    I just started using Xgen and Hair/Fur in Unreal..This was extremely helpful...but when it comes to say....a Bengal Cat...I create fur for it in Maya..import the hair as groom in Unreal...but the doesn't match the body....due to its patterns on fur...so how do I create fur material in Unreal?

    Great work!!! What puzzles me is her facial expression. The initial mesh had a blank face. There was an explanation about modeling of those artificial arms and suddenly BOOM - this facial expression appeared out of nowhere. How exactly the expression has been made?

    Correct title: Everything you need to know about topology for game development. This information is useless for quick sketches, models that will never be animated or even rendered. Different context different requirements.

I have a question, when I use HD, there is a line around the selected area that I can't remove, and when I work in the rest of the area, the line is visible, to remove it what should I do?       Thanks for the message. HD can only display to its limit so the edge is outside of the area. You have to go in and out of that mode and try not to sculpt over the border. It can be a pain for sure and isn’t worth it most of the time. Only for models needing the most details as possible

    hi...on the scale tip.... i brought in a scale reference of a character(A) from blender to match scale with the one(B) i am dong in zbrush... after i increased the scale of B ( 35 to 177 units) to match A inside zbrush... now the lowest dynamesh resolution of 8 is giving me 2 million points and i am still in the ideation stage and would like the resolution to be below 500,000..... how can i drop the dynamesh res further...thanks

    So... Here is my thing. I am attracted to characters a lot, i like anatomy and fashion and so on but.. i love also environments, i like fotography, so i also enjoy making 3d game ready scenes and assets. Now... I would hate if someone thought that i dont know what to do, no, i just like those things! I like building a Castle as much as sculpting a face... So.. what? Should i just dich my environment stuff (even if i am still making them for my own amusement) for the sake of cohesion? Serms also a way of loosing some potential Jobs but... What do you think?

      Doing art for fun and doing it for a job is different. Do whatever you want for fun but there isn’t a job where the same artist makes faces and castles. Maybe being a generalist would be more interesting to you but they don’t make characters

      @@artofjhill Sure, I am just baffled that one cant have in the same place work related stuff as well as other cool art, which who knows how relevant it could be. I just cant be on the side that the stuff you do for fun has to be hidden. Some of the fundamentals of baking, texturing, etc are even the same. I am just confused. I mean, I am no fool, I know what a character artist position entails, but I would be lying if I said that is all I do and that is all I am interested in. It does not mean I want to work on that other stuff though. So... You would have then two portfolios or something like that? Onle only for work and then another to show it all?

    This may not get seen for a while, but how do I figure out specifically what kind of game art I want to do? For instance, making the assets used for level design vs. character design type things? I just know I want to do art and that I want it to involve films and video games, and I can’t for the life of me narrow it down beyond that. If anyone has advice I’d really appreciate it

      Do all kinds of stuff and see if you have a favorite. Generalists get to do a wide variety of things but usually not characters

    When importing, why not allow it to create new materials and then tweak them if necessary? It seems much easier.

      @@artofjhill The reason why I asked is because I noticed a trend that way. When I import, I generally have it make the new material and use it as a launching point. Usually I only have a problem with the normals. I end up keeping most of it.

    Have you ever had to deal with development crunch and constant requests for change? I'm just thinking about what happened to Mick Gordon and his music for Doom Eternal. They kept rejecting music and pushing his deadlines. I'm curious how much that happens with other art departments.

      All the time. Actual crunch is kind of a culture and is different at each studio. I don’t crunch much at all but consistent changes and deadlines

      It’s the most common DCC for games and movies. It’s still mostly preferred by animators and studios have long time investments in in-house tools and expertise they’ve built for Maya. In other words if you had to learn just one DCC to work as a character artist for games, it would still by Maya imo. But Blender had a bright future and may become the standard eventually
