Hello, i am 63 years old…and still have my XT500 from 1981…also for more than 43 years!! Such a Great bike…

I bought a '72 750 it felt sluggish. Had it only a month and it was stolen. Insurance sent me to different dealership to get a new one. That one was a bullet. Found out that that so many were being sold Honda was putting '73 engines in '72's. In '73 catalytic converters were mandated dropping the HP from 72 to 55. That explained why the first one was sluggish. Glad the first one was stolen.

This man knows his stuff. I was more of a two-stroke man back in the day. My first Yamaha 1975 dt400. Never was able to have a mini bike or go-kart when I was young. That was my very first bike, so you know what they say go big or go home. I want it big how's the tall dude at the time hadn't started developing my beer gut yet. And I explored a lot of trails in fire breaks especially around lake Murray. Later felt the need for speed. So I made a trade the fastest 2-stroke that Yamaha had to offer. Being 1974 Rd 350 Yamaha. Still hadn't developed much of a beer gut maybe a teeny bit. If I was going too fast and saw the law. The lord gave up because I was gone and ducking and there was no video cameras thank God. The 70s were wild and crazy.

Absolutely one of my favorite bikes. Probably the most comfortable one ever made. Pure 1980s style from a 1970s model. Truly, this is thee bike of the "coolest guy in town" of its era. Choppers, road cruisers might look nice but they aren't comfortable. Sports bikes definitely arent comfortable. Mopeds can be even more comfortable than this, along with the beautiful honda grom, and, a grom is cheap to customize unless you want it to be too fast. I personally prefer a specific style of moped over everything. Oh yeah, a dirt bike is up there with the cb750 for comfort but its not as cool. Dirt bikes are still cool but people tend to expect stunts. I like cruising. If you are cool, youll be cooler cruising than doing stunts. Especially if you are cool AND your vehicle is nice.

It's absolutely hilarious that an American 1000cc v-twin from 1913 gets the same mileage as my 1000cc Japanese inline 4 DOHC. We don't need to talk about other performance characteristics, just that the mileage is similar is funny.

I have one I can buy right now. Rode it a few days ago. My problem. I haven't rode in a LONG time and I was nervous on gravel and well.... the thing has some snort I was never exposed to. Should I buy it? I'm even in a position where my boss is lending me his sons old 82 xt200.... so I can get my confidence up. No major problems from what I could see other than normal wear and tear. Started easily which I was most nervous of...... Just need some suggestions

This is all very true. I got the opportunity in 2003 to rent one in Italy and ride from Rome to Monaco France and back I'm 6 ft tall and I felt like I was riding a dirt bike the whole time it was so much fun. So much fun I ended up buying a 2000 900ie. In typical Ducati standards it has eaten up my third battery and a starter. No worries though I love the bike and plan on many years of fun to come

LOOKING AT THE SMALL PHOTO IN THE MANUAL OF THE SYNCHRONIZER, I REALIZED I NEEDED TO PURCHASE FOUR "NEEDLE VALVES" AT THE AQUARIUM STORE TO DAMPEN THE INTAKE PULSATIONS. I BUILT A COPPER MANIFOLD AND ATTACHED THE FOUR DISASSEMBLED GAUGES TO A VACUUM PUMP (AN OLD REFRIGERATOR COMPRESSOR) AND LEARNED TO CALIBRATE THE ANEROID GAUGES BY BENDING THE BOURDON TUBE SO THAT THEY ALL TRACKED EACH OTHER, THEY DIDN'T COME THAT WAY FROM THE FACTORY! I CUT THE BUNDY TUBING INTO LENGTHS, AND BRAZED IT TO THE METRIC SCREWS THAT I HAD DRILLED AND ADDED RUBBER O-RINGS. I thought this was totally hilarious. Especially when I grew up by my oil for Malcolm Smith personally for my motorcycle. And raced on the same track as David, Earl Dana. And Dan VSCO and Reggie Pridmore so this is totally hilarious. I love it.

I have just sent Sammy Miller a large photograph of a YALE motorcycle ( the Lock Company ) They produced motorcycles between 1902 - 1915. I found the picture here in Thailand, at a sale, where I live. It was a single cylinder, probably 500 cc but they also made a vee twin, probably 1000cc.

I completely randomly ended up here and the dry humour got me.

I saw my 1st G45 about 1954 at Alton Towers when they had a motorcycle short track there. I was riding an ex WD G3 at the time.

Had one but the camshaft bearings picked up. Common problem. Put a 810 over bore competition clutch F2 box. The cam picked up again. Dropped it.

Did he say only 32 bhp, I had a 1976 low exhaust model,, adn I currently ride a RE classic 500. I would have thought the overhead cam engine on the Yammy was making more power than my classic by more than a couple of bhp, the RD 400 I had prior to the XT500 made 44bhp.
