look bad. You should post a clean up day. And see who shows. You can also use a realtor sign frame or a political one. I just collapse a box and tape it on. My range uses tire backstops. Try to tape dirty rubber!!! I might try the Kent also. I have an 1187 with a turkey rem choke.
A clean up day is good idea. I’ll reach out to the forest service to see about closing that road for a clean up day. There are dozens of spots just off that one road that look like that. I use boxes too. I’m just a sucker for simple and effective innovations. Thanks for supporting!
Good advise
I'm a Stevens 301 in 410 turkey hunter. Sumtoy scope mount, Burris Fastfire red dot, Comp N Choke 390 constricton turkey choke. Viper and or Verdict 3" TSS 9.5s. 1 ounce loads. tagged out last spring here in Missouri with it and plan to again next month as well. Deadly out to 40+ yards easily. TSS is an absolute game changer in the sub guage turkey load game.
I’ve seen more and more folks using 410. I personally don’t know anyone who uses one. But I know some folks swear by it for turkey. 9.5 seems small but that makes sense if you are using a 410 with a choke like that. I need to get a red dot to complete my setup. I’m going to check out the Burris. Good luck this season!
@@FirstNatureBackland you too man. I switched my mount from a Sumtoy to the EGW and it's better made in my opinion. You can't go wrong with a Burris Fastfire.
So it’s safe to assume, you must use hollow points for self defense with the P22?
Thanks for asking. I don’t use this for self defense. But I do keep it loaded in my safe with CCi Stingers.
