The 11foo8 bridge is a railroad trestle over Gregson St in Durham, North Carolina and it has earned a reputation for for its rigorous enforcement of the laws of physics. No truck taller than 11 feet and 8 inches will pass under this stubborn piece of infrastructure. Period. On this channel we document the various attempts of hapless drivers trying to get past this bridge. Some try to be sneaky, some try to be quick, some try to argue, but the bridge always wins. There is a reason why the locals call it the "canopener!"
So if you're driving a truck, please let these videos be a warning not to argue with low bridges. They have the law (of physics) on their side. Just heed the warnings and drive a different route. Be safe, y'all.

Clash of the giants at the 11foot8+8 bridge
zhlédnutí 1,4MPřed 2 měsíci
On May 6th, a recycling truck challenged the 11foot8 bridge to a sort-of jousting duel. In this clash of the steel giants the old canopener got a bit rattled but I don't know that the truck escaped completely unscathed. This was crash #182 since 2008.
Roof modification at the 11foot8+8 bridge

Another truck triggers the warning lights at the bridge, but the traffic lights are slow to change due to the pedestrian lights. Will the driver see the warning sign? Or will the truck end up with a slight modification to the the roof?
Was this a bump or a high-five at the 11foot8+8 bridge?

A while ago (like, last year) this boxtruck hit the canopener, bridge, but maybe it was actually a high-five from truck to bridge ... what do you think? (I forgot to upload it at the time, but better late then never - right?) I am counting this as crash #179 (and high-five #1).

A few days ago this truck challenged the canopener bridge ... watch the video to see who won! ... ... ... It may be debatable whether this truck-bridge encounter qualifies as a "crash" but instead of calling it "encounter #180" let's just stick with calling it crash #180.
Boxtruck crash sprays debris at the 11foot8 bridge

Only the second crash this year at the 11foot8 bridge, but on July 6 a box truck driver ignored the warning signals and hit the crash beam of the canopener bridge. Pieces of the roof were scattered all over the road! This was crash # 178 since 2008.
Speeding truck runs red light and hits the 11foot8+8 bridge
zhlédnutí 1,1MPřed rokem
After a veeery long dry spell, the canopener snagged some pieces off of a red-light running rental truck. The truck came down Gregson Street at a good clip, most likely faster than the 25MpH speed limit, ran the light by a solid 2 seconds and ended up leaving a couple of pounds of metal debris under the bridge. After a short break - presumably to assess the damage - the driver decided to contin...
Another left turn crash at the 11foot8+8 bridge

Camper trailer loses equipment at the 11foot8+8 bridge
zhlédnutí 2,1MPřed 2 lety
The last 4 months were quiet at the canopener bridge - presumably due to construction and frequent road closures on Gregson St. right at the bridge and on the stretch south of the tracks. However yesterday, on April 26 - a camper trailer had some of its rooftop equipment removed at the canopener bridge. This was recorded as crash # 175 since April 2008.

////// Support us on Patreon at www.patreon.com/11foot8 \\\\\\ On December 6, 2021 a box truck made a left onto Gregson St and made contact with the canopener bridge. Trucks turning from Peabody St onto Gregson should be able to see the low-clearance sign at the stop light, but if the driver is not aware of the truck's clearance requirements, that information might not help. no way the bridge is OK. you could see that whole section come up.
convertable trucs
Penske is hiring. Again.
I am guessing many of the drivers are foreign born. The US and two other small countries are the only ones that still use the imperial (English) measuring system. Maybe posting these low bridges in metric also would save a lot of grief. If you are not born into it then maybe you just don't realize the conversion factor?
That's not a mechanical arm for garbage bins, it's a bridge raiser device.
The bridge wins again. This had everything. The can opener in action. The train horn blowing, and the pedestrian running to the side. I wonder if his pants turned brown 😂
This is no rental truck--you expect something better from somebody presumably holding a CDL!😮😅
MVP for the lady that shouted out "Why would you do that? You've got to be the dumbest MotherBleeper in America!"
Then they paved 6 inches higher underneath it Make a dip inder the bridge; It will slow people down and give them a little extra room
This is quite nothing. One time I caught a guy lifting up the hanging clearance bar to the entrance of an underground parking. He seemed to be very happy he could get thru. I asked what are you going to do under there? Lift the building? Lol the look on his face. Funny thing is he was an Engineer.
For the life of me, why can’t they put a pre-test plastic vibrating whacker that hits the top of your roof reminding you that you’re about to hit the bridge so that you stop and turn? Can ‘t there be a warning system like there is on a wrong way driver?
Running a red light too what an idiot
Oh, the stupidity of humans.
they should put a sign up warning drivers of the danger.
A simple idea here: why not a setup that the over height detector triggers several LARGE red lights at the intersection that stay on, with green right and left arrows. And of course red lights for oncoming traffic coming under the bridge. No English comprehension required.
That's because you use this weird number. If you used meters like everyone around the world, people would understand and do not pass through it
False. It happens with the metric system as well: czcams.com/video/HR7NivKqfzo/video.html
He lost all HOPE 31 seconds in.
0:15 That Truck was acting like nothing happened
I am stuck on stupid and stupid stuck on me lol
"If I ran into the 11'8+8" bridge, it might give me a bit of trouble." "But would you lose?" "Nah, I'd win."
Thanks for the video. I always wondered what happened afterwards. It seems that some just keep driving like nothing happened. I'll bet between the insurance deductible, the ticket, and the tow truck, that was an expensive mistake.
I hear the driver has become the best potato peeler ever to wield a potato peeler.
the railroad raised the bridge. why cant the city lower the rd 10 inches. as pipes and wires can be relocated. or just block off the rd to all trucks, motorhomes, etc.
What an idiot!
Navy borrowed the truck
Army hard at work.
Beautiful peel
That'll do
Classic roof peel! The Can Opener Lives!
Lmao! It dragged that accordion down like a bride's dress! 😆
Not only can't these drivers read the signs, but ever one runs the red light trying to stop them.
Smart enough to back up when it bumped, not smart enough to heed the no left turn sign.
blue car pulled forward like yay c: i can go and then the truck started turning.
I'm a long haul truck driver. In both my CDL class and company training, instructors put these videos on as a reminder to always check clearance. "Don't end up on CZcams."
"that sign can't stop me because I can't read"
I'm surprised people aren't gathering around to watch the peels. Maybe have a judges table where they rate the peel with cards ranging from 1 to 10. 😅😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😊😊
Better get on your updates. Some guy just posted a hit that happened 5 days ago at your bridge...

noooo... don´t skip the train 💔
Did he just actually carry on driving?? Or is there somewhere further on to pull in?
Mrbeast needs to fix this bridge.
A BIRDGE IN DARIÉN CONNECTICUT HAS BEEN EATING TRUCKS SINCE THE 20s !!!
"You must turn." "We are the United States Army. We turn for nobody!" "We are a bridge. Your move."
Something im curious about is why the +8 was added. Was it because the original sign was incorrect, or maybe because you'd be more likely to pay attention to something you have to solve?
"I'm not overheight....okay, now I'm not overheight..."
"Just a little off the top, please."
Your exactly 12'4"
When you've got more tires than IQ points...
Gotta say that 'Overheight must turn' sign isn't that noticeable - it fades into view. Or atleast apart from 'I see yellow, that means it's fine to go' the guy wasn't seeing anything and thinking anything else.
