    I've watched this through about 4 times trying to make sure I didn't miss anything, only one question arose, why did you have us measure width across the three screens? I didn't see us use that measurement. Now for the good news you are probably not going to believe.. this works on an old low budget system! I have an i5 3750k intel processor, on an old Asus motherboard w/ 32 gigs of ram, and a Nvidia 1660 Super card, triple 27 75mhz monitors and this runs at mostly high graphics settings in game and I actually gained a few fps, (now @65 to 70) ...and this is with world plane distance set to 30..... I, like so many others have said, feel more connected to the car, I normally don't run much road course racing but tested at Laguna Seca because I have it memorized the best and I could hit apexs like never before and loved how the rumble strips felt real and in the right place as I drove over. My usual is oval tracks and I tested at South Boston in the Late Model Stock, I feel like I am driving the car instead of being at it's mercy with it driving me is best I know how to explain it. I have a feeling that if the iRacing R&D folks find out about this video it is going to make for some busy days! 4 years now in iRacing and this is the most useful info I have seen yet!

    Amazing video! I am running a single 45” (39”wide) R800 Curved. Would your course still apply? I assume that the changes to the files are applicable but what about the updates to the Monitors parameters? I am 790mm instead of your 635mm from screen. Should I start with a Nearplane of 30 like you did or higher?

You could try to explain to me (us), how to train our senses in a simulator (iRacing). My eyes are mostly focused on the middle screen, and thats where i get 95% of the ques from. • @duckymetric
    @duckymetric Před 2 dny

    Hello Sense of Speed! After following your instructions and driving several parade laps to configure Near Plane I noticed an immediate change in the way I receive FFB from the sim. Not only does the FFB activate in time visually, but it also feels less compressed and slightly lighter than before. Until now the FFB has always felt somewhat disconnected and I've never really felt like I was fully in tune with how the car was reacting. I ran a single hot lap test with my old FOV setup and your new FOV setup. Following the same hot lap drive, and same line with no mistake that I felt would invalidate the honest attempt and validity of the comparison, I ran 7 tenths faster with the new FOV. As you explain in your video I honestly believe this setup change has completely changed not just the FOV, but the way I interpret FFB and I'm more capable and confident in the car. Thank you for your work on this so far and I'm thrilled to see the next video!

    Great video. I am hitting apexes much better now. And riding close to the wall in NASCAR is so much easier now. Thank you for your work. Question? Curious how you came up with adding 50 to the width and putting “12’s” in front of the width and radius numbers? Is it arbitrary or is there a reason? Also, what is the purpose of measuring the 3 monitors width than dividing by two? You came up with 656, but you never used it anywhere?

      I stated the value incase anyone outside of the recommended guidelines was going to try using the curved option since we only tested it on 60 to 65 degrees and there is a reason I don't use it. If using 656 as a value the side screen images are pushed away from the driver to far and don't render correctly on curved monitors. If the radius was perfect it would be ok. 50 above our monitor width brings them much more inline and is why you can hug the wall better and also allows us to feel more center of gravity in the car. In part 2 I will actually talk about how we can use the radius value for fine adjustment per vehicle as well. In regards to the 12 change. Nothing is arbitrary. This is a correction for forced perspective and helped recreate the scale of using the single curved option which renders a larger image. The change was also developed with the other drivers to help render the tracks they drove in a more natural manner. Thanks for the kind words.

      Thank you for the quick reply. I’m on flat 27, 55 degree angle, 600mm distance. I’ll play around with both options…

      You will notice image scale changes when messing with the radius and will need to adjust fov accordingly. You can go back to not using the 12 replacement to dial in your correct eye distance while testing, then switch back if you like. Personally, I do it a different way. I keep the 12, but before I make changes, I make note of a part of the dash that lines up to the bottom of the center monitor. Once I make a radius change, I hit the bracket key until the item is in the same location. This will keep the same relative scale as your initial values.

    Hey mate, thankks for this amazing video. i just wanted to know why it is important to stay at X 0. What should i do if i want to move the seat to not see the ear of the bucket seat anymore?

      It was for testing in the beginning and setting the near plane. If you need to move x you can. We will talk more about camera in the next video.

    It's strange.. I seem to get a little motion sick when I drive with these settings. My usual setup is 32", 630 eye distance, 60 degrees angle. FOV 177 Doing this I end up with 191 fov, 1200 radius (140cm between my monitors, so 700 to begin with, adjust distance in game and then switch to 1200). They look extremely similar, but the new one it feels sliiiightly more natural to hit the apex, but I get quite a bit of motion sickness..

      What is your monitor width in game, and do you use any head or car movement? If you are at 710 monitor width and 700 radius, we need to make a change.

    Great work, thank you. I tried this on a 24" triple setup on a motion sim. Eye distance is 460mm, Screen Angle is about 45deg. Really helped reduce the "Stretched" apexes, and I feel more natural at turn in points. Only thing I had to change was the bezel width. Had to increase it from 4 to 12mm after applying the 12 factor on the screens. Looking forward to more.

      Awesome, and yes we do have to increase the bezel correction value due to the size difference. It's ok.
