There's a lot of compression from the book going on here, combining the Beacons with the delivery of the Red Arrow. I'll never forget how, in the book, the journey east by Gandalf & Pippin passing the lit Beacons is mirrored a few chapters later by Theoden leading his army along the same road, passing those same Beacons (now darkened) and finding the body of the messenger with the Red Arrow.
