I am having the same issue with brassy ends. I'm working up the courage to use overtone because I still have a lot of natural dark in my hair and I read one person say it lifted / lightened their natural dark (which I don't want). I'm also nervous to put anything on my grays because I don't want them to end up permanently stained and have to start over with the growing out process. But overall, it sounds like Overtone may be the way for me to go. Did you find it completely washed out of your grays with no problem?

@@HollyMcLaughlinArt it’s been so long since I did that that I can’t really remember. However, I’ve heard from a number of my blog readers that you really probably shouldn’t use Overtown on your naturally silver hair. It works fine for some people, but other people people end up with permanently stained hair 😢 So I wouldn’t take the risk

I grew mine out naturally. Went from about 10" 's long to a long bob, which removed almost all the old dye. I was a dark brunette with about 90% gray/silver roots. My second cut (about 6 to 8 weeks later) removed the rest of the color. With using silver shampoo (amazon) and purple conditioner, I now have a light violet hue to my silver.

I’d love my long, curly, grey-haired self to have a wolf cut on the shorter side. Sort of a Joan Jett vibe. For some color fun, try fairy hair; multicolor shimmer strands throughout your hair. No dye commitment, you can cut and style as normal and they fall out when your strand does. Just some thoughts

Well I did grow my hair out and it was different tones of white and gray and it's very beautiful. But I had started dating somebody that was a little younger and he wanted me to dye my hair black and I regretted it . So I went and got something that what metal the color out. because it was too pronounced . It was actually like a chalky black. So I was hoping that I could get some of it removed. So instead of listening to the garbage that people tell you on Google and CZcams all I did was go get my hair conditioner and I left it on for about 30 minutes and I did this every time I washed my hair and it would take a lot of the color out. I didn't use the shampoo all I did was use the hair conditioner and then I would rinse my hair and the color would come out. So now I'm at the color of a brown with a little bit of red highlights showing. But it's a whole lot better than pitch chalky black. My natural hair color before it turns gray wasn't off black which had a lot of brown and black into it. But I wish I had never touched my gray hair because it was beautiful. And I'm headed that way again I'm just going to let my hair grow out and then I'm going to cut it as I go . Because the sides of my hair is already showing my gray and it looks like a neon sign like I got a light over my head. The part that goes white ,is like it's a glistening white and it's so beautiful. So once I get my hair back to the color that I want nobody's going to ever talk to me about dying my hair again. I'm 69 years old when I was younger I used to dye my hair all the time and I would most the time have it burgundy and my grandson which he's now like 6 years old who said Mimi he said I love your hair when it was red. He didn't like my hair being Gray. It was a long time between seeing him I had been sick with covid pneumonia for a long long time and I didn't go around them very much and so I was very weak so when he did see me he saw me with the gray hair then my hair had grown out. Actually it's a good thing because you know my arms hurt and the sockets of my arms. My rotator cuff is not like it used to be so it hurts to put dye on my hair. Because I sprained my arms when I do the work for my hair. I tried to let somebody else do it for me but if they don't do it as good as I do. So I quit trying to ask for help. So the way to go is to go back gray and white. GOD KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING WHEN HE MADE MY HAIR COLOR AT THE END OF MY LIFE. MY HAIR IS SOFT EVEN IF IT IS GRAY . NIGHT COURSE HAIR LIKE THEY TALK ABOUT. I TAKE COLLAGEN. USED TO I CAN ONLY GET MY HAIR TO GROW IF I USED DYE ON MY HAIR. I THINK THAT'S THE REASON WHY I GOT INTO THE HABIT OF DYING MY HAIR WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. BUT IF YOU BUY A COLLAGEN AND IT HELPS YOUR SKIN IF YOUR FINGERNAILS YOUR TOENAILS YOUR HAIR YOUR COMPLEXION EVEN HELPS YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT.

So I think I'm going to keep my hair and throw away my boyfriend. I still attract those younger guys old enough to be my children. But they're mentality and their immaturity is just blows my mind. And I sure can't tolerate that. They get on my nerves. So the best way I can keep the young people away from me. Is to go back Gray. I love my hair. I would have a lifetime of my gray hair that I have all these fickle men. When my hair is dark and I can pass for 45 or 50. When the young guys asked me how old I am and I say I'm 69 years old I'll be 70 in April and they tell me I'm a liar. That pisses me off. How do you say so young. I don't know that answer. We just have good genes in my family. My oldest daughter just turned 50 years old. And forever everybody's always thought she was in her later twenties. Used to make her mad. I get to feeling the same way. The God has blessed that's all.

I understand remembering why we grow our hair out regardless of color. My hair has reached my mid back and the triangle look a sad style. I had my stylist cut into a U shape. I use professional shampoo which has a lilac tint. Pureology hydrating. So I don’t see any yellow. I installed a water filter from home depot to my shower head to keep water from depositing unwanted residue. I invested in Dyson airwrap and airstait which minimizes my need to heat style as much. I use a leave in conditioner, Pureology, heat protection for either blow dry or hot tools, yes, there is a difference. Most of these tip u got from the Blowout Professor, even though he would never suggest $600 hair tool. And hair oil is a necessity with my texture of hair. Hope you consider working smarter with your hair style rather than giving up to the ✂️ Take care

Hi! I have a gray hair website where I talk about all of these excellent tips and help educate other women on gray hair care as well. So I do understand how to take care of my gray hair and how to avoid yellowing - but even with my hair shower filter, protecting my hair from the sun and from heat damage, etc. I still ended up with some yellowing. 🤷‍♀️ All I can think is that I experimented too much with the Dyson Airwrap when I first got it (even though I use UV protectant and thermal protectant before it touches my hair, I use it on low heat or no heat, and on the lowest blow possible)- I had SO much trouble (and I still still have trouble) getting it to create lasting curls I think I just used it too much and left it on for too long. Lesson learned - my fine hair is very prone to yellowing, so I think I need to either forego any hot tools whatsoever (including the Airwrap), or I just need to be able to live with some yellowing. I’m leaning towards the latter ♥️

I've gone nearly a year without the dye and I love the look of the gray in the front but not so sure about the back. It seems darker gray, but still kind of pretty. I think the only thing I'm concerned about is that my hair seems thinner than when it was a light/med brunette. I notice my scalp more. Might be just me. Right now I'm doing the cold turkey but my daughter is getting married in about 6 months and I want to look my best. Definitely planning a trip to my hair dresser soon.

I wish my hair was more of an even salt and pepper or pure grey color. My grow out was not that. I had big ugly chunks of a weird brown color which made me feel lifeless and blah. The second surprise was that no matter what I put on my hair, it held no curl and had no body. I tried all grey for 2.5 yrs and recently bleached it out and toned it. It has some life again and the color is an ash blonde which makes me feel so much happier. Perhaps the grey root grow out might not be too bad since I am not dying it. Hair can be unpredictable for sure.

I did a pixie and grew it out. I didnt know my grey hair wasnt grey enough-it was partly brown and the grey mixture was not cute. After 2.5 yrs of grow out I tried to tone it to less brown. Didnt work. So my next move was the bleach and tone to silver. It does look so much prettier, brighter and really gave me a boost in my confidence. If I had all grey hair, I would love it. The grey silver tones are fun. Maybe in a few more yrs I will have all grey hair.

I am in the camp that will tell you not to chop off your hair. I love my hair long and I don’t look good in short hair. My husband loves my hair long and he helps take care of it for me. He washes it is the shower, I also get a scalp massage. He combs it out for me every morning. I love the feel of having him comb out my hair. Then he will braid it for me. I don’t like the feel of my hair in my face or on my neck in the hot weather, so he does French, Dutch, fishtail and various other braids to keep my hair out of my face and off my neck. He does a really great job doing them and I get compliments on them. I cut his hair about every 5-6 weeks and every other time, I take a seat on the stool and get my ends trimmed. He takes off about an inch each time, just to remove the split/damaged ends to keep my ends neat. Almost no one ever notices, except one lady at church last spring noticed when I had my hair done. She said that they were so neat and even, she could tell I had a trim. So if your husband loves your hair long, maybe you should ask him to braid it for you. There are so many good tutorials online, he could be an expert in no time. It might motivate him to do it for you if you tell him that if he will braid it for you, it won’t get cut. I also have thick hair, which gives me great full braids, but when I had my hair cut short several years back, I hated out it poofed out, and I certainly don’t want a manly looking, head hugging butch cut. I have seen other women who have done that and it doesn’t look good on them. I have had other women ask why I keep my hair so long, why don’t I just chop it off, I remind them that I am a Christian woman and I wear it long to honor God and my husband.

Please don't cut your beautiful long hair! Of course, it's your very personal decision, but this hairstyle and length looks gorgeous on you. I don't quite understand your dilemma, to be honest. Why do you have to be into yoga and walk through meadows full of flowers, if you like long gray hair? I have seen very diverse types of women with long silver hair where I live (a German university town). As to the practical aspects: why don't you just tie your hair together in a ponytail, if you're too busy to style it? Although I adore your long hair, I think a bob would look great on you too. Good luck with the decision making!

Thank you, Claudia! I was just being silly with the yoga/flowers thing - it was just a way of describing that sometimes my hair doesn't seem to suit my lifestyle. But I agree re: the ponytail - it solves all my problems!

You won’t have the pyramid look if it is cut right. I have waist length white hair. I do wear it up a lot, which is great because it is easy and exposing the neck is so cooling. I am thinking of going shorter, but it has to be a style where I don’t need hot tools because those cause yellowing. I have never used a blow dryer or hot curler on my hair since letting it grow out. I do expose it to the sun, which is not good, so I use purple conditioner to counteract the yellow. One of the hazards of living in Hawaii. I do get what you say about long hair when older seems to be looked down upon by some. They are entitled to their bad opinions lol.

Don't buy the "bobs are easy" lie! A bob needs to be washed and blow dried every day to look good. And it really gets in the way for sport, yoga etc. I often had a pixie cut too, when I was younger, but the older you get the more important it is to find a great stylist (if you want to avoid looking frumpy), and visiting that stylist every few months to maintain the shape. Then, of course, the long and awkward phase when growing it out. These days I keep my hair fairly long - between my collar bone and my armpits. It's long enough to wear in a bun, or pony tail. This is by far the easiest and most versatile hair style (apart from a shaved head - there is a reason those nuns shear their hair off to avoid wasting their time on vanity)! I don't think your ends look yellowy but I love the idea of playing around with a tints and colours!

Alex Gaboury's channel is fantastic for long hair styles. She has LONG hair (extensions) but also gives steps for shorter hair in each tutorial. www.youtube.com/@AlexGaboury The Magic Elastic Hair Comb tutorials give a number of ways of using these combs, which I found useful. czcams.com/video/op88AOWRYb0/video.html

Cut to shoulders, possibly just below. Still long enough to pin up or back, but easier to maintain. A good stylist will be able to handle thick hair. I also think it will really suit you. The way your hair falls to your jawline is really pretty. 😊

Your hair is beautiful, but I understand your issues. If my hair gets longer than about shoulder-length, it drives me nuts. For a lot of my life, it was in a chin-length bob, but I can't be bothered with styling one now, so shoulder-length is the best option for me - it can be up, down, robe-curled or straight, and it's easy to accessorise with pretty clips and bands, etc.

I’m 68 my hair is almost the same…..I would just cut 4/5 inches. Gives you a change. I do that ever two years for the same reason. Yellow ends. Love your grey. Do what makes you happy!

SO relatable. Obvs, do whatever you want. It's your hair, you'd look stunning no matter what, and as others have pointed out, a good stylist should be able to overcome your concerns about the MTM flip and the RRD pyramid/poof. As far as your request for long hair ideas, I love Lainey Marie's tutorials for easy up-does and other ways to play with longer hair: www.youtube.com/@LaineyMarieBeauty

If cut properly, your hair won't "poof out" at the ends. A good stylist will lightly bevel/shape the bottom for a balanced proportion. My ends are very thick and and that is exactly what my stylist does.

Such a timely video for me! My below-the-boobs hair is straight, mostly white on the crown but salt and pepper in back and yellowing on the ends. Ugh! I always wear it in a pony or half up, never down. Thinking of going back to shoulder length which is versatile and I don't feel ridiculous wearing it down. Also before taking that step I'm thinking about coloring the ends as you mentioned! Looking forward to seeing what you do! Your long layers are absolutely gorgeous but I understand wanting to make a change.

Sounds like you want a change but aren't sure what you want to do. You could have it cut shorter, maybe shoulder length or have it layered for something different. It would still be long enough to put up. Then if you decided you didn't like that you could either go shorter or grow it out again.

I am a little late viewing your video, but obviously, you should do whatever YOU want (and you may have already 'done the deed'), but - just my humble opinion - I LOVE your hair and as I have been growing out my gray over the past 13 months🎉🥳👏🏼 I have made my goal to get to the length of your hair😍 I can't wait to see what you decide - go girl!!!👍🏼😘❤

Using a blue shampoo made for gray hair will take the yellow out

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum Před 16 dny

Actually, blue shampoo neutralizes orange tones in brassy fading brunette hair. Purple shampoo is what neutralizes yellow tones. I talk all about in this recent video: czcams.com/video/tRvZJvAqwW4/video.html. I use purple shampoo once a week, but the yellow still bugs me. :-)
