Hello everyone! Welcome to my channel :) I make daily vlogs about my day-to-day work life, with frequent ramblings on my favorite podcasts, books, and anything else that comes to mind. I also tend to bring up the The Lord of the Rings books quite often, as they are my current obsession.
I started making these vlogs as I found traditional CZcams videos with people "talking at me" on how to achieve my goals to be rather unhelpful. Instead, I wanted to show my viewers the interior life of someone striving to achieve great things and live a life of impact and meaning. I can't give you a road map of how I will do that, nor can I give much advice, but I can be honest and candid with you all about my journey, and hopefully meet some great people along the way. Off topic, You've got really good hair😍 I quit FB and IG a while back and I'm not planning on going back, Too much pressure to feel validated and at the end of the day it's all smoking mirrors.
Spirituality isn't weird. If you need food for your body, you also need to feed your soul somehow. So don't shame yourself out of it.
Yeah I have reflected on much of the same things, and I don't think that this topic concerns women more than men - we aren't that different to eachother. I've been through two rounds of almost purging my social media presence since 2008 and I've come to realize that it's happening in cycles for me, like that some anxiety level reaches the top and I react with the flee or fight instinct, but always comes back for a new round. Social media is a tool, and like any other tool in the real world you can harm yourself on it, but with practice it can make wonders for your cause.

i went through a hard time 2 years ago . And i would always post these vulnerable moments of myself and having people watching me who didn’t really care about and i would expose myself too much and i also had people that never liked me watching my life and it honestly made me uncomfortable

Instagram is a cesspool pool. Definitely deleted that account. Facebook is getting bad too. You are gorgeous and don’t need anything done at all. I’m sure your boyfriend will say the same thing. Social Media has bad effects on society overall.
hi so i installed instagram again yesterday cause my exam's got over and idk scrolling on yt as well and came across your video decides to watch it and tbh i can relate to you in every way and i just checked my screetime and realised it was 5 hours and 54 minutes doesn't seem bad right? here's the twist it's 6:27 am rn in india and im already at 6 hour screentime so deleting instagram again cause i don't wanna just scroll mindlessly and do nothing in my sem break rather i want to be productive and it's all thanks to you !

Great video. But I just want to ask, how you you get over the fear of missing out? Like I usually just watch other people's stories and stuff but I ask my self do I really need to be watching other people's lives. Not knowing what other people are upto gets to me all the time. Any advice would be helpful. I just want to delete the app and not care about other people's lives.
Caroline, your video on quitting social media was very true. i think its so sad how many young women are being impacted & men with depression because all the filters and comparison that is literally stealing their life, joy, & just moments,, time is currency!!! my hubs & i were talking about how kinda strange it is that we as a culture take selfies.. There is an amazing documentary by former model from the 70s called Gods of the new age, it is so interesting hope you get to see it. i saw it years ago seemingly by accident.. its nice seeing people starting to see the down and sad side of social media 💟 Shalom :))

I think like anything if left unconstrained it can be dangerous and toxic as you said. However, I also think that if someone is self aware and mindful of its effects, it can be used in a positive way!

Geniune question.. I have deleted most of my social media except for Facebook, the enrichment and fulfillment out of life I get now I'm not wasting time doom scrolling is amazing but I want to sell some things online, I can't think of how to do this except for with Facebook marketplace.
Bravo. IG is corrosive and a time thief. I think we often forget to factor in the background static social media has in our lives. It may not be front of mind but it’s always lurking in the background affecting us.

It took me a broken phone to stop using social media. My iphone was beyond repair because it fell out of my pocket rock climbing lol and instead of spending the money to buy a new one i actually downgraded to a black berry. Its been almost a month and i feel free but totally agree with the points you brought up in your video.
Phone breaks are the besttt. When I was in a job transition years ago I went without my phone for a month. It was awesome. I applaud and respect you for rolling with it and enjoying the break while you can!

Modern people think they're so much smarter than their ancestors. It doesn't take a genius to figure out sharing pictures of your hoo ha on the internet and chasing likes and status with a fake persona isnt fulfilling. Neither is money or status. Yet somehow people are still making the same mistakes and desperately trying to convince others they're happy. A bunch of sad little animals who want to be part of the herd rather than do the necessary work to become a genuine individual with their own thoughts and opinions.

coffee is a drug end of the story , i dont know how humanity wants to get better while majority consume legal or illegal drugs everyday , althought they say magic mushrooms have interesting benefits
I've gone back to drinking about one cup a week now. What I can say is that the dopamine effects are significant enough for me to want to keep it at arms length. Coffee can really delude us (like any drug that affects our neurological system/mental health) into thinking we enjoy our lives more than we actually do, which is unfortunate IMO.
@@wanderingwithcaroline yeah but at the end humans are tecnically healthier without them , addiction doesnt make sense , i think there should be a way to have a tecnologically advanced civilization without the need of drugs and that it is acceptable for everyone
I like that you talked about being uncomfortable sharing provocative pictures. I have a lot of my male coworkers in my following and immediately felt the male gaze at the office when I started sharing pics of my progress at the gym. It doesnt sit right with my soul, deleted the app off my phone this week.
I totally get that. I can really see benefits to IG, especially being a small business owner now, but it is a very fine line to walk between personal and professional. I hope the break goes well for you and that you find it restful and refreshing as I did :)

Have you heard of matcha? It has l-theanine and caffeine so it keeps you calm while being alert and focused. I'm not sure if you're trying to cut caffeine all together, but matcha is great imo. There are also so many benefits to matcha. If interested, try looking into ceremonial matcha and not culinary since you won't get the full benefits of matcha with culinary grade. Hope everything works out!
Yes I have! But I didn't know about the grades.. I'll have to look into it. I am cutting out all caffeine at the moment, but I will have a cup now maybe 1x/week. Maybe matcha will be a better substitute when I do decide to do caffeine as I still notice the jitters/anxiety with coffee. Thank you :)
I just diactivated my account, I need a long break
stimulants just give you so much anxiety at the end of the day. I used to take methylphenidate to cope with the workload of my studies but I think it ultimately was a net loss, because my sleep quality nosedived and the jitters made me more scatterbrained in the long-term. you're sacrificing the future for the present really. it's only good for short sprints. if you even start drinking coffee again look into supplementing L-theanine. it removes the jitters and gives you hours of serene stimulation and focus
I had a cup of coffee today just for “kicks” and I was as on a high for 30 minutes, until I became wired and irritable. It is really crazy how much it affects our body and how quickly our bodies demand more of it to keep the “high.” I will look into l-theanine for the off days that I do decide to try a cup. Hopefully it helps with its the side effects. Thank you!

I feel what you are saying. Though atm I don't feel like fully deleting Instagram because I can still see some benefits (and prob also for "anxiety" reasons), I can def relate and felt like deleting it at times, and who knows... maybe I will sometime in the future?
It's very much a personal decision, I could see myself going back in the future, but right now I'm enjoying the break. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts :)

Do you try to not eat dinner while working? I never know if I should just bring dinner to my desk or step away
I think if you have time, stepping away for 10-15 minutes will help overall mindfulness and satiation, at least I have found that for myself! And if you really have time, a quick walk after eating is great too :) I don't always have the time for a walk, but I'm trying to at least get better about not eating with distractions.

Wish I could get by on 5 hours of sleep but 8 hours minimum is what I need to function. I may try setting a night alarm to remind myself when to get ready for bed I’m 100% a snacker. If there’s anything I’m craving like chips or chocolate I tend to have it right away. I’m learning to let those cravings go by and choose healthier options. 2024 is the year I’m breaking out of unhealthy decisions and implementing new ones 🎉

I really like these vlogs because it is like watching someone do what most of us do everyday, work at our desks a lot. I also do the 50 min. work sessions, I still struggle with not browsing the web when I'm in a work session, I want to become more strict with this. Do you do a good job of staying off the web during your work blocks?
Thank you :) As far as staying off the web, I used to be really bad about constantly checking my phone or web surfing. I started using an app called Opal about a year ago, and it helped me a lot at first with restricting screen time use. I know there are other web restrictive softwares out there to prevent web browsing while working. I no longer use Opal anymore as I don't feel the need, but it definitely helped me break the habit at first. I hope that helps!
@@wanderingwithcaroline Thanks for the response! Follow up question, are you pretty strict with how long your breaks are? I try to keep mine from between 10mins-30mins, but sometimes I feel like I need a longer breaker.
Of course! And I am not, but I am trying to get better about it! Sometimes I will lengthen them a bit if the weather is nice and I want to go outside for a walk. I do find that if they are too long though it is difficult for me to get back into a workflow.

Thanks :) As of now I don't plan to expand to other platforms other than youtube. I prefer the long form format. If I ever did, I'd probably hire someone else to manage it so I don't spend the time on the app.
