The newer Volvo and Mercruiser bearings are sealed and require no grease maintenance but the OEM replacements don't have the external grease hole or the circumference grove that was there to allow the bearing to locate in any position as long as the retainer split was oriented to the grease hole in the gimbal housing. The newer gimbal housings don't have a grease fitting and the gimbal bearing has no seal but has the metal shield. This aftermarket bearing looks like a cross between the early and late bearings. I use the newer grease less bearings in everything. Mercuiser OEM replacement kit includes a tamper proof torx plug to replace the grease zerk. I know aftermarket is a bunch cheaper and everyone thinks it's all the same but I see problems with many aftermarket parts and try my best to stay away from them. As a DIY you can gamble the time but when I install parts I am being paid and when parts fail It cost me more than I made on the job to replace the defective part. No! the manufacture ONLY covers their failed part at cost and no labor or ancillary parts but I have to cover them. But, as an OEM dealer the manufacture will cover the ancillary parts at cost and some of the labor.

The earlier 250/400 had no screw out plug to get to the balance chain nut. Which you only had to slacken, then tighten back up. I had three of these Bikes, the first was known here in the UK as "Dream" but in the US was known as "Hawk" The later versions, had a screw out circular cover, around the size of a "Dollar Coin" and all you needed to do was back it off every 1000 miles, then re-tighten it. Job Done. The quadrant takes up any slack in the chain, pretty much like the cam chain which uses a blade that pushes against the cam chain. Only with both engines, the bike needs to be not running, and cold before these jobs can be done. If the bike is high mileage, chances are, both chains will be shot.

So have a problem, the caked in electronics for the trim shorted out and keeps blowing my main fuse. I know this cause I was able to undo all work I did on the trim and everything works fine. I disconnected the wires from the caked in and kept my wires connected thinking that would do it but not getting anything. Wondering if the switches got jacked up. Regardless, keeping the wires connected to the existing caked in trim electronics is not a good idea. Would have started a fire had my fuse not blown.

Worked great first handful of times out and then the VTS stopped working again. Took off the housing and there was some water in there. SE Creator thx for your reply! So I determined the motor is fine. It works when I run positive and negative from the battery to the motor. My fuse was not blown however I still think and am hoping the problem is the relay. Not sure how to test if it’s the thumb switch on the handlebar. My money is on the relay since it’s a common issue. So I am going to attempt your fix. I’m a geeenhorn when it comes to 12v electronics. Would appreciate any help you might offer if I run into issues. I did have a question now. So does your relay system stop the motor from running after the trim hits the full top or bottom or does it just keep running as long as you hold the buttons? Any idea what happens if you hold to long? Would you mind to connect on Facebook ? Might be easier to communicate that way if I run into issues. Here’s my profile facebook.com/jonrenner7 Thx again!!

Wish I could post a picture, once its on a diagram, makes a lot more sense. its actually the same part as a 240sx power window motor, and the circuit is the same as well. switches route ground to control the relay, power should be on 85,87a on both relays, ground to 87, switches go to 86, 30 goes to each side of the motor. if you look up a power widow diagram, and then imagine its on two seperate switches instead of a double throw you can use that a reference. we should make this a plug and play kit. I'm working on a 94 xp rn, so no gagues show the trim status, so even easier.
