I started this channel just to try out my GoPro Hero camera but it evolved into something more: audio interface, computer mixing and editing, video editing software--stuff I knew nothing about before. So here is my channel to record some drum videos of songs I like (mainly classic rock) with the hope that as time passes, I will get better in all phases of drumming, recording and editing video/audio.
Main influences: Ringo (he started me on wanting to take up the drums), Neil Peart, John Bonham, Stewart Copeland and Phil Collins (particularly on the pre-Duke albums).
Others I admire/respect: Harry Damas (my drum teacher for many years, RIP), Marco Minnemann, Thomas Lang, Gavin Harrison, Danny Carey, Lars Ulrich, Keith Moon, Dino Danelli, Dave Grohl, Vinnie Paul, Matt Cameron, Nicko McBrain, Karen Carpenter, Mickey Dee (when he was in King Diamond), Liberty Devitto, Ron Tutt, Topper Headon, Carter Beauford, etc.
FYI, I upload new videos every Saturday...or at least try to.

Aerosmith - Dude (Looks Like A Lady) Drum Cover
My drum cover of Aerosmith's Dude (Looks Like A Lady).
Always liked the song as it especially cruises and rocks throughout the whole song. The first single from their 1987 Permanent Vacation album, the song was co-written by Steve Tyler/Joe Perry with Desmond Child and charted well reaching #14 on the Billboard Chart that year.
Stemming from an incident where Steve Tyler was at a bar and mistook Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil as a lady with long blonde hair, this lead to his teasing by other band mates joking how that "Dude looks like a lady!," (Wikipedia) and thus the song's idea was formed. Originally, the song was going to be called "Crusin' for the ladies" but was talked out of it by Desmond Child.
On this cover, I am just laying down what drummer Joey Kramer recorded. A lot of interesting accented parts as well as that great pocket drumming of his, there was nothing more I could add. Ok, a few more accent/cymbal hits from time to time but nope, I am just following along. Best to stay out of the way at times too. Besides, I just want to fall in that groove while hitting hard, you know?
Anyway, here it is. I hope you dig it. Real fun to play this one as I haven't heard this song in a long time--forgot how cool it was!

I honestly think there was a lot of mixing to achieve what we hear on the album version of this song. There are some live concert versions of Secret Journey and not even Stewart plays anything close to the what we hear on the album. It's really the hi-hat work that makes this song and it's probably impossible to make them sound anything close to what's on the album. This is the closest I've heard - great job!

This video really helped me a lot. I'm going to take what I learned from it to band practice tonight and show my mates how much better I can play this song now. I'm 68 and just started playing drums 4 years afo after hacking away at guitar for 35 years. The drums just felt right immediately. I wish I had started drumming earlier, but I'm really enjoying it now. Thank you. :)
