It's really interesting to listen to him in the 1970s and listen to him now. He is really the same! He describes the gigs, the experiences, his opinions, all the same way now as he did 50 years ago. He was very mature young man.

Justin is a great guy, met him years ago he was going into see his mum at the hospital and I was dropping my mum off, we spoke for a while about music and then him and his wife went in with my mum, a moment I will never forget, looking forward to his show in the hall for Cornwall next month.

I had the honor of meeting him twice. He really is so incredibly kind. He told me he’d always thought The Moodies would have been more popular. I told him if he were more popular he’d be the King of England, lol 😂 … he chuckled. Justin to me is the poet Laureate of the UK. 💜🎶❤️

Just by accident in 1983 I came across Songwriter, without hesitation I purchased the. LP and played it over and over, then taped it mainly for fear that the record would become unplayable, and to give me something to accompany me on driving longish distances in the car. Although the LP doesn’t feature the mellotron (as was the norm in Moodies’ songs) it gives another dimension to a member of the greatest band...each track is different and love the harmonies from family members. Songwriter ,for me, is a timeless masterpiece

Anyone that has ever road-ed a Mellotron knows to carry 2 of them, and even then keep your fingers crossed -- It is fortunate that Pinder used his military time to learn some electronics and worked for Mellotron before the Moodies and knew enough to repair them -- I used to be a fairly good mellotron tech but I always kept mine in the corner of a studio

Thanks for the post. This is a real gem. After the Moody's took a break, (They never announced a break-up.) solo albums came out. Songwriter in my 18th year was really powerful and technically w/the guitar overdubs, studio wizardry etc. it is his finest work. So, this behind the scenes from that time...my God 46 years later is a real treat.

The comments of JH from 12:27 are fascinating - three times over the next minute he reiterates the point that the Moodies are, at that point 1977, over - implying that they didn't just take a break after the 1974 tour but a line had been drawn and the band was finished. I'm not sure the official Moody history puts it in such a stark way. But it is underlined by the band cover picture on 1978's unexpected comeback album Octave, with the five members exiting through a doorway (into the light), and then on the inside of the gatefold cover they are coming back again through the door towards the camera. It seemed like they had ended, but they came back. Although spookily on the cover as they are walking away (into the light) you can see hardly anything of Mike Pinder, who did disappear from the Moodies fold never to return... 'One Step Into the Light' indeed, the title of his sole song on Octave.

I wonder why Justin didn't do an album with his wife, she sounds a good singer.
I just wish Justin and the lads had had kept style they had on A Question of Balance, for me that was their peak. Justin is some guitarist, and so is Mike Pinder too despite being a bit obsessed by the Melloton. Justin done a guitar solo on tract 2 of AQOB "How is it we are here" (Pinder) and I just wish had done more of that heavier stuff.

I love England. Every time I work on an English bike Beatles tunes go through my mind and I think of the people who originally built it. I think about the origins of my country and how fortunate I am to have been born free.
I think about how England doesn’t trust its citizens with knives alone, guns, and did America even own a canon and shoot it.
I think about the British invasion of the 60s and how English bands sought to learn the roots of rock ‘n’ roll, which was the blues, which came from descendants of slaves. I think about the guy who wrote the hymn amazing Grace; all that. I think about how England is now just about 100% atheist and largely Muslim.
