    Hello Tony 🙂 How are you ? I'd like to ask about the sizing of the Berghaus MTN Arete jacket if I could please? I'm thinking I may buy one for my upcoming trip to the UK. Hi Andy Mine is medium Seems good good fit . I'd get a bit under it . It's not over sized to my mind. I'm 80kg 5'8". I'd probably stick with large unless your my size weight then medium might be ok. You're on social media you can always DM me and I'll send a photo or little vid to show sizing more

    Another weirdly entertaining video. 1000 fillpower is sensational stuff but I find it takes a while to loft fully. In other words, my sleeping bag seems much warmer after an hour than when I first get into it. Also, I think P.H.D are conservative in their ratings. I have what was their lightest sleeping bag last year and, on one occasion, woke to find ice all over the tent and a frosty, white world outside, a complete surprise as I had been warm throughout the night.

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs Před 3 hodinami

      That's good to know re your thoughts on ratings as mostly all I hear is that they are not as warm as stated. I find I'm a cold sleeper when the temps cold But when above freezing I seem to get away with a bag lighter than what I'm in. Like your experience. Although 10c bag in frost probably would be pushing it. Yeah I do love their stuff.

    Great as always Tony! I'm glad to see you're using the Sea-to-Summit pillow.. Ditto. I've developed my own hiking philosophy which I should perhaps market with some catchy acronyms & who knows, this time next year I'll be a millionaire? My latest self-appointed acronym is HNSPa (Hydration, Nutrition, Sleep, Packweight). We see thru-hikers on CZcams banging on about packweights of sub 6lb, but many of them seem to think they can subsist on Raymans noodles, jelly babies, pizza and sleep on a 1/8" sleeping pad. Great. But the law according to HNSPa ensures you're hydrated first, nutritionally sustained with carbs, proteins, vitamins, minerals and micronutrients.. these are the priorities, followed by QUALITY OF SLEEP, ie. a sleep system that allows us to fully sleep comfortably for 8-9hrs to let all those micronutrients repair our cells as we dream. THEN, packweight. Packweight comes 4th after Hydration, Nutrition and Sleep. Take care of the first three and a 10kg pack will feel like a 5kg pack. Eat crap and sleep unwell and you'll feel crap regardless of an ultralight backpacking set up. That sub-6lb pack will feel a burden. Here's to more of your belches Tony! 😊

    I prefer the bivi's that have hoops and keep the fabric away from your head, like the RAB Ridge raider, but in Summer time a Bivi will suffice:) Nice to see the Peak District again.

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs Před 8 dny

      Hi Sandy, the best by far is the MLDeVent Soul bivy. It is very very similar to this one, it has a hoop (I removed it) and a small mesh panel that can be opened or fully sealed as in this, mine is a large so next size up from this. I removed the hoop as its not really needed and I'd rather more packability and save 20g or whatever it is. That Rab looks very uncomforatable to get in and out vs this which isnt easy but easily doable from the bivy vs standing on grass and crawling in out. It is 850g this is 250g ish. At 850g I see no point in a bivy I'd prefer a tarp or light tent like enan. I'd not easily be able to sit up in it or make tea eat etc. This was easy. Both in rain need doing up. Once snuggled up the material on face head is imaterial as your kind of snuggled up. One day we should pitch them together and do all pros cons and thoughts on them. This one I got primarily for emergency use in Scotland as emergency lightweight waterproof bivy. I was quite impressed as a stand alone like this. My only concern was how slippery it was! I'm not sure if it was the foam mat or the new poly floor., But it was a problem getting it not to slip everywhere. Maybe me. I'll use it again for sure to see. I was surprisingly surprised how good it was. Thank you for watching Sandy.

    Great video / show. As always!!! Have you ever thought of , or ever used a sleeping bag liner , it usually brings the sleeping bag rating up by 10 degrees... Also if you have an old sleeping bag , that you never use, or get a slightly used one , you can cut it down to size and Sow the edges back... Instantly a sleeping bag for your dog, and its a lot cheaper, I mean a lot cheaper....

    Have you been to iceland Tony? I'm debating bringing my Slingfin 1p or investing in either the Akto (heavier) or MLD Duomid. Not sure which woudl survive wind the best without tons of weight.

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs Před 9 dny

      Had to look it up looks similar to MSR shelters Hilleberg Enan lighter. But Duomid with inner if midges are around (?) Good option. Light and spacious. Never been to Iceland. I'd like to get to Sweden if a friend is able to meet me there for a few days next year.

      @@TonyHobbs Basically i'm debating a mid/pyramid style tent vs. a "tunnel" type tent for high wind conditions.

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs Před 9 dny

      How windy are you expecting and will sheltered spots be available Another option. MLD Trailstar with inner if midges or no inner just groundsheet unless snow falling....

    • @neilquinn
      @neilquinn Před 9 dny

      @@TonyHobbs It's always a bit of a gamble, but the main problem with iceland is that there will be few sheltered type areas, very wide open, and can hit extremely high winds. Obviously at some point any tent will fail but want to find something decent. Example storm: czcams.com/video/O255e1-NgzI/video.html - "In the highlands, wind speeds reach 18 m/s (40 mph) on 50 days a year."

    • @TonyHobbs
      @TonyHobbs Před 9 dny

      I'd be using MLD Trailstar Nothing better for those conditions

      Hi. Excellent. I've bought all three colours so I don't run out lol they comfy grippy and quite cushioned given zero drop for my ankles out there zero mandatory keeps me ground level and no fulcrum to twist ankle
