After seeing this video, I’m chomping at the bit to get out and experiment!

Ive had your post stacked up for three weeks! and this cold Saturday night was the night. today on a raw, huge wild beach I saw a gorgeous young family of four struggling to take selfies in parkas and wind, so I raced over to them , using his phone, I caught the incredible soft sundown around them, on a log, no-one for miles,( until walkers come around the huge rock in the shot) and they glowed like a holy family, they were thrilled. sometimes it's enough... I don't need the pic. Your tips are So good, thankyou!

Thank you for your video Tim. i would like to mention that learning how to print could help you grow. and still not sure which fuji to get. wait for the E5 or X100VI or maybe get a second hand leica. size is a thing and the higher megapixel race is holding me back, different look and higher noise in higher megapixels'. what are your thoughts?

Thanks for this video, I feel the same about my "approach" to photography...my question is: How do you get closer to people with a camera??? In my experience - in this day and age - taking a photo of people comes with suspicion and occasionally confrontation. I never even bother raising my camera if anyone under 18 is nearby, let alone kids. How do you take photos without - for lack of better word, "suspicion"??

Wow you have people walking on the street which is amazing! We spent most of the time on highway and traffic in cars which makes it extremely hard for street photographers like myself 🫠 plus the killer heat

What makes a good photo subject in street photography

While I wholeheartedly agree that even small(er) towns will have strange moments, I sort of disagree with the idea of hiding behind a camera when such moments occur, rather than involving yourself. Become the interesting thing you wish to find.

I've been shooting 35mm and 40mm for the most part. I prefer 35mm the 23mm F/2 Fujicron is what I usually default to on my cameras, but I recently got a TT Artisans 27mm f/2.8 as a gift, and have been experimenting with it. It is definitely a little tighter, and it works well around my home town which is a bit more suburban than in the cities I take my street photography trips to. I have had luck with even wider lenses for night shooting in very crowded cities like Tokyo. I've used a 20mm equivalent (13mm Viltrox f/1.4) in some of the smaller side streets like Omoide Yokocho and gotten quite good results.

Can't really say anything about the ratings - thats fully up to taste if you ask me. What i like about this video is you being very honest and showing how it really is. Finding a good scene - missing the perfect moment/look/composition and then moving on to the next opportunity until, once every few weeks or even months, we get a really great one. Doing street photography is not for the impatient.

I used to do a lot of street/candid a few years back, weren't bad either. I now live in Germany and Frankfurt and Hanau are my hunting grounds. Thanks for the inspiration

Plus ditch raws for jpegs, zoom lenses for primes, af for manual, and color for b&w, That's my preferred approach. Maybe someone else is gonna like it too.

Does street photography need to have people in it? Can I, for example, take photos of buildings, animals, statues and other objects too?
