How Is The Ramblas After Some Needed Updates?
I did some upgrades to the Aventon Ramblas and now it's time to see how much better it rides and if I actually enjoy this bike this time!

I Changed A Few Key Parts On My Aventon Ramblas
zhlédnutí 690Před 21 dnem
The first full review I did on this bike I rode the bike completely stock. For singletrack some of the parts were not very good at doing their job so I swapped out a few key parts to hopefully make this bike more off-road worthy.

Bentonville Bike Festival 2024
zhlédnutí 1,7KPřed měsícem
This was a fun event. There is a lot more going on than what I show here. There are bike demos people can try out on real MTB trails, skills clinics, group rides, races, events at the different businesses downtown, and so on. Plus a lot of places to go ride both mountain biking and paved. I will definitely be back again.

In Depth Review Of The Ramblas On Singletrack

I took the 55-pound Aventon Ramblas eBike on legitimate singletrack to see how it rides. There are definitely quite a few pros and cons with the stock bike. There are lots of details in this longer video review!
Aventon Ramblas First Ride

I decided to ride my new Ramblas to work for its first ride. This bike can be a commuter and a mountain bike, which is pretty cool. I have plans to do a bunch of upgrades to this bike once I do a mountain bike ride in stock form, so stay tuned for more videos about this Ramblas to come!

I figured this was a good time to release this video since tomorrow (Saturday, May 18th) is the Season Opener. This trail is located in Minnetonka, a western suburb of Minneapolis, MN. It's a pretty new XC singletrack trail and a lot of fun.

Convert that single speed to gears and that bike will be fire
that air bag is gonna be sick
Bought a 2023 A30 and like you I've been switching the chip around; it's cool how it makes a subtle but noticeable difference. This is my first full-suspension mtb and it's definitely fun to ride and tinker with. I've got it in position seven now, which to me kind of made the suspension feel more firm and it seems to climb better.
Yo Shady, why is that POC helmet visor so damn big you look like the guy playing Darth Vader in Space Balls! You gotta get a fully sus and bang down some real enduro tracks. That e-ht needs a set of carbon hoops and bar to tone down the stiffness. The Kryptol tire isnt an xc tire and is heavy af, so if you're trying to drop weight on that e-ht and make it ride faster you need something like the forekaster exo+ casing. Those are xc trails so you should wear spandex to not look out of place. I'd worry about trashing that bike so fast if I pushed it through real tracks.
No carbon bars for me...ever. I took the carbon bars off the Spectra right away. If I wanted compliant bars I would get titanium, but I wouldn't put that kind of money into this bike. I also wanted to compare the updates I did on the same trail I originally tested it on. I seriously doubt I would take this bike on super gnarly trails. I basically didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a bike like this...🤷♂️
Is yours a medium? The small comes with 27.5 wheels. If you’re 5’7” the small would definitely suit you better
It's a medium. The reach is too short on the small and I didn't want 27.5 wheels on this bike.
I had mine out this weekend. I just can't believe the climbing power, I don't like the rattles and clunky SRAM shifts, but it's so fun I overlook it.
Same here. It’s hard to find a reason to leave eco mode. It’s insane
I heard the rattling on this one, is it the internal cables? Would drive me nuts.
No, it's a known issue. I need to contact Aventon about it. It's something in the motor and they say it's not supposed to do that.
Sweet! Maybe if I off-loaded a few bicycles then I could justify adding an ebike to my stable
Maybe. I am not sure it's worth it to get rid of regular bikes for an eBike in my opinion.
@@ShadLife 👌 After a lifetime of running I had to give that up 10 yrs ago and cannot spend much time on my feet, cannot even walk the minimum recommended. Took up cycling which does not affect my feet, gives me my cardio and also makes my hips feel better too. I am nearly 70 now and figure I may require an ebike eventually.
Any update on using these for MTB? A comparison to Fivetens would be really interesting. Stiffness and durability, especially. Fit and fashion are going to be subjective anyway.
Yep, I am planning an update on them soon.
I nearly purchased an Aventon Ramblas last week, but after a test ride, I decided against it. Since no shops in my town carry this brand, I had to drive 150 km to Victoria, BC, to find a bike shop that offered test rides on the Ramblas. Kudos to Aventon for the 100 Nm torque engine, which is excellent for larger riders like myself (220 lbs) when climbing hills. The torque is impressive, but unfortunately, Aventon cut corners on other aspects of the bike. In my opinion, the overall quality and enjoyment of the ride on dirt single tracks are poor. It might be okay for pavement, and that's where the Ramblas shines, as you pointed out. I must mention that the front forks combined with the hardtail design make this one of the roughest e-bikes I've ever ridden. I felt every bump on the single track trail in my wrists and back during the test ride. Additionally, the 100 Nm torque engine sounds like an over-revved electric drill and is much louder compared to other e-bike engines like Bosch or Yamaha. Ultimately, the Ramblas wasn’t the right fit for me, and I ended up finding a better match with a GasGas Enduro on sale. I encourage everyone to test ride the e-bike you're considering before purchasing! E-bikes are a big investment, so finding the right fit and ride is worth the time and effort. Happy trails, everyone!
I'm a new rider with a size 9.5US shoes, would you recommend the small or larger pedal for the waveform?

This was a very educational video. Appreciate the content and the stoke!
Yoyo my boy u gotta get some fitness so u aint huffin for air so fast! The manual and all the bike throwing is easier if that weight is down too.. big ups from an ol og to another!!
Dude, my fitness is actually excellent right now. I have also lost a bunch of weight, although filming with wide-angle mode doesn't show it and makes me look bigger than I actually am. I have more fitness and weight to lose, but honestly, that's for me to figure out and work on and not for others to comment about. I went the entire pump track without getting much out of breath which is very different than riding this same spot last February. For a 57-year-old I am in better shape than most men in their 30s..😉
@@ShadLifemy bedtime fitness aint nuttin compared to my 33 yr old bf's thats 100%! He also get 2x harder than mine. But on the enduro stuff I drop his sorry ass prettt quick!
nice bike! I'm also building a DJ with rigid fork. I think they look rad!
Damn rain! Shad or whoever else can chime in... Monday 6/24/24 I'm flying to MN with my bike, my best days to ride are Tuesday/ Wednesday and frankly, if I can't ride Localized or Monarch Paradise it's a waste to bring my bike, I'm only in town a few days. What are the odds of getting to ride either of those spots Tuesday/Wednesday this week? I need answer quick so I can save the hassle of bringing my bike, if it's a loss. Thanks MTB fam!
I don't know enough about Localized to know when they are open and how much the rain affects the trails there. Monarch on the other hand, it will be a couple of days of dry weather, which it looks like we might get for the next few days. I do however don't know what the condition of Monarch will be because with the amount of rain we have had the trail crews need time to get out and get the trails dialed back in. That being said, I think you would be wise to bring your bike just in case. I know it's an extra hassle but I would rather have a bike and not be able to ride it than not have a bike to ride if the conditions are good. Definitely download the Trailbot app to your phone so you can get the latest updates on the trails.
Bring my bike or no?
@@ShadLife thanks man, I’m on the Trailbot app. Updates seem a little slow. I have a beautiful new Canyon Spectral, i’m not sure I wanna have it get dinged up. Gametime decision! Thanks for the input.
Here in Fargo/Moorhead, we've been struggling to keep trails open. Pretty much everything here is right along the river, which has been in and out of flood stages a couple times in the past month, and the soil itself basically turns to grease when it's a bit muddy anyway. On a normal year, it's about a 48 hour wait after significant rain for trails to dry out. This year it's been tough to even get that much of a window.
Yep, same here. Hopefully things will change here soon as we get into July and August.
Why cant you film some of your road rides.? I think road rides are just as cool especially for those who do not live in minnesota.
I haven’t owned a mt bike since the late ‘90s I had a Voodoo Hoodoo. I’m looking to get back into riding. I’m just starting to do some research and am looking at the Co-Op bikes. What are the pros and cons on going with 29”s vs 27.5”?
You likely won't find any 27.5 co-op bikes. At least not recent models. Most bikes are now 29 inch.
@@ShadLife I was at REI the other day and their entry level hard tail medium frames were 27.5s.
@@DiscosVideos Ah, okay. I was thinking full suspension bikes since that is what I reviewed here. It depends on your experience level. Most people will likely never feel much of a difference between a 27.5 or 29 inch wheel. The 27.5 basically gives the bike a bit more quicker handling and for those of us who like to jump and such, it's easier to toss around and control in the air. A 29 inch wheel will provide more stability though. They will roll over things slightly easier, but it's not a huge difference.
Wind Rain. Trees falling weeds growing. Trail work. Just ready to ride. Hopefully nice weather soon.
Tell me about it. Travelled to Eau Claire Wisconsin and the trails are too wet to ride.
Glad to hear you’re doing well. My takeaway from this video is that you’re booking a flight to Sedona/Phoenix to escape the rain and soak in some sun!
Hmmm? 🤔
Good thing we have some paved trails for gravel/road riding. Dirt trails are mud in Mn.
Thanks for your help !
strange design oO
Seems to make perfect sense because with a singlespeed you don't and the distance from the axle to the spindle to change. Reusing the crankset spindle as a pivot point is pretty neat.
6:27 upgraded to rival ? Is that the brand or model thanks 👍
SRAM is the brand, Rival is the component group level.
Thanks Shad for the reveiw. I have been looking at the Spectral 125 CF after I bought their fat bike ,The Dude. That fatty at that price and then riding it I was super impressed . Seems like good value overall on their bike lines. Canyon I found out as been around for awhile in Europe so not fly by nighters.
Yep, Canyon is a legitimate brand. They are direct-to-consumer and thus some people don't think they are legitimate.
Interesting comment about sidewall stiffness.
I like lighter tires. But these particular ones side flex more than I like. Victoria Mazza tires with trail casing are about the same weight and don't flex as much...🤷♂️
Big question from is…. Do you prefer it over the Rustler?
That's a tough one. They feel a little different. The Rustler was a bit more agile due to its 66ish degree head angle and 27.5 wheels as well as 15mm less reach. For jumping I have definitely sat on the rear wheel on my Spectral with the 29 inch wheels. So I have to be aware of that when tucking and nosediving. For the slower speed tighter stuff the Rustler was definitely better. But as the speed increases, especially on the downhills, the Spectral becomes much more stable and easier to push harder. Since I have my Esker Hayduke Titanium hardtail, I don't mind not having the Rustler anymore because if I want a quick handling lightweight bike I just grab that...🙂
My mom passed away this year in January sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear that. May she rest in ✌️
Just ordered the 125 cf 8 😬
Enjoy! It's a fun bike!
Big help!
I've got the AL6 and I really like it too. It's my first full sus. I had nice bikes before but that was in the early 2000's. It's crazy how good bikes are now! Thanks for the cool ride review.
The spec on that bike is insane for the price. How are you liking those dt Swiss wheels?
I upgraded to the 54t ratchet and they have been excellent so far. Surprisingly lightweight for a stock wheelset.
Good call to not trust the carbon bars, I personally wouldn’t trrust anything Canyon in Carbon Fiber. Their OCLV process sucks as is their well documented rear triangle failures. Stick with name brands and LBS support.
Canyon is a name brand...🤣 It's been one for quite some time. Yes, they had a rear triangle issue and have, like any company that has issues with their frames they have fixed it. All the major brands have had certain issues from time to time and most of them resolve those issues.
Man me and my buddy have been doing dh on bmx for a few years and i cant lie the swamp master is in my shopping cart
Throw the aero headset cap and those aero stem spacers in the bin and get the CC zs49 headset cap so it doesnt creak and looks waay cooler.
Yeah, I don't have the spacers, just that top cap/cup thing. No issues with creaking but I do plan to get that cup just so it looks better. The weird proprietary headset stem thing Canyon does needs to go.
@@ShadLife the only achilles heel Ive found with the Spectral 125 is steep climbs. That frt wheel is out there so far it makes you park your chest on top of the bars. My 67.5 hta bike doesnt have that on the steeps.
What trail system are you riding?
Theodore Wirth
How much was it ? Like almost 4 K?
I luckily got mine for $2899 when they were on sale. The retail price is $4099.
The Canyon prices on the website are changing all the time. I bought the same bike as Shad. Bike was $3099 without tax and shipping. I added an Ethirteen bash guard + ISG05 plate adapter, a Ridewrap frame wrap kit and a front fork mudgaurd. I am guessing I have like $3600 into the bike all costs included.
I am glad you still like the bike. I bought the same bike - though medium frame in red - after doing internet research on it … which consisted of watching video reviews on CZcams! lol. It is understandably difficult to get a good sense of a bike when you can’t really ride it in-person or see it in a bike shop, but only have access to reviews on the internet. But the consumer direct-buy approach by Canyon really does allow for incredible cost savings. It is a trade-off, I guess.
@@ShadLife i paid just $4200 for the Cf9 a cpl months ago.
So just how robust is that artificial joint if you come off and land heavy on your knee?
It's been 4.5 years and I have done that a bunch of times. Still solid and more stable than it was before the surgery.
Rare swamp master sighting in it element’s 😀
I still ride dirtbikes with my dad he's 70, keeps it up

Wow

This was a great review, very helpful, and so on and so forth
😂
I was just at Murphy with my Spectral 125 CF8. And I also had to walk the uphill rock gardens. 7:24 It is lime the uphill rcok garden on the north loop at Wirth. I get that one like 50% of the time.
Well compared to road levers those r wayyyy better. I never seen or used those exact ones but I have struggled in my early days of biking with levers, then I bought Pedro's levers and never looked back and they look almost exactly the same as yours. The shape needs to have that deep scoop or they suck. It's cuz u already have practically the best levers that's y u have no problems
I got the same issue on the aluminum. going to take it apart in the winter to confirm but I have a feeling it might be the same thing. Bike rides well just creaky AF.
Enjoyed watching your race, I was rooting for you all the way! Pretty exciting.
