    something people dont address and over look is something as simple as having a greenthumb. people who keep gardens (outdoor veggie gardens) and house plants transition easier into aquascaping and the world of aquatic plants. i purchased some from a local shop that wasnt running co2 in their tanks. ive been growing mine with out c02 as well. it does just fine with out it. this hobby requires patience which most people lack.

    Hope you can come up with a product that will make tap water better suited for aquarium plants (and fish of course). We have well water that is hard, I've been thinking of getting RO filter, but I don't want to setup a mixing staging for water changes. I like the convenience of filling up the aquarium from tap.

    Hmmm. I don't have a high tech tank by any means. No CO2 at all, just light. Started this plant 6 months ago from 3 specimens. Now I have half of the 120 litera tank bottom self propogated with this plant. Grows like a weed. Really beautiful, lush, stout and low. Yours seem to stretch towards the light, mine stays low, forming pogostemon hilferi medow. I am going to cut it back now. Happy growing!

    Hello, I have one question from Japan. What is the maximum CO2 level that can be increased in an aquarium without fish or shrimp?

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist Před rokem

      Hello, you can keep injecting more and more CO2, but eventually the off-gassing rate from the water surface will make it difficult to keep injecting more. I have heard of cases where the tank has a 2 pH drop, and 60-70+ppm of CO2. There are diminishing returns to more CO2 though, so beyond a certain amount, you won't see any improvement in growth rates of the plants. The red Eriocaulon Quinguangulare does better at 40+ ppm CO2 than say at 30ppm or below, but it is the exception. The large majority of aquatic plants do not need very high CO2 levels to grow well. In nature style tanks with easy plants, the tank can be grown with 10 - 15ppm CO2 without issues. In fact in such cases, low CO2 may give less trimming work as the plants grow more slowly.

    • @user-jw1oy7ii8z

    hi , i want to ask your opinion i just started my planted tank (currently in cycling) i think im added too many osmocote (6-13-25) during the setup i think i sprinkle maybe around 100 pellets (not sure how many but i feel i put too many )under dirt and aquasoil ,am i screwed? im planning to plant many root feeder like swords and crypts so i thought i needed many nutrients in substrate but after the setup i research if there's any effect if i put too much osmocote i read mixed report that osmocote will leach huge ammonia overtime and will kill the fauna/not safe for fauna , will damage the plant / burn the plant ,and will damage the substrate etc i thinking to start over but i want to consult to expert first . my setup 11 gallon , base layer pumice and dirt , topped with aquasoil , planning to stay in low tech for a moment , and planning to plant heavily thanks in advanced

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist Před rokem

      The good thing is that most terrestrial osmocotes not designed for underwater usage leech out the majority of their components in a short time (couple of weeks). So it wouldn't leech for long term, it is the short term ammonia spike that is usually the issue. So you can try running the tank empty for a couple of weeks, do a couple of large water changes then plant. Swords and crypts are quite hardy, so they will be less affected than other plants. However, if your osmocote contains trace mix meant for terrestrial plants, it may/usually contains too much copper. That may poison the substrate layer longer term as the heavy metals bind to the soil.
