Days of Future Passed was released in the UK on 11 Nov 1967. It was not an immediate hit. Most people didn't know what to make of a pop-rock band album with orchestral interludes between the songs. The Moodies did a French TV studio concert early in January 1968. Then a few days later they played the MIDEM (Marche International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale) festival in Cannes on 24 Jan 68. This was the breakout performance of Nights In White Satin. By early February Nights was #1 in France and held the #1 spot for 3 months. The importance of this appearance and the French demand for the Moodies during the very dark years of 66 and 67 should not be underestimated. If you love the Moodies and want to know the details of the very convoluted path that brought the Moodies (all from Birmingham except Justin from Swindon) pick up a copy of Marc Cushman's excellent research book "Long Distance Voyagers".

John Lodge sang the high falsetto that made Nights and so many other songs sound ethereal when drenched in reverb. Lodge was sleeping with the cameraman's wife, so that is why you don't see him much on camera.
