Predicting the Winner of Eurovision 2024 Based on Real-Life Events Only
We’re all well aware that factors outside of music impact the Eurovision Song Contest. The most common factor is, of course, politics! Even though Eurovision prides itself on not being political, that simply doesn’t exist. Any way you look at it, any sort of a statement, show, action, piece of art or whatever done by people carries some political message. This political message, of course, varies in intensity. I would even argue that being apolitical is a form of a political stance. I’ve noticed that the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 helped Eurovision guide it towards this more obviously political show that it is now. Kind of like a soft-reboot happened. For every winner since that year, you can easily link major real life political or cultural events that would explain the wins.
I am going to predict the winner simply by looking at what’s happening outside the competition. I’ll give you three options just to cover my ass! I have only heard 3 songs that are going to compete this year - Serbia’s song, Croatia’s song and Spain’s song. I have also not seen the rehearsals, except my own country’s. However, Serbia is not one of my three picks for the win.

“Novo, bolje” is Konstrakta’s entry for Serbia’s national contest for Eurovision. Unsurprisingly, Konstrakta is amongst the favourites to win. My main takeaway from the results of the contest this year was that yes, I am happy Switzerland won, I thought it was a really well put together song with good vocals and interesting staging, but I would have been happier had Croatia won. I think it's amazing that a non-binary artist won an international contest (even if in this year it is definetly an example of pinkwashing and the EBU trying to divert attention away from all the horrors happening both behind the scenes in the contest and in the world at large) and imo it's overall a well deserved win. HOWEVER, Croatia winning would have been such a momentous occasion, the first win for the country with a song as polished and exciting as Rim Tim Tagi Dim would have just been fantastic. The journey Baby Lasagna went on is so inspiring and he should be so proud of himself. If these songs weren't competeing in the same year I think they would have won their respective contests, they both deserved to win for different reasons but I have to say, if it was up to me Croatia would have taken home the trophy. I tell a lie, if it was really up to me we would have crowned the witch. Ireland brought something completely new and it was delicious. I adore this genre of music outwith Eurovision and to see it in the contest, I was in love from the moment it won Eurosong. I firmly believe this is the best performance we've seen in the contest for a good many years, maybe even of all time. It's a beautiful celebration of Celtic culture and it is a huge achievement for Ireland. They took a risk and it really payed off. Bambie Thug may be a once in a lifetime act, the song is phenomenal especially on a technical level - screaming the way Bambie does is incredibly hard to do safely such that you don't damage your vocal chords and they do it effortlessly. People will shun this because they don't understand it, but this is truly a masterpiece and Ireland really deserves their flowers for sending Bambie and allowing them to tell their story the way they wanted it told. 10/10, Doomsday Blue is perfection. (also do yourself a favour and listen to the intimate verion Bambie put out, if the song didn't click for you before it will now)

    Can't undo my view of this video so I might as well comment. Having opinions on things of which you lack basic knowledge is an idea that will inevitably lead you to sound ridiculous, which you very well achieved more than once. Now taste is another matter. If you said "I dislike Norway's song and the performance, the singing style was jarring to my ears and I found the performance boring" would have been a valid expression of your taste, and there is nothing anyone can or should say to that unless they want to go for a simple insult by saying that you have no taste. But saying "the singer can't sing, and to save the song she just screams" shows you have zero understanding of that folk vocal technique shared by quite a few rather different folk traditions (Scandinavian, Balkan...), and is very demanding and requires lots of training. Now, you're still perfectly entitled not to like the sound of it, and I appreciate that, but I cannot appreciate someone opining on a difficult vocal technique they dislike, saying the singer can't sing and just screams, while they actually have no understanding that that actually IS a vocal technique, and a difficult one. To prove you were talking out of your backside here, I'll mention how fantastically objective you were to appreciate Bambie's vocal technique - you obviously do have knowledge about harsh/heavy/screamo vocals and understand how difficult they are to get right. So when you have knowledge, you understand things, but when you lack knowledge, you are just embarrassing yourself. Again, not talking about taste, but your claims something you know nothing about is lacking quality just because you're lacking knowledge to understand better.

    I agree with you in a lot of things ... and yes what a better way to discract people to change the conversation of "Israel should be banned from Eurovision" to the first non-binary person wins Eurovision... the real winner was Croatia. He improved his vocals so much and gave an amazing show. Nemo only had good vocals. Nemo's outfit was awful, their staging and camera angles basic nothing in particular good. And I say this as a member of the LGBT+ community I'm tired of these "songs" etc, about coming out of the closet. It's 2024! We have never been more accepted than ever except for some countries like mine. Come on Eurovision has been gay friendly so much that a trans woman won in 98 and from that particular country...(ironically) Croatia was a silly lyrics but had more depth that a lot of people could relate to. This coming from a Mexican who we also facfe the same problems. Also I bet on my right hands people from THAT country have investments in Switzerland their banks even take money from Mexican cartels so I can predict that they would have Switzerland on a leash and won't banned that pseudo.country

    1:50 correction: the reason for why Russia was kicked out was because almost all of the delegations participating in the contest threatened to pull out if Russia was allowed to participate. With no choice, EBU kicked Russia out. In Israels case, the only nations (at least what I heard) were Ireland, Iceland and Spain who wanted Israel kicked out. Dane here. Here’s my points throughout the finale and lastly some notes from the semifinals: 12 points go to Croatia 🇭🇷: Yes yes yes! Baby Lasagna basically had the whole crowd singing with him. This was a perfect song for Eurovision, and sadly it was overshadowed by the Jury favoring Switzerland. There’s a comment under I think Eurovision’s channel on the Grnad Finale version of “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” where someone said that the jury had to give 37 12 points to Switzerland/other countries than Croatia in order for Baby Lasgna not winning. 10 points go to Italy 🇮🇹: I swear this song has been stuck in my head ever since Eurovision ended. I was also pleasantly happy that Italy FINALLY did not send a man because to me, Italy’a latest entries has been too similar sounding. “La Noia” is a banger and I was shocked Italy didn’t get a single 12 points this year. 8 points go to Ireland 🇮🇪: I actually wasn’t very interested in Doomsday Blue, UNTIL then finale. It might be because I had some trouble hearing Bambie Thug in the semi, but in the finale everything CLICKED! Also amazing to finally see Ireland thriving (again) in Eurovision. Lastly, great background presentation. It was the prettiest of the night I would say. 7 points go to France 🇫🇷: I might compare this song a little to much to Barbara Pravi’s Voila from 2021, which is why it’s here. No doubt Slimane can sing with or without a mic, the staging lacked a bit and it didn’t help that both the stage and Slimane was in white. The chorus had a nice hook. 6 points go to Georgia 🇬🇪: FINALLY Georgia made it to the finale. Wasn’t the biggest fan of “Firefighter” in the semi, but after the finale and throughout the finale. It really grew on me. Well done! 5 points go to Luxembourg 🇱🇺: 31 years later so of course Luxenbourg had to be in the finale… I liked the French part of the song and I almost wished that the whole song was sung in either French or English but preferably French. 4 points go to Ukraine 🇺🇦: This would’ve much higher if the rapping part of the song. Didn’t really get the Pride Rock Lion King set up on the stage, and I actually preferred the staging they had before Eurovision. The part with “Mama Theresa” goes hard for me though 3 points go to Switzerland 🇨🇭: This was actually in my number 2 spot for the second semi-final, but I really grew to not vibe with the song. The platform Nemo used in their staging was really the only interesting part. I liked the high notes but didn’t care much for the rapping part. 2 points go to Austria 🇦🇹: Kinda iconic that Kaleen with a song “We will rave” had never been to a rave herself. I love the studio version, but the live performance was a bit meh. It’s still on my Eurovision playlist again, due to the studio version. I don’t remember much about the live performance, which is a shame. 1 point go to Finland 🇫🇮: Finland was clearly going for comedy and to me, it worked. Also might’ve used this song as a “middle finger” to the EBU for Käärijä not winning last year even though the whole audience was screaming “Cha cha cha”. The staging was very WTF and the denim egg was weird but a fun gag throughout the song was the use of the cameramen to hide his (you know). Honorable mention for the finale songs is Spain 🇪🇸: I felt quite happy when the whole arena was screaming Zorra, Zorra Zorra! The vocals needed a little help though. Notes: First off, Malta 🇲🇹: Excuse me!? How did this not only not qualify but it was ranked LAST PLACE in the second semi-finale!? Unbelievable! Sarah deserved to be in that finale. She danced, performed and sang her ass off in the semi. Second, I’m so proud that we (Denmark 🇩🇰 ) finally had a Eurovision song to Eurovision! Even though Saba didn’t qualify, this was still the best song of our now 4 years in a row of non-qualifications. Lastly, and I might get crucified for this one: But Greece 🇬🇷… really!? The stage looked like being on LSD, the skirt was awful and the singing (to me) was terrible. I was so shocked when it qualified for the finale.

    ''Israel Behvioer''? Israel acted in the eurovision more mature than anybody in this contest and I can give you a copule of exmplems: 1. When Eden asked by the Polish journalist if ''she is risking everyone here by competing'' She answer a well tought response by saying that the EBU is doing everything to be feel safe in this contest 2. When Eden tallked in the press conference The Neterlands and Greece singers acted like a child, Neterlands by cover him with his flag while Eden is tallking , and Greece she done acts of sleeping and yawning while Eden was tallking and showed a very childish persona of 37 years old woman. 3. The Neterlands incident has nothing to do with Israel and Israel did nothing to harass any other competteros 4. Irlenad Bambie (And I must say her name is so Ironic) acted like a bully and vitcm by the same time , she cried when Israel quallifed to the final and bullied the enitre EBU and says it was so hard for her. 5. Eden tallked about it while she is doing camping in Israel to beauty products , she was approaching to Nemo the winner to congrats him for win the Eurovision 2024 and she got no response form him, and again Israel acted very mature in this Eurovision and Eden was haapy to spread love to all Europe the Contest I hope you will read this.

      I read it. Ireland doesn't want to share a stage with a apartheid regime that's murdered tens of thousands of children. Maybe Czech Republic & Hungary do but it's a definite minority. Bambi just said it out loud. Besides seeing as the majority of people were boycotting it, all the lads in the country that hate Muslims gave you a decent amount of points. You should be grateful for the nice memories before your officially condemned as war criminals and committers of genocide. Hopefully by next year. Enjoy 👍

    I personally agree with Nemo's win. I think that they had one of the most technically impressive live vocals of the night, and that The Code was fun, catchy song, with a good message, without needing the live performance aspect. That said, the live performance aspect was still impeccable. I also disagree with your comment of Nemo's rapping sounding like Iggy Azalea, I personally can't hear the similarity. I enjoyed Baby Lasagne, they were in my top 10, and I always enjoy a good rock song at Eurovision, but I wasn't as obsessed as everyone else, I think it was just the lyrics being so simple. I agreed with the results of semi-final one, but for semi final 2, would have had Belgium, Malta and San Marino qualify over Austria, Estonia and Latvia, and Israel should have jus been disqualified. I get what you're saying about the performers that sing standing still, but I do think that sometimes the song demands that kind of performance, and so shouldn't be considered a negative. That's jus my take though.

    The reasons why israel is competing are actually pretty simple: 1) Israel didnt break any EBU rules (at least not before the contest, but then again according to EBU offcial statement there were some countries breaking rules, not just 1 or 2). 2) Russia invaded Georgia in 2009 ... but participated Russia invaded crimea in 2014... but participated Azerbaijan is in an on going conflict with armenia... but participated and most people didnt even care. So not letting israel participate would be actual double standards. 3) People's personal politcal opinions are irrelevant. Realistically speaking 50% stands with israel, 50% doesnt, so why would EBU bow to 50% without rational arguments? And the reason why Russia was banned wasnt actually really about ukraine per se. Russia was banned from ebu, not esc (esc is just an aspect of ebu). Apparently this happened because russia wasnt fulfilling their obligations to ebu. So no, no crazy conspiracy theories or double standards. People just have a hard dealing with simple these days.

    Everyone saying “Doomsday Blue” is satanic was especially heartbreaking because it wasn’t Satanism; it was Irish paganism. The ogham writing, the candle circle, the black feathered outfit representing the Irish war goddess Morrígan, are all signifiers of Celtic mythology; a mythology which was almost entirely erased through colonisation. Bambi’s performance wasn’t just an incredible performance, but a celebration of their Irish cultural heritage.

    • @JustYetAnotherUser
      @JustYetAnotherUser Před 9 dny

      Ok, I see a lot of people upset over this satanism accusation. Here's the deal: both opinions (that is satanism and it's not) are actually valid. Historically yes, paganism and celtic culture was already there before christianity took over. However, it doesnt take a long study session to find out a lot of the elements in pagan/celtic culture are indeed classified as satanic in christianity. So dont be heartbroken... it really comes down to personal belief and there's room for both as long as one lets the other be.

    • @Ampasss
      @Ampasss Před 8 dny

      paganism and celtic culture can be transmitted without it being put through a satanic christian lens which actually I kind of this she put on the culture. paganism isn't pentagrams and dark evil looking costumes that's what the early christians demonised it into. she's part of the problem

Local language, weird performance but funny life performance including using visuals, personal story (an ophran traveling through europe and him having lost both parents at young age), Eurodance but still ending up with local music (Gabber which grew big in the netherlands in the 90s). #Joostice for Joost

    To be honest, I came across this video by accident. Yes, a lot of time has passed, but I want to leave a few words. The video is great, I'm glad someone took apart this film. But I would like to point out some subjective moments. Of course Brenda is strong, she does damn swimming, it strengthens her muscles and makes them stronger. I personally didn’t even notice the similarity between the characters of Scream and UL initially. And even so, it always seemed to me that Brenda was more like Stu, in her madness. And for me personally, Natalie is more interesting than many ideal final girls. She did something terrible, but she tries to deal with it, and in the end she becomes stronger and admits her mistake. She lets it go, unlike Brenda. I would also like to note the excellent music, murders, atmosphere, location, incredible idea, and great acting. This movie definitely has a permanent place in my heart. Like Rebecca's acting, I love Brenda. And in the end I consider this film one of the best slasher films.
