    Excellent review Pete, thanks mate. This vid is three years old so you've probably found out by now that the circles on the turret are locating marks for the the range finders for the Hobbyboss 84533 kit of the July 1945 version which was to be the next series of upgrades for the King Tiger but the war ended before any were produced.

      Hi mate. Yeah, bit scary to think this review was 3 years ago. Glad you enjoyed it. Actually, never got around to reseaching those marks, so thanks for the info. Makes me wonder if Hobby Boss's researchers had access to either Henschel's original plans, or, a late production Tiger II turret. Either way, very cool detail! Thanks mate!

    I want to chime in on the panel line issue. It's nice to hear someone sharing my view. I try to make my builds look the way real machines would appear scaled down. Being a mechanic I can tell you that if I came across a machine with huge groves between the panels I'd ground the thing instantly. Real airplanes don't look like that!

    • @PetesKits
      @PetesKits Před 2 dny

      Exactly! I'm the same. Always try to make my builds the way a real subject looks, or would look. Tanks and AFV's in the field don't get mega rust. Scratches, dents, smears, but not waves of rust rolling down the sides. Same with aircraft, having been around a variety of aircraft, I'd be sh*t scared to see one with big grooves instead of butt joints. Unless she was an SR 71. That baby was built with grooves for a very specific reason! Cheers mate!

    Great review as I just picked this up from my club meet yesterday. You mentioned Trumpeter has a version of this too. Do you have any recommendations on PE sets, etc. that will make this kit as detailed as Trumpters?

    • @PetesKits
      @PetesKits Před 7 dny

      Thank you. Glad you liked the review. Yes, Trumpeter has their own K-5, Kit No. 00207, (released 2003) and Eduard does/did make a PE set (#35678) for that, but, not for this Dragon K-5, and as far as I know, no one does. However, since they are both 1/35 scale, both K-5's, chances are that Eduard's Trumpeter PE will fit this Dragon kit, but you may have to make some adjustments or allowances, for the any differences, but from what I've seen, this set is mainly small details, so it should be fine to use. While it won't make Dragon's gun as detailed as Trumpeter's (there's a huge part count difference just in the bogie sections), it will enhance it. Hope this helps! Enjoy the build! Cheers!

      @@PetesKits No problem, I wasn't being picky but I know how important accuracy is to modellers! Although production of the No.4 started in late 1941 it never got to N Africa, Tunisia or the Far East although there are photo's that show it late in the Italian and Burma campaigns in 1945. The No.4 equipped all the commonwealth forces in NW Europe from June 1944 where it was standard, and remained so until replaced by the FN FAL in 1957.

      Hi mate, As far as buildability, they're Tamiya kits, and there's never a problem there, and will go together just like this Marder II. As far as the actual variants, the Marder III was just an improvement, the early models, had the Soviet 7.62cm gun, stuck on top of the hull, and the later M's had the Pak 40, mounted in a proper superstructure towards the rear. I've recently picked up a Tamiya Marder III early type, and hope to have a review of it out shortly. Hope this answers your question (a little bit at least). Cheers!

The 1/35 Italeri S-boot looks great but it is very large! (and not cheap!). Their latest re-issue comes with mines which is nice. (350AUD!!) The numbers go on the mines as per the box artwork 🙂. Production numbers ? I imagine they would wear/wash off in the ocean pretty quickly. Cheers Matt.

    I have two of these in my stash. One I plan to paint dark Panzer gray, simply because I like that color, the other will be dark yellow with green and red-brown camouflage. Both of them will get aftermarket workable tracks. This kit came out the same year I did: 1961.

    Hi Pete, one year on from my last comment and I have finally started to assemble these figures. I was wondering if you had found time to assemble these yourself yet? There are two things that I have noticed about the kit that you didn't bring up in your review. The first is that this kit, unlike a lot of other Tamiya German figure kits, doesn't come with helmet decals, the other thing is that the helmets themselves seem to be really oversize for the figures, an image of Rick Moranis in the Spaceballs movie springs to mind each time I look at them. I haven't glued them on yet but I'm seriously thinking about looking through the spares box for replacements.

    • @PetesKits
      @PetesKits Před 22 dny

      Hi Martin. Must admit I haven't given these a good look at, since I did the review (and that was 3 years ago. My God, has it been that long??), but, I have made myself promise, for every vehicle I do, I have to do a figure set too, from now on. So maybe these will finally see the light of day (and some glue and paint). These guys are wearing Mid to Late war uniforms etc, (1943 on), and by this time, at least at the front, helmet decals have seen their day. Although I have seen late war film of helmets with decals, these are usually re-issued early helmets, for Volksturm units etc. As for the size of the helmets in this kit, I never noticed it, but, now that you've mentioned it, even in the pics of the actual figures on the back, they do look a tad "Spacebally". Great pick up mate. Might check it all out in the morning (it's 11pm our time). Cheers Mate!

      @@PetesKits Good point about the mid war uniforms, that never occurred to me. I have so far managed to find four replacement helmets which really alter the look of the figures, the kit helmets are way too big to be useable without looking silly. Cheers Pete.

    Hi Pete. My thoughts as well price wise. I saw the 2020 release in a pile of Italeri for just over $60. Further down in the pile I saw the 2010 release for $30. (AUD) Different decals, 3 schemes. Nice kit for $30 (now in my pile of Italeri). I have their 1/48 Autoblinda AB 41 which is really nice as well (for $28). Accidently bought some 1/48 GMC 6x6 resin wheels (thought they were 1/35 - brain fade!) so now I have Tamiya's 1/48 US Refuelling Truck too! Thanks for the review and the cool photos of it in use. Hi Matt. Glad you liked the review. Yeah. It is a bit odd the way the prices for virtually the same kit, but "updated" with different decals, are set. Currently have my eye on Tamiya's 1/48 US refueller at $30 Au, but I haven't seen Italeri's 1/48 Autoblinda for ages. And don't worry we all suffer from brain fade. Hi Pete. The figures are from Miniart. They are "German Soldiers with Fuel Drums", kit no. 35366, painted up as Luftwaffe troops. They fitted the bill perfectly for troops to push the V-1.
