Everything You Need to Know About Nose Jobs - Part 1 - Beauty and the Surgeon Episode 173
It’s been a while since we talked about rhinoplasty (aka: nose jobs). Well now we’re going to tell you everything you need to know. Who’s a good candidate for a nose job? What are the different types of nose jobs? How do I choose a surgeon? Rhinoplasties are highly specialized surgeries and it’s very important you are well informed before taking this big step in your life.
Questions to ask your surgeon:
Are you certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?
Am I a good candidate for this procedure?
What surgical technique is recommended for me?
Where and how will you perform my surgery?
What are the risks and potential complications with a cosmetic rhinoplasty?
How are complications handled?
How can I expect my nose to look/age over time?
Comments, questions, clarifications? Leave a voicemail 303-630-9038

    Enjoy the educational videos so much. Thank you for these. I am planning for an abdominoplasty after 1 child 21 years ago and definitely have rectus diastasis. I have not sought treatment for this as far as physical therapy or else. It sounds like you both feel there is nothing that can really be done in the way of strengthening to get this to narrow and that surgery is the only way to definitively take care of it. I do follow a fitness and nutrition coach that offers a video of how to close the gap with pelvic floor and ab muscle strengthening (pelvic tilt, pelvic tilt with marching, bridge with mini-band around thigh, quadruped on hands & knees with pelvic tilt and side plank - all are performed on the floor.). I know Amy said sit-ups aren’t good with rectus diastasis so I’m staying away from those. I did see you last March for a consult and have a history of a laparotomy 28 years ago. Long story short, I will have to wait to have this procedure for a while due to just starting a new job, so, is it worth trying these exercises in the meantime or will I do more damage than it’s worth?

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před 15 dny

      Hi Stephanie! Amy here :) Yes, I do think there is a benefit to be had by integrating pelvic floor and core exercises into your routine. It won't repair your diastasis but is great for overall core strength and stability.

    I had breast augmentation surgery in 2001, from day one I could not function normally. I had constant pain for years. Most cosmetic surgeon's would not even talk about removal. I had surgery in 2020 to remove implants and do breast lift. I still have uneven breasts and they are still too big. Why would any doctor not do what you both agreed on and then when you wake up from surgery you still didn't get what you paid for or asked for. I just can't understand. I have had psoriasis for 30 years and psoriatic arthritis for about 10 years. I have been on MTX for the last 12 years. What are the main risks factors or complications for me? Can the potential risk/complications be managed or avoided and how?

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před měsícem

      Thanks for watching! The main risk factor with MTX immunosuppressant is the potential for an increase in post operative complications, mainly infection and or slow/nonhealing wounds. This is of course weighed against the possibility of a flair if you were to discontinue the medication. We recommend discussing your surgical plans with your primary care provider and plastic surgeon to plan for dosing around the time of surgery. In most cases, you can time your injections to minimize risks of complications while still minimizing your risk of a flair.

    How can I determine if I can benefit most from the FDL panni? I have 2 surgeons who stated it's not worth the scar for me but I already have "the" scar from a previous surgery. I do have loose skin above belly button. My surgeon suggested relocating belly button only.

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před měsícem

      Thanks for watching! In most cases, skin laxity above and below the belly button can be addressed with a traditional tummy tuck. A fleur-de-lis is typically only needed when there is an extreme amount of loose skin vertically above the belly button and hanging skin below the belly button. It's always worth seeking a second (or third) opinion from a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and the best treatment plan for you.

    Hi Dr. I’m curious how a patient would know if she or he “ripped” out a muscle wall repair stitch? Is it common? I’m in anxiety hell worried that my localized pain during movement in upper left-midline is due to me compromising my repair stitches. I’m 4 weeks out.

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před měsícem

      Hi Sittowardi, thanks for watching! This is common concern after surgery. It is very unlikely that you can/would tear through your muscle repair. You would have to do something very rapid with extreme force and/or extension of the abdominal wall, that would also be very painful and followed by an increase in swelling and even bruising in the area. Pain or discomfort with moving is common and normal following surgery and good reminder to be gentle and not push past the point of pain.

    Heyyyy! This is Amy from Oklahoma! Thank you for answering my questions!y’all! I’m famous!!!!! 😂. Dr Martin - I did lose my weight using tirzepitide. I reached goal weight in August, and have maintained on my own without medications since December. It’s been a life changer. I started working out for the first time in decades - first with Bungee fitness and now I also do incline walking on my treadmill (10% incline) 6 days a week with some light weight lifting in an attempt to get my booty back. 😊 My board certified plastic surgeon no longer does thigh lifts because of his back. He’s actually retiring at the end of the year which is sad. He’s pretty young to be retiring. I will wait and see if I still want one a year from now. Thank you again for answering my questions! My gastroenterologist appt is set for a follow up and I’ll get with him on all of this also, like you suggested. 😊

      Hi Amy! Thank you so much for the voicemail! Congratulations on your weight loss and health journey! Incline walking is a great workout and will help with the laxity on your thighs as will weight lifting. Getting your GI doc on board will make for a smooth recovery!

    Hi Amy, I asked my B.C.P.S. for pictures of his before and after breast aug/lifts and the only photos I've received are side views. I've asked for front views, and they've stated that they'll have to get with the doctor to get them...and I also requested pictures of LBL and haven't gotten them yet...I know that spring break is causing a delay, but my confidence is waning. Any advice on how to proceed with getting the information from them? Should I express my apprehension?

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Jeni, you should denfinetly see all views of the before and after pictures, not just the side. In our office we do not send patient pictures, we schedule screenshare appointments to be able to show you pictures but also discuss them with you. It's important to understand if you can expect similar results to the pictures you are seeing, and if not how your results may be different. Pictures alone do not tell the whole story. Hope you've been able to see some additional pics from your surgeon :)

      @@JasonMartinMD I'm going in for a visit to view and discuss next week. I do feel more confident in my decision. 😃Thank you so much, I appreciate you, Dr. M, and Nils! Your CZcams channel has been a huge help. Oh! Do you have an episode on how to ambulate when you've had multiple procedures, i.e.; breast/arm/thigh lifts? Getting in/out of bed...😬

      @@JasonMartinMD Yes, and they're awesome!!! It's given me the confidence that I needed and I'm so thankful for your input. I know that we all get uncomfortable with expressing our concerns, but this is a huge step...not to mention cost. I've NEVER spent this much on myself and I can't wait to see the results. Whoop Whoop! 🙌🙌

    Hi Amy, does Dr. Martin do mastopexy and silicone implant in split-pec pocket? Is this something new or is it the same a dual plane?

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Jeni, yes, split pocket or dual plane are the same concept. Using your own muscle and facia to help 'sling' the implant helps with prefect placement of the implant.

    My ladies hurt so bad after doing some research.... I still want a lift with a little more. I'm just saying. It's odd how in Brazil, they have a government benefit to help you get plastic surgery. It's just that common there , crazy. My question is, how do i know which is best? Implants only, or lift only, or both?

    • @JasonMartinMD
      @JasonMartinMD Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Sarah, thanks for watching! A good way to know if you need a lift is if your nipple/areola are below your inframmary fold. Your surgeon will be able to tell you as well :)
