- My drum cover of Queens of the Stone Age's No One Knows.
I have, for the longest time, wanted to do a drum cover of this song but was always a bit weary and unsure if I could do it justice. I've seen many cats cover this on the kit and they just absolutely slay it on there so you can imagine my trepidation in undertaking such a task in drumming this. But I said, wtf, and just went for it! I've always dug the song since it came out in 2002, and have always loved the drums on it especially.
From the third QotSA album Songs for the Deaf, No One Knows features the amazing drumming of Dave Grohl. His four-on-the-floor foot stomp on the kick, coupled with the straight beat drumming provide the drive in this song. Then he goes crazy insane with mega fills throughout particularly showcasing a drum fill I had to learn--I guess you would call it a herta triplet? It's a fantastic fill and works really well in this song. So of course, I practiced like mad to get it right, haha!
Not a particularly perfect take on this, but I love the energy on it plus again, it gives me a chance to hit the drums hard while keeping that great 4/4 bop! It's like in Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker during Jimmy Page's guitar solo break--it's not technically challenging, a bit sloppy in places, but he said he loved the energy/vibe from it (at least that's what I read), so that's kind of like that here. A bit sloppy yet high on energy! But it's passable, right?
Anyway, here it is. Such a great song to play and again the energy and drive of the song just called for some heavy hitting which I was more than glad to do! Hope it shows in this!

Thanks so much James. Yes, it's one of the few 21st century tunes that I liked as I am more of a classic rock guy but this one was a blast to play since it has a lot of cool drumming moments in it, that's for sure, lol. Much appreciated as always.

Oh yeah. Great to see this brilliant cover Jorge. I know well how enjoyable it is to play this song as I've covered it myself. Your played all of the four fills exactly like Grohl but I played the tom part of the first fill on cymbals instead of the first rack tom which I shouldn't have but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Excellent and very accurate drumming my friend.
Thanks so much Andrew and I do remember your cover of this. Subconsciously planted a seed to cover this tune. Tough fills to execute but glad I was close enough to them, lol. Besides, for me it was more for the power in the drumming more than anything as I like to think I am a basher, haha!
