Explosions&Fire
Registrace 24. 09. 2017
Home chemistry, where we try and investigate the cutting edge of modern explosives science, talk about some of the classics of the energetics field and just generally shitpost.
Explosions&Fire(1) ran from 2011-2017, with over 90 videos on various chemistry and energetics, before we got 3 community guideline strikes in 2 hours, for putting children in danger (ourselves from 2011) and spam (seriously).
But we are back! For as long as we can!
The base for this channel is now trying to be on Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/ExplosionsAndFire/
That way, if we have to move elsewhere, we don't lose the community. So check that place out and subscribe there too, you friend.
There's also a rad discord for this channel now! The biggest** (unverified) chemistry discord, it's a great community!! discord.gg/VR6Fz9g
Extractions&Ire is the 'second channel' of this me, Tom. Hello. You can subscribe there for more detailed synths of things that wont necessarily blow up at the end of it!

It's neat to see how things are in different places. I service and sell fire extinguishers. Those 30Lb amerex D class extinguishers are definitely expensive. There is also a copper powered version model C571. Where I live A is paper, wood, cloth etc.. B is flammable liquids(gases fall into this catahory as well, like we select B rated for propane powered industrial trucks for example) , C is energized electrical equipment, D is combustabke metal, K is commercial kitchen equipment fires involving oils and fats. And that's it, 5 classes.

Hi explosions and fire! 👋 Do you pay an editor to edit your videos or do you do them yourself? :0 ATM my biggest blocker is the editing of videos that’s why I don’t record any 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the science
Slowly building up my chemistry knowledge to the point where I have a semblance of a clue what the fuck is going on.
I remember in highschool I had played with tcca and ammonium nitrate, wrapping the two practically without mixing them, and it would start melting. The stink of chlorine oxides is extraordinary and the foil wad would get hot and start spittling everywhere around it, with these little pops and snaps. I was young and didn't know about this stuff. Had I known I would've made a larger one and gotten myself in trouble.
Yellow chemistry bad
Baseball? you sure thats not cricket?
breaking bad,but its H2O2
Fuck me i love the 60s. (I keep com9ng back to his videos and i cant stop)
The bang is caused by bismuth-chelated chlorine heptoxide, formed by the loss of water under heat.
Acetylene torches and stuff. I love acetylene. It was my first proper welding experience and was easy to work with on thin sheet metal. But it has some safety concerns. How you store the bottles. What valve you close first when you're done (oxy) so that oxygen doesn't push back into the acetylene hose, stuff like that. OK, so you've read up on how to safely store and use acetylene. Explaining in text how to adjust the flame properly is tedious. Just watch some videos. Suffice to say, you were using the cutting handle, the flame didn't have enough oxygen, and then you triggered the cutter, adding a bunch of oxygen (used for burning (oxydizing) steel, for instance). I'm not saying adjusting a cutter is an art, but it's easier to show than to tell. Anyway, you were dumping a ton of oxygen at the titanium sheet. Yes, the titanium will burn as long as there's enough oxygen (in the flame), but it won't be sustained when you remove the cutter flame. If there IS a way to get titanium to burn sustainably in atmospheric levels of oxygen, this experiment wit the cutter won't show it. You'll need to use a welding nozzle with a balanced flame. Probably the larger, the better. Or maybe you could try something hotter? Like an electric arc?
Loved the 'Getting over it' reference. And also the Chemistry. I am so thankful that there is a human that went down this path so the rest of us could enjoy the Science. Thank you Ex&F!

That light is making my ocd alarms go off like mad 😂😂😂
Ive been cleaning things, had some store bought hydrogen peroxide in a cup, forgot about it and I guess it evaporated and concentrated after a few days, and when I got a drop on my it turned my skin white. I figured it was a chemical burn, but its interesting to see

You are the only CZcamsr for which I considered listening in 0.75 speed Fascinating content!
SpaceX managed to set titanium on fire, which caused their capsule to explode in 2019. That was with nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidiser.
Well, if there is profit made off the sale then by definition its overpriced. Something that is required for safe functioning of any part of society is hard, in my mind, to justify any profit margins at all being added.
That;s quite useful for flash pots, as you needn't order both Mg flake and oxidizer, which gets you on lists in the USA. May try this. Mg flake + PTFE.
My face while watching you add even more oxygen was the same as my face reading about A.G. Streng and his research group making FOOF.

Plutonium tiles and Beryllium bricks are crazy
I'm reminded of that one line from the mayor in the short lived "Clerks" animated series; 'NOTHING can kill the Grimmace.'
That is super cool! A real artifact of modern science!
id love to go to a restaurant for something like this just taste testing lots of mildly inedible and mildly toxic things id do it i watched this video years ago, but was brought back after seeing a sawdust taste test video > Can I taste between different species of sawdust baked into loaves of bread? > v=MTC_ETWa3JA

This is science I can get behind. (As in "Get behind me, this mother might explode!")
I'm making an extreme sport to put out metal fires training is small scale just the element is to build the arena where the match is you usevthe arena to put out the flame and the only way to win isbto put it out then do a 100m run
Best strategy is to use the fire against it input equals output by using party balloons the negative charged and temperature pushes any airflow back down in which makes the balloons go higher cause of the lift glass frisbees or mirrors can reflect light therefore heat making it disperse easier plus heres the controversial part a magnet to move the heat fastervamd further amd colder metal can move in like a dog pile reducingbrange etc addimg a magnet is the last thing ifbits fonsidered an option after everything ekse itsbthe cherry on top
What kind of fire fighter are you if you cant put out a metal fire i now know i can use water cannons to stop bullets just metal fires putting bricks around the burning metal makes it smoke which is easier to cool with standard issue water i hate things anything which can take human life the fire of my intelligence will drown out the sun if need be its like ice to wooden fire
MnO2 catalyzes 2H2O2 -> 2H2O+O2
