    Gorgeous, you make low tech look high! That ludwigia is such a beautiful shade of red. Also, good choice on the psuedomugils, I find them so sweet and they almost vibrate with activity!

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety

      Thanks for coming by! The ludwigia sp. red stays red with good lighting even without CO2, one of the best candidates for having color in a low tech tank~

    In my opinion low-tech means no CO2 dosing at all but some beg to differ. Either way its a beautiful tank. Good work man!

    Hey dennis. Congratulations on an amazing tank. Just a few questions please.
    1. What is DHG?
    2. Can you give us some more details about your substrate please. What iron rich mix do you use? What kind of soil do you use?
    3. Are you based in Singapore or Malaysia?
    4. The reason for my 3rd question was this:...where did you get your osmocote from?
    5. Do you have any PAR readings at the substrate level please?
    Cheers and truly sorry for such a long list of questions. ...

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety +1

      Thanks man;
      DHG is just short for dwarf hair grass
      I use soils that I find at the local garden shop, I'll probably have to make a vid to explain the soils, as each garden shop will sell different varieties and its non standard
      I'm from Singapore !
      Osmocote also from garden shops, but I bought the knockoff version locally. If you want true osmocote but are based in country that doesn't sell it can always ship from the U.S. Different brands of osmocote can be quite different
      I don't own a PAR meter, but going by readings taken by others using similar bulbs, it's around 80 - 100ish umols around the substrate

    • @GoodSamaritan1972
      @GoodSamaritan1972 Před 9 lety

      Wow...bro...thats a lot of PAR at substrate level..

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety

      +good samaritan It is, but if all the soil is covered, algae doesn't have a space to bloom.... the background plants provide some shade as well when they've grown out more

  • @senthyril
    @senthyril Před 9 lety

    Awesome tank! How do you get the DHG to grow well in a low tech tank? Is it because you don't have too many other plants competing for CO2?

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety

      Probably also due to small tank size, which allows light to hit the substrate easily. I find that with dirt base, and fine substrate, DHG really isn't a hard plant. It does require a minimum light level to spread though

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 7 lety

      no CO2 in this tank; carpeting took a couple of months, I used stronger lighting than usual for low tech tanks

  • @jonasbuchholz2593
    @jonasbuchholz2593 Před 8 lety

    what lights do you use and how long are they on? i always have problems with algae after a few weeks, in my bigger tank i control it with 2 pleco's

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 8 lety

      I use a 20w CFL lamp, but the height is adjustable to vary intensity. Algae issues are complex, but generally, more plant mass, less light helps

  • @TeodorAngelov
    @TeodorAngelov Před 7 lety

    Hi! What is the exact type of the soil top(gravel/flourite, etc) and do you inject co2? I had a setup with a 3gal, soil topped with quartz gravel, diy co2 and 24w cfl which failed miserably (no growth, rotting, etc) ;(

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 7 lety +1

      Probably used soil that is too labile... try finding a soil that has highly degraded organics (no compost !), should be brown rather than black, no large bits. The gravel is just plain inert gravel

    @jclaudemoran504 Před 9 lety

    Very nice! What are your water parameters?

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety

      JClaude Moran It's slightly hard because of the limestone/seiryu rocks.GH/KH around 6-7, TDS around 300, I dose Macros every week and micros every 3 days. Water temp is quite warm around 80-84f (its the tropics here)

    • @jclaudemoran504
      @jclaudemoran504 Před 9 lety

      Dennis Wong Nice, thatt's very similar to my water. What's your ph? And are "red neons" the same kind of fish and neon tetras?(same requirements)

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety

      JClaude Moran I generally don't test the pH of my tanks... haa. Most livestock/plants are sensitive to KH/alkalinity rather than pH, so that's what I test instead. Red neons are are actually Pseudomugil paskai - I think they belong to the family of rainbow fishes

  • @MrKarim992
    @MrKarim992 Před 9 lety

    i have the exact same tank (oh the strange sizes of south east asian tanks) and this really inspired me with what to do with it thanks! do you know what other carpeting plants could be used in this kinda set up? (possibly echinodorus tenellus?)

    • @2hrAquarist
      @2hrAquarist  Před 9 lety +1

      +Karim Swift yup, E. tenellus will work, though it can be significantly taller. I think microsword, crypt parva and Monte carlo will work better. I think we get a big variety of tank sizes here due to cheap imports from China... there are many odd sizes here, some differing from the others by just a centimeter or two

    • @MrKarim992
      @MrKarim992 Před 9 lety

      may give monte carlo a go since i'm already using it in a high tech, thanks for the input by the way. yeah the strange chinese brands with mangled english on the boxing makes me laugh.
