Stackable fuzz? Janis LV Double Purvs
The Janis L.V. Double PURVS is probably one of my favorite fuzz pedals ever. To my ears, it has some of that distinctive Fuzz Face sound to it, but it is so much more than just a FF circuit. This is a stackable fuzz, meaning that you have two of the same circuit in one enclose, that can be stacked together. You would assume that this got all muddled and messy, but you'd be wrong. This pedal works like a charm.
I'm using my trusty Vox AC15c1, loaded with a WGS Black&Blue speaker, going through the Normal channel, as always.
I'm a Stringjoy artist, and play their set of Broadways on all my Electric guitars.
I play the 10/13.5/17/28/38/50 on all my Gibson and Epiphone. I play the 9.5/13/16/26/36/48 on my Strat and Telecaster.

JHS Smiley Fuzz Face: 10 tips for Vox AC15

The AC15c1 and a great Fuzz Face is a fantastic combination. However, a lot of people run into certain situations where they get less than optimal results from this pairing. In this video, I'm giving you my Top 10 Tips for using a Fuzz Face style pedal with a Vox amplifier. In this case, I am using the JHS Legends Of Fuzz Smiley. Uni-Vibe before or after pedals?: JHS Unicorn V2
zhlĂ©dnutĂ 449PĆed 14 dny
I've always wanted to try a Uni-Vibe. Back in the 90's and early 2000's they were expensive and kind of rare. So, I ended up forgetting about the idea of getting a Uni-Vibe and settled with Phasers and Chorus pedals instead. Lately, I've been on a Uni-Vibe kick, so I reached out to the kind folks at JHS pedals, and asked if they were interested in sending one my way. They obliged and sent their...

I know, this pedal has been out for a good while. Still, I wanted to give it a spin in order to determine which Rat model (if any) I liked to play. Instead of giving up all together on this type of circuit, I reached out to the folks at JHS and asked if they could send their Packrat my way. They kindly ...

The good old orange boss DS1 distortion works well on the normal channel for high gain.
If you get tired of Fresh Fuzz, try my pedal: Stank Fuz
What are the EQ settings since I know the vox ac15c1 has no middle control
So versatile yet with character. Cool!
@@thewetterbass yeah, it has a ton of attitude!
Very very nice sounds and playing. Sounds very like the Union Fuzz from JDM Pedals. đđ»đđ»đđŒđđŒ
@esmoroglu I'm not familiar with this one. I'll have to look it up.
And it costs a arm and a leg!!! I will find a cheaper option for a fuzz pedal.
Excellent point! Wait for the schematic and breadboard it. Do your own take on it. Call it âThe Pervertâ and watch it print money on Reverb. đ«Ą
@@daveycrockett9447 Not sure that it's considered extremely expensive, especially when it's two pedals in one.
Good job. So this is Boss a clone ? I like it, but its not intense enough. Do you know if anyone make a MXR chorus clone ?
Get a head and just buy cabs. it will safe you any GAS. Learn the hard way
Ah man. Iâm gassing for the pedal!!
I wish they still offered the cherry red today. The nut on this one is strange. I've never owned a Gibson and a Junior will be my first I'd say.
your one hot cat!
Try Pyramid Round Core. Old school.
awesome video, thanks a lot !
My main issue with the Tube 15 is the utter lack of a headphone out. I'm afraid to use the speaker out, so I'm leaving my headphones plugged into my old solid state Hiwatt for some night-time playing; otherwise I'm absolutely enthusiast about this little beast. :)
Always put EQ before a compressor, just do it.
I dunno about the Berkeley Fuzz nailing Boston sound though not by itself at least
and all analog
I just watched a 2 year old video here titled "Rockman Sound In A Pedal - GOAT Analog Distortion Generator Demo". I'd post the link, but CZcams seems to flag any comment with a URL in it as spam, even if it's one of their own links. It's a pedal that's pretty much a clone of the Rockman Distortion Generator half-rack unit. You'll notice that when he turns the notch filter on and off (the switch labeled Phase), that's the key to the Rockman sound, and possibly the legacy Boston sound on the first two albums. "Notch filter", aka: parametric EQ. I'm not sure who made those as a pedal back in the 70s, perhaps MXR? But, it would seem to me that you could expand your test with that Berkley pedal and your amp, by inserting a parametric EQ after the Berkley pedal. From that point, it's a matter of finding the center frequency, width, and dB cut. I'll just bet you that you can achieve that Rockman sound without any digital equipment. Of course, to get the full meal deal, you'd also need a compressor & gate pedal at the beginning of the chain like the Rockmans always have.
I've purchased this pedal and I'm know ordering the wingman knob for the octave control....this thing gets weird and ambient...
Barry Goudreau had the same sound on his solo album. I'm still waiting to see if he will reply to my email asking what he used since he couldn't possibly have been using any Rockman gear at that time.
Like 218 â .
Awesome i have one to changed to brass nut and changed all wiring so its like a fender and gibson in one rock on
I think the hyper fuzz works better in the mix. The fuzz face I like also. Have them both.
Great insights Jonathan. Thanks. 1 quick question. What about compressors before the Fuzz pedal? Are they needed? Can they help?
A compressor might increase the noise floor. Plus, a fuzz is typically already pretty compressed, so the results may vary. It's still worth experimenting with. You never know.
I kept flipping between which speaker I preferred! Outstanding quality of your video buddy, props to you. I would have been VERY interested to have heard some comparisons with a humbucker equipped guitar. I find my stock Tube 15 aounds fantastic with single coils, but is muddy/flubby with buckers. Have you any thoughts on that?
When I did my main review of this amp, I was of the opinion that the amp wasn't so good with humbuckers.
Could you review the JOYO Tidal Wave please?

@@TheToneLounge thx
Could you do a review of the JOYO Tidal Wave?
I have one coming up soon.
I usually stick the either the neck or bridge pickup, but holy damn did the second position sound nice here!

Cool video and jamming rock onđžđžđžđ
I've been doing this but with a Mosky Golden Horse which is the same circuit as Tumnus.
Very nice guitar
Iâm late to this party but itâs a dead-on match and just a great OD. When I play live, I pair a this pedal on my HX Effects with a Strymon Iridium on âroundâ and it just rules. Roll back the guitar volume for clean and full tilt to wake people up. Solid comparison!
Hi, nice demo, thanks. Looks like your looper is at the end of your effects chain, are you playing direct into the input? I always found an issue with my looper was if you set up and played a clean loop and then put some dirt or other pedal on for a solo or change of sound, the looped track changed tone totally too so I placed my looper (Ditto mini) in the effects loop. I've just bought a NUX as my Ditto has stopped working, about 5 years old but these drum tracks sound great, headphones too and great looking looper. Thanks again for the great review
That "Rebel Rebel" tone is spot on.
I remember I bought mine new in 1997 for like $110 (I think?) and it was like $10 cheaper than the brand new FZ-3. I couldnât figure out why anyone would want to pay more money for a pedal with fewer features, so I of course went with the FZ-2. I had no idea until a few years ago that these are collectors items.
Yeah, these shot up in price in the last few years.
Great vid! What guitar are you playing?
Details at 0:27
@@TheToneLounge thatâs what I get for trying to multitask. The Tele sounds awesome!
I bought a AC15C1 head recently for $500 on reverb, it's for home use but has the reactive attenuator which allows you to dial 15watts down to 7 or a .02watts. I also have a cabinet with a relatively low sensitivity speaker - a greenback, another with a Avatar A25 (Celestion blue type), and a third with a Vintage 30 - which supposedly sound great with Vox. I also have the AC10C1, and a wonderful clone: JMI AC10 head with EF86 channel, but the AC10C1 got me hooked on the Vox sound, top boost it is. I have some great sounding old amps, but usually play through my Vox heads.
song name? 1:14
Coheed and Cambria- Welcome Home
Anyone know the size of the saddle adjustment screws?
I love the last part, sounds like my cat in the Morning
Never heard that Reezafratzitz. What a freaking name. Reminds me of a great Nirvana sound. It had so much more body than the others.
I think it's a reference to Calvin &Hobbes.
How do you figure you can even compare these two when the HX Stomp is modeling the V2 and V4 which are clearly much different sounding than the V1.4 Just doesn't really make sense at all.
Pretty simple actually: I figure that both can be dialed-in close enough to sound similar.
A little late to the party here...JUST put my AC15 into service again with my new bar band project - lots of early 80s tunes. Hooked up my mxr 134 stereo chorus to my AC15(dry) and my Fender Pro jr IV(wet) Sounded awesome, but the AC15 is the one amp I use live, so I ran the stereo chorus into the Normal channel (wet) and ran the Top Boost (dry) Sounds like a stereo rig, the bucket-brigade chips give much welcome warmth to the AC15, and it sounds loud, clear and awesome AC15 players should try my stereo chorus hack!âïž
That's interesting! Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely have to try this. Cheers
