#WalkingThroughThePain® presents Washington Adventures Spring 2024 Barter Faire & Spokane
This episode picks up on May 20, 2024, with me relaxing on Boulder Beach along the Spokane River in Spokane, Washington at Mile 7,828.
After leaving Portland, I spent a few weeks in Eugene until last weekend. From May 17 to 19, I attended the enchanting Okanogan Family Barter Faire in Tonasket, Washington.
This biannual event began over 50 years ago, with people from remote areas just east of the Cascade Mountain Range in Northern Washington, gathering at harvest time to barter and trade items they found, hunted, gathered, grew, and made to help them through the harsh winter-and again in the spring.
Though I’ve attended the fall faire several times, this was my first time experiencing the spring event.
From reconnecting with old friends to making new ones, the fire dancers, the incredible live music (Bunny Rose, DJ Bähm, Blu Jay & Friends, Crystal Marie, Benjamin Oscar, Lyndsay & others), the great trades and barters, and the welcoming spirit from property owners, organizers, volunteers, vendors, and attendees-all greeted with "Welcome Home" and "Happy Faire." This event is something I urge everyone to experience at least once in their lives.
While popular festivals charge hundreds of dollars for a weekend, the barter fair is truly affordable at $80 for three days. It showcases what society could be like-a magical experience surrounded by good humans, those #HumansWithWings. They fed me, recharged me with coffees, gifted me pain relief, and much more. The love and good vibes shared among everyone is a soul recharge for many of us who return year after year.
Much gratitude to everyone who makes this event special each time.
Now, I’m in Spokane preparing for my trip to Ohio and West Virginia to attend some amusement parks and walk 150+ miles on a couple of trails.
I end this episode with the usual invitation to "come walk a mile with me and experience the magic."

Thanks so much for watching. I’m using iPhone 13 Pro Max and iMovie. I used GarageBand to create most of the background music (the early videos were done on android phones, YouCut editing app, and “free” background music). I’ve been pleasantly surprised what one person can create.

Yeah. While I’m happy with it…Samsung might be a better brand as far as photograph quality. And as far as night videos. But it’s the iMovie app that upped the production quality by ALOT over Android editing apps for phones. With Android, my episodes LOOK rookie-ish. Once I got the iMovie, I felt like my series could Almost be on some network.

Judging by the many name and date carvings on the inside….a lot. Tho not as many as any of the trees on the trail systems all around. I saw a date from the 1970s.
