In celebration of "canopener day" on 11/8 we're posting this video of the crashes since last November, after the bridge was raised. Despite the COVID lockdown the bridge still snagged 9 trucks or campers in the last 12 months. We hope you enjoy this compilation! - Auta a dopravní prostředky

I was about to say that lol

For real though
Hahaha imagine

Bridge: *"OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN" "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN" "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN"*
Truck driver: I wonder what that's all about.
Bridge: Nom-nom-nom.
"BIG TRUCK TURN AT INTERSECTION" would be better at avoiding accidents
@@emilior934 Drivers should know the height of their trucks if they work for a company, that company should display height signs in the cab of the truck so the driver cannot say he didn't know the height (a bit different if you're just a civilian towing a large camper but still you should make an effort to measure the height) and have the book thrown at them for not knowing or just ignoring the height signs.
@@derekdelboytrotter8881 drivers in general: "who is this "overheight" guy and why does the sign is asking him to turn?" * *CRASHES* * whereas my proposal would make them think: "oh, big truck, thats me! , I should turn! "
@@derekdelboytrotter8881 I think some drivers are getting distracted by the traffic light. They're focusing on getting through the intersection before it turns red and not paying attention to the sing
At least based on experience at my work, I am not sure truck drivers can read. They have a machine here that drivers use that clearly say "after putting in code press *" under where you put in the pin and yet something like 80 percent of them hit # instead and then stand there wondering why their door didn't open.
The ear-rattling sounds of thousands of dollars worth of instant damage cracks me up every time.
There is something satisfying about it, yeah?
The comedic timing of that blue car driving away is just perfect
They raised the bridge, they put signs on both sides, a glowing orange metal bar and even a blinking digital sign informing about the height, and yet, people are still to dense to read / care and crash into it... xD
Why not figure out the average height of trucks and raise the bridge to above that level? Lower the road under the bridge if needed.
@@garybuder4645 From what i read in the wikipedia article to the bridge, it is not possible to lower the street. Not sure why, but they considered it but it's simply not possible. Also the train bridge can't be raised to much, without heavy rework on the entire train track.
@@garybuder4645 legal height is 13'6" so this bridge is not that much shorter. But come on.. the signs are pretty obvious.
@@LuminaryGames thing is, all these trucks just BARELY get caught. If it was the current legal height of 13'6 most of these would not be happening
I think the Penske trucks would clear if they hugged the curb. Looks like it's only clipping on the left because of the runoff grading to the road.
At this point they might as well add a sign that reads:
"Penske must turn".
And people will still crash into it with big bold letters
Should read, "Penske increase speed"
"Hey, do a wheelie!"
They’ll just go faster... lol

@@punker4Real This is not true. If the renter purchases the Damage Waiver (different from insurance), and as long as the rental contract terms are not violated, the renter would not be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement to the top of the box roof. I wonder what the drivers of these vehicles must be thinking as they approach this large blinking sign that says "overhight...must turn". Something along the lines of "it's probably referring to the other large vehicle in this single lane of traffic approaching this bridge with the neon-yellow iron bar across the bottom...I'm probably fine!"

To raise the bridge any more would require re-grading the rail tracks for several miles.
The camera owner sells the scraps to fans on his website. 11 foot 8
I can almost guarantee you that Penske and Ryder absolutely know about this bridge.
I remember reading somewhere that the local rental places around that bridge warn drivers about it prior to renting. They also let them know that if they hit it. Their rental protection on the truck does not cover the roof damage from hitting the bridge.
Roof damage from hitting any bridge would never be covered. Every driver should know their vehicle height and how to read road signs.
A lot of these trucks are long term leases, though, so most of the time it’s employees driving for a company. I’m guessing Penske/Ryder tell the owners of the business about the low bridges and then the bosses don’t mention it to any of their employees lol

And going too fast to start with, probably.
It’s actually super cool. That light will turn red when an over height vehicle is approaching. It’s supposed to be an extra warning that they can’t fit. That’s why all of them are either from a stop as the light changes back, or someone trying to run a red light that may have seemed super short.
