    Do you go through the same kind of struggle when you have to make a big hair decision? Or are you in the "it's just hair - it grows" camp? Both are equally valid - let me know!

      I always struggle with the decision but the older i get its gotten easier. It was getting tangled, i was shedding and its waaay too hot in Florida for all that hair!

      I felt hours of regret after getting a very short Pixie in order to cut the old color off. After the shock wore off, I loved the freedom it gave me. I have no remnant of hair that was here during the last year of pain. It’s a new chapter, pain free, with a sassy Pixie, and salt ‘n pepper hair! PS. I, too, binge true crime podcasts and drink G&Ts! Do you listen to CounterClock, Crime Junkie, or Anatomy of Murder?

    Well, I’m 67 and my silver hair is almost as long as yours. I sometimes think of cutting it but I remember how ridiculous I look in short hair. Just remember when you are hot you can always put your hair up but when you get hot with short hair (and you will) there’s no way to help that. I do go every 3-4 months for a trim to cut off dead ends. I use a flat iron often and my ends are not yellow.🤔 Hope you make the best decision for you.
    I loved when you said you love when it pisses people off that you have long hair. I feel the same way after comments from older women!!!!😂😂😂

    Love your hair! I'm 57, gray but still color. My biggest regret is when I allowed a stylist to cut my hair and cut longer bangs. I was good with the shorter style for about a month. And months later, the longer bangs that won't go back in a ponytail still drives me crazy. I either leave my hair down, up in a bun or ponytail. FYI, I had the asymmetrical Bob too. 😊. I wish I could twitch my nose and bewitch my hair gray all the way down like yours.

    Hey Katie. A bob would look great on you! I think bobs are chic and youthful. I am 10 months into silver hair transition (age 35) and i have had mine into a chic blunt bob and it makes my silver hair look more youthful and shiny. More manageable and a variety of styling options.
    Your hair is beautiful long too. Fun coloured ends are a fun idea. Was playing with the idea. Cant wait to see it on you! Lavender or purple would look great on you.

    I am in the camp that will tell you not to chop off your hair. I love my hair long and I don’t look good in short hair. My husband loves my hair long and he helps take care of it for me. He washes it is the shower, I also get a scalp massage. He combs it out for me every morning. I love the feel of having him comb out my hair. Then he will braid it for me. I don’t like the feel of my hair in my face or on my neck in the hot weather, so he does French, Dutch, fishtail and various other braids to keep my hair out of my face and off my neck. He does a really great job doing them and I get compliments on them. I cut his hair about every 5-6 weeks and every other time, I take a seat on the stool and get my ends trimmed. He takes off about an inch each time, just to remove the split/damaged ends to keep my ends neat. Almost no one ever notices, except one lady at church last spring noticed when I had my hair done. She said that they were so neat and even, she could tell I had a trim. So if your husband loves your hair long, maybe you should ask him to braid it for you. There are so many good tutorials online, he could be an expert in no time. It might motivate him to do it for you if you tell him that if he will braid it for you, it won’t get cut. I also have thick hair, which gives me great full braids, but when I had my hair cut short several years back, I hated out it poofed out, and I certainly don’t want a manly looking, head hugging butch cut. I have seen other women who have done that and it doesn’t look good on them. I have had other women ask why I keep my hair so long, why don’t I just chop it off, I remind them that I am a Christian woman and I wear it long to honor God and my husband.

    I think shorter hair is harder, I can curl my hair and go 4 days without a touch up, but not with short hair.🤷🏻‍♀️ We have similar texture issues..I had a wild idea to chop 8 inches off my hair about 5 years ago and instantly hated it. The styling was really difficult (my hair wants to flip on the ends too😵‍💫) and it took so long to grow back out. Every time the thought enters my head, I think back to that experience. But you do you! I think your current style and even the yellowed ends look beautiful.. but that’s just me and you should be happy!💁🏻‍♀️

    Cut to shoulders, possibly just below. Still long enough to pin up or back, but easier to maintain. A good stylist will be able to handle thick hair. I also think it will really suit you. The way your hair falls to your jawline is really pretty. 😊

    Katie, I think you are still young and your two young boys must love having a cool Mom with long silver hair. It’s very trendy and you style your hair with hot tools. I and many silver hair people I know, do not heat style their hair so we wear out hair shorter -mine is a bob above shoulders.
    You could just start cutting your hair 1” or 2” shorter and keep going until you decide on a length. It’s fun to go shorter. I found mine so much easier to wash dry and style -with plastic rollers- as I go shorter. I can still get my hair into a short pony tail. I too hate hair in my face especially in the summer.

    @jenniferannfox2316 Před měsícem +2

    I cut my hair in a long bob with few face framing layers. I’m 61 and now my grow out is complete. I think longer hair drags the face down bad and all of us at this age are affected with some sagging. The longer the hair especially flat to the head the older we look. I would cut to the shoulders with layers.

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum  Před měsícem +1

      That’s interesting. I feel like a bob draws more attention my sagging jawline. It’s subjective, I guess.

  • @lolitakaloustianyoung7787

    Hi Katie - new subscriber & I laughing out loud! You could be describing me and the conversation I have with my 'Type A' self OFTEN. My hair, too, needs the weight to keep it from flipping out at the bottom, and when I cut it even to chin length it becomes very wavy. My suggestion to you is to simply have the bottom 'yellowing' few inches cut off and leave it long.. I now air dry my hair for the reason and leave it long, or - my favorite - pull it back into an elegant low ponytail. Don't cut it 'short' - you look beautiful and a trim will take care of the yellowing ends. You will hate the fuss of short hair - trust me....much more upkeep and 'fuss'. Thanks for this and your 'product' video - great!

    I would go with what would look best for your face shape. A long bob with a layer that stops just below your cheek bones would look lovely. Look at european short styles... nothing boxy but stylish and full of motion. That would be more flattering to you than the long style. Nothing to do with age.

    I've already tried all kinds of hairstyles. Long hair is easy, you don't have to keep up the hairdresser appointments. Putting it up is easy and creates the same look as short hair.
    I'm not attached to it for a lot of the reasons other people are...lots of styles are cool.

    ❤ I’m going to go with don’t chop it off. I also hate hair touching my face with a bob etc. I love seeing my long grey hair in all the colors and textures it chooses to do for me as it grows. And so many styling options. I don’t have the hang of what styles I could try or would work with my hair. Also I have chronic illnesses that sap my energy and cause pain. Making doing different styles draining or impossible. I’m considering getting a blow dryer. Joli recommended a good one recently. But I haven’t used heat or any styling tools in over 15 years. I do enjoy playing with my hair and I will braid sometimes. Mostly it’s up in a bun or just down and not done any specific style. I will be subscribing to see what you come up with and maybe you’ll inspire me. Your hair is beautiful and I think you will be sad if you cut it off. Plus you’ll be annoyed when you’re drinking your G&T and your hair keeps getting in your eyes or face. I’m happy you’re waiting before making a big decision. And if you cut please donate.

    Yes I do spend weeks talking myself in or out of cutting my long hair, I’m transitioning to grey and yo yo between carrying on or giving in to having colour. My hair was fairly long and I felt it looked a bit witch like so I’ve had it cut to shoulder length. It’s fine but I prefer long hair but I agree with all your negative points too! At the moment the hair on my crown is very white making my pink scalp more visible which I really don’t like. I’m trying to hang on to see what happens when I’m finally all grey!! Perhaps that will change. This is not an easy process and I keep wanting to give in to re colouring but I’m fed up the time and expense. But will I just look like a little old lady!!! 😂 Your honest comments made me laugh and struck a chord. Very helpful so thanks 🙏

    First, I want to say thank you so much for the inspiration you’ve given me to grow out my silvery gray hair. In answer to your question about cutting your hair, you might just try cutting off 3 inches to get rid of the yellow ends. Also, I wanted to suggest, a dry oil mist by OGX, it’s called nourishing coconut oil it’s weightless and it’s a dry oil. It’s only about seven dollars at Target. Spray it on dry hair, It adds shine and it reduces any frizzies. It will give your hair some new life. Also, I was previously a brunette, but still have some darker eyebrows, they have become a little patchy, but I have found that Benefit has a brow, micro filling, pen in light brown that fills in nicely without being too dark or harsh, and for any grays popping out I use Benefit, “precisely, my brow wax”. Like you don’t want any dark, or hard line eyebrows, eyebrows should be soft and frame the eye lightly. Best of luck in your decision we support you no matter what you choose. Again, thank you for all your encouragement. be well!

    I’d love my long, curly, grey-haired self to have a wolf cut on the shorter side. Sort of a Joan Jett vibe. For some color fun, try fairy hair; multicolor shimmer strands throughout your hair. No dye commitment, you can cut and style as normal and they fall out when your strand does. Just some thoughts

    You won’t have the pyramid look if it is cut right. I have waist length white hair. I do wear it up a lot, which is great because it is easy and exposing the neck is so cooling. I am thinking of going shorter, but it has to be a style where I don’t need hot tools because those cause yellowing. I have never used a blow dryer or hot curler on my hair since letting it grow out. I do expose it to the sun, which is not good, so I use purple conditioner to counteract the yellow. One of the hazards of living in Hawaii. I do get what you say about long hair when older seems to be looked down upon by some. They are entitled to their bad opinions lol.

    I understand remembering why we grow our hair out regardless of color. My hair has reached my mid back and the triangle look a sad style. I had my stylist cut into a U shape. I use professional shampoo which has a lilac tint. Pureology hydrating. So I don’t see any yellow. I installed a water filter from home depot to my shower head to keep water from depositing unwanted residue. I invested in Dyson airwrap and airstait which minimizes my need to heat style as much. I use a leave in conditioner, Pureology, heat protection for either blow dry or hot tools, yes, there is a difference. Most of these tip u got from the Blowout Professor, even though he would never suggest $600 hair tool.
    And hair oil is a necessity with my texture of hair. Hope you consider working smarter with your hair style rather than giving up to the ✂️ Take care

    • @KatieGoesPlatinum
      @KatieGoesPlatinum  Před 28 dny

      Hi! I have a gray hair website where I talk about all of these excellent tips and help educate other women on gray hair care as well. So I do understand how to take care of my gray hair and how to avoid yellowing - but even with my hair shower filter, protecting my hair from the sun and from heat damage, etc. I still ended up with some yellowing. 🤷‍♀️
      All I can think is that I experimented too much with the Dyson Airwrap when I first got it (even though I use UV protectant and thermal protectant before it touches my hair, I use it on low heat or no heat, and on the lowest blow possible)- I had SO much trouble (and I still still have trouble) getting it to create lasting curls I think I just used it too much and left it on for too long.
      Lesson learned - my fine hair is very prone to yellowing, so I think I need to either forego any hot tools whatsoever (including the Airwrap), or I just need to be able to live with some yellowing. I’m leaning towards the latter ♥️

    Miserable today!!!! Been growing out my grey/silver for the past 3 months and I’ve been really proud of it!! Then yesterday my step family came round and felt the need to ask why I don’t go to the hairdressers and get it died grey if that’s what I aiming to do. Honestly I know I have demarcation and the died hair is brassy, but I’ve personally been happy because I thought it looked more like the sun had highlighted it. I know I have a long way to go but I did think I would get even a single compliment from someone who would say they could imagine what it’s going to look like when it’s fully grown out. The silver will suit my complexion so much more. Still it’s pulled me down quite a lot and I’m just going to pick myself up again and carry on ❤

    I keep mine collarbone length. Every summer , I get tempted to cut it short and be done. But I love the ease of a quick updo or pony tail in the heat and humidity. It takes longer to shampoo , condition BUT , I don’t need to get up , shampoo and style every single morning. My hair is thick , wavy and it just will not cooperate with whatever dream styles I see with shorter hair. Plus I’m not that handy with or eager to spend time and energy styling every day. If things were different, I would cut it. But I Always end up growing out short styles and it’s a misery I don’t want to experience again.

And of course: it does grow back! 🙂 (Btw I just tried to dye my blond hair gray today and it turned out mostly blue... 😆But no regrets. It might look nice after it's washed a few times. For a lot of my life, it was in a chin-length bob, but I can't be bothered with styling one now, so shoulder-length is the best option for me - it can be up, down, robe-curled or straight, and it's easy to accessorise with pretty clips and bands, etc.

    Do you fantasize about shorter hair? That's how you know if something is right for you, always. I wore my hair boy short for about 15 years, and I clearly remember lusting after shorter styles, and keeping photos of Jean Seberg. Then, after all those years (and a breakup) I decided to wear it long like I had it as a girl. I'm equally comfortable with long and short hair. Not so much during the intermediate phase in which I looked like Astroboy and was so relieved when I finally got to a bob lenght. I might consider a pixie cut again when I go gray. Or maybe not. I might be a gray curly lady.

      Hi, Gabriela! That's a great way to figure out if you want a certain hairstyle. I have to admit that I've never fantasized about having short hair - my hair fantasies are always long hair or bobbed hair, so that confirms for me that short hair is not for me. I love that you go between short pixies and long hair - that' s a great contrast! I love Jean Seberg's look. ♥️

I always wear it in a pony or half up, never down. Thinking of going back to shoulder length which is versatile and I don't feel ridiculous wearing it down. I find it to be more versatile than my long hair because I am more willing to blow it out, create waves or braids, and I can clip it up easily without pin, or throw it into a pony tail. the high messy bun does require pin and i never do it. I think i might die with this haircut, but then again, I am always looking for ways to lighten my mental load. I like having a makeup and a haircut that I can handle quickly and without much thought.

    Don't buy the "bobs are easy" lie! A bob needs to be washed and blow dried every day to look good. And it really gets in the way for sport, yoga etc. I often had a pixie cut too, when I was younger, but the older you get the more important it is to find a great stylist (if you want to avoid looking frumpy), and visiting that stylist every few months to maintain the shape. Then, of course, the long and awkward phase when growing it out. These days I keep my hair fairly long - between my collar bone and my armpits. It's long enough to wear in a bun, or pony tail. This is by far the easiest and most versatile hair style (apart from a shaved head - there is a reason those nuns shear their hair off to avoid wasting their time on vanity)! I don't think your ends look yellowy but I love the idea of playing around with a tints and colours!
